Sen. Barack Obama leads Sen. John McCain in CNN's latest Electoral College estimates.
1 of 2 George W. Bush won Montana by 20 points in his re-election victory four years ago. But it seems times have changed in the state.
CNN's new Electoral College map, updated Sunday morning, moves Montana from "leaning John McCain" to "tossup."
The move is partially based on the new CNN poll of polls in Montana, compiled Friday, which suggests that McCain has a 1-point lead over his Democratic rival, Barack Obama, 46 percent to 45 percent. Nine percent of voters are undecided.
"The fact that Montana is up for grabs has to be extremely unsettling for the McCain campaign," said CNN Senior Political Researcher Alan Silverleib.
"Montana's usually a reliably Republican state in presidential campaigns. It's been won by the Democrats only twice in the past half century. If you're a Republican and you're fighting for Montana in the last few days of the campaign, you're not in good shape."
Three electoral votes are at stake in Montana, a state Obama visited in late August. McCain, the Republican nominee, has not campaigned in Montana during the general election.
With Montana moving to "tossup," CNN estimates that if the election were held today, Obama would win states with 291 electoral votes -- more than enough to capture the White House.
McCain would take states with 157 electoral votes, while states with a combined total of 90 electoral votes would still be up for grabs. A candidate needs 270 electoral votes to win.
CNN is also moving Iowa, and its 7 electoral votes, from "leaning Obama" to "safe Obama." The latest poll of polls in Iowa, compiled Sunday morning, suggests Obama now has a lead of 14 percentage points in the state, 53 to 39 percent.

If Montana ends up in play then we are in for a long and horrible night. Thankfully I don’t think it is in play. The whole election sure is though. A lot on here think it is locked up for McCain but it really is one that either side can win.
Next report from CNN/PMSNBC/InsertMSMNamehere will be:
“Texas is leaning 0bama....”
Nah, it’s all true. I know because there are some posters with 2000 signup dates who have shown up to tell us that it’s all over. We shouldn’t even bother to vote. We’re doomed. /s
I think Montana is just 3 electoral votes though, so hopefully it won’t even matter as far as election night tracking.
They were trying to say Arizona is in play yesterday, now it’s Montana?
okey dokey
MT may be in play, I doubt it, the MSM is simply spewing whatever they have been told by a poll, they never analyze them, only “According to..blah blah blah”
McCain has a good shot, that is as far as I’ll go.
Commie News Network would report Alabama in play if they could get their fool-aid drinking audience to believe it.
Newflash....ALL McCain states are in play!!!
Obama poised to win EVERYTHING!!!!
(sarc)
Fox said yesterday that Georgia and Arizona are in play-toss up now...and CNN says PA is put away for Hussein, Montana is toss up, N.C. is toss up, and they had the audacity to question whether Idaho will go red.
According to RCP, North Dakota is +2 Obama
*roll eyes*
Obama takes Alabama
I’m beginning to get suspicious. Has the country changed so much in four years? I don’t know if they are trying to generate momentum that doesn’t actually exist, or demoralize Republicans, or what, but.... I just have a hard time believing in this landslide the media is doing its best to arrange.
You hit it on the head.
It may very well be that cnn knows about all the fraud and therefore KNOWS who will win where.
Any country that didn’t elect Kerry will not elect 0bama.
Someone want to ask CNN why is it Obama was in Iowa and PA last week?
Don't fall for the Chicago style, long con.
“...they are trying to generate momentum that doesnt actually exist, or demoralize Republicans, or what...”
All of that. And, its being done right here on FR by infiltrating Obama surrogates that will disappear November 5th. They don’t always post the bad news stories, but, they’re always here to give their subtle woe is us take on things.
CNN is drunk and high on their kool aid. They are despicable.
CNN is drunk and high on their kool aid. They are despicable.
Unless Kerry wasn't liberal enough... :0)
That line of reasoning is faulty and ignores fundamental changes that have altered the political landscape in 4 years - a hugely unpopular Bush (fav. rating half of what it was in 2004), unprecedented stock market collapse in 3 weeks, massive pro-Obama MSM bias, massive money advantage for Obama, enthusiastic Dem electorate, and signs of a recession. It would be a miracle if this did not have an effect.
Just say no to drugs.
I managed to stomach an hour of their "election center" last night. I was treated to stories about the upcoming "soul searching" in the republican party when McCain loses on Tuesday. What Obama's cabinet is going to look like. What Obama's victory is going to mean. Where the McCain campaign went wrong. Will Obama win in a landslide or merely a blowout?
And no, I'm not exaggerating, these were actually the topics of discussion during the period I watched...
Montana is in play as much as is Rhode Island. Watching CNN when McCain wins should be quite enjoyable.
I’ll believe CNN’s polling information when ObamaRama admits he’s a Socialist.
Of course, you could be right. Maybe. Possibly. ;') Vote anyway.

Bingo. In order for bambi to win a LOT of people who voted for Bush will have to vote for bambi. LOL! That isn't going to happen and there is much evidence the opposite will happen....i.e. a LOT of people who voted for Kerry will be voting for McCain. Bambi is toast.
“Nah, its all true. I know because there are some posters with 2000 signup dates who have shown up to tell us that its all over. We shouldnt even bother to vote. Were doomed. /s”
Truth dat!
LLS
goldstategop: “I can’t wait til Tuesday to see they’re full of it!”
Amen to that!
Some of the MSM reporters were nearly in tears over the Kerry and Gore losses. Can you imagine their reaction if Obama goes down? It will truly be a wondrous sight to behold.
A McCain win, for me, will be satisfying, for I will know Americans still have some measure of common sense and a belief in the ideals that made this country great.
Let me tell you, goldstategop, it boggles my mind every time I think the Democrats actually nominated such a far left radical as Obama. We will, hopefully, save the Democrats from themselves this Tuesday.
Next, came the phony polls about the phony candidate.
Then, came the phony "news" stories about the phony polls about the phony candidate.
Now, we have the phony predictions...

I didn’t think it was possible for Obama to win all 57 states, but now that CNN has everything in play, anything is posisble.
The Real Clear Politics map makes me laugh hysterically, too. Such BS.
John King said the McCain campaign can’t envision a scenario where McCain wins without PA
That’s all I needed to hear
They use liberal plants as UNREGISTERED VOTERS for their interactive debates
CNN is toast.
If it is close, we may be left hanging on election night as key states depend on provisional ballots...i.e., phony votes that even the local officials had to set aside as questionable.
One slight problem, CNN: we don't believe your bullshit any more, nor do the American people.
CNN: Obama 80%, McCain 10%!!!Poll consisted on 850 CNN employers who are likely to vote. CNN management is looking for those 10% McCain voters who will be immediately terminated due to 'budget issues'.
Additionally, 10% of those polled were listed as undecided as CNN found they didn't speak English and understand the questions. However CNN Pollsters believed they lean Obama.
Got news for Y’all. New York is in play.
We need a few anti-satellite missiles to shoot down CNN and MSNBC.
