CNN Kool-Aid Hysteria of the Day: Even reliably red Montana in play as Election Day looms
CNN ^ | 11-2-2008

Sen. Barack Obama leads Sen. John McCain in CNN's latest Electoral College estimates.

1 of 2 George W. Bush won Montana by 20 points in his re-election victory four years ago. But it seems times have changed in the state.

CNN's new Electoral College map, updated Sunday morning, moves Montana from "leaning John McCain" to "tossup."

The move is partially based on the new CNN poll of polls in Montana, compiled Friday, which suggests that McCain has a 1-point lead over his Democratic rival, Barack Obama, 46 percent to 45 percent. Nine percent of voters are undecided.

"The fact that Montana is up for grabs has to be extremely unsettling for the McCain campaign," said CNN Senior Political Researcher Alan Silverleib.

"Montana's usually a reliably Republican state in presidential campaigns. It's been won by the Democrats only twice in the past half century. If you're a Republican and you're fighting for Montana in the last few days of the campaign, you're not in good shape."

Three electoral votes are at stake in Montana, a state Obama visited in late August. McCain, the Republican nominee, has not campaigned in Montana during the general election.

With Montana moving to "tossup," CNN estimates that if the election were held today, Obama would win states with 291 electoral votes -- more than enough to capture the White House.

McCain would take states with 157 electoral votes, while states with a combined total of 90 electoral votes would still be up for grabs. A candidate needs 270 electoral votes to win.

CNN is also moving Iowa, and its 7 electoral votes, from "leaning Obama" to "safe Obama." The latest poll of polls in Iowa, compiled Sunday morning, suggests Obama now has a lead of 14 percentage points in the state, 53 to 39 percent.

If Montana ends up in play then we are in for a long and horrible night. Thankfully I don’t think it is in play. The whole election sure is though. A lot on here think it is locked up for McCain but it really is one that either side can win.

Nah, it’s all true. I know because there are some posters with 2000 signup dates who have shown up to tell us that it’s all over. We shouldn’t even bother to vote. We’re doomed. /s

I think Montana is just 3 electoral votes though, so hopefully it won’t even matter as far as election night tracking.

MT may be in play, I doubt it, the MSM is simply spewing whatever they have been told by a poll, they never analyze them, only “According to..blah blah blah”

McCain has a good shot, that is as far as I’ll go.

Commie News Network would report Alabama in play if they could get their fool-aid drinking audience to believe it.

Fox said yesterday that Georgia and Arizona are in play-toss up now...and CNN says PA is put away for Hussein, Montana is toss up, N.C. is toss up, and they had the audacity to question whether Idaho will go red.

I’m beginning to get suspicious. Has the country changed so much in four years? I don’t know if they are trying to generate momentum that doesn’t actually exist, or demoralize Republicans, or what, but.... I just have a hard time believing in this landslide the media is doing its best to arrange.

It may very well be that cnn knows about all the fraud and therefore KNOWS who will win where.

Obama poised to win EVERYTHING!!!!

That is the (wet) dream they are living out at CNN and other liberal bastions right now, despite mounting evidence to the contrary. They want an Obama 50-state sweep, to validate their faith in extreme liberalism, and they truly believe if that happens then life from January 20th on will be nothing but sunshine, jellybeans and unicorns (cue that obnoxious Coke song).

Personally, it is only over the past week that I've grown cautiously optimistic. Momentum is moving toward McCain, and, as loathe as I am to admit it, Dick Morris is right: This election is now a referendum on Obama. And any person in possession of common sense and discernment will have a problem voting for him.

It would be intoxicating, though, to watch CNN and PMSDNC should McCain pull out a win, given that they have already accepted Obama as the winner, wouldn't it? Schadenfreude overload!

Twist, distort, humiliate, and finally dispirit.

Don't fall for the Chicago style, long con.

“...they are trying to generate momentum that doesn’t actually exist, or demoralize Republicans, or what...”

All of that. And, its being done right here on FR by infiltrating Obama surrogates that will disappear November 5th. They don’t always post the bad news stories, but, they’re always here to give their subtle woe is us take on things.
