COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- The coal industry fired back at Barrack Obama Monday by calling his alleged remarks about coal being squeezed out of the U.S. energy mix misguided and cynical.
Mike Carey, president of the Ohio Coal Association, said in a written statement that Obama has been hiding his real agenda while "pandering" for vote in battleground states such as Ohio and Pennsylvania that also happen to be major coal producers.
"Senator Obama has revealed himself to be nothing more than a short-sighted, inexperienced politician willing to say anything to get a vote," Carey declared.
Carey said coal remained an important low-cost source of energy and a "key to our nation's long-term energy security."
The industry along with Republican candidate John McCain have been expressing umbrage over a January newspaper interview in which Obama reportedly said his plans for a cap-and-trade program to control emissions from power plants would push coal powered plants, and presumably the coal industry itself, into bankruptcy.
FoxNews said GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin was in coal country Monday and told an Ohio audience that a McCain administration would keep so-called clean coal as an important ingredient in the energy market.

0bama and his minions in the lamestream are accusing Gov. Palin of distorting, misinterpreting the interview with the SFChron -- any comment from them about these folks in the actual industry he asserts he plans to bankrupt?
In the case of early voting, I would agree, but the timing is such that Obama has very little spin time and perhaps not the will to waste what time he has left on a subject he tries to say as little about as he can.
It would be interesting to hear if miners who voted early are having regrets.
no, then it would be old news by now, and obama would have had a month to decide how to spin it. This is the problem with early voting. It comes too late for some of the early voters, but just about right for the election (maybe 1-2 days earlier would have been a little better so it could gain a little more traction.)

Wonder how many UMW workers went and voted early for Obama on the urging of their union bosses and are now spitting mad.
We have a lot of coal interests here in Montana, yet the largest newspaper in the state (The Billings Gazette) openly endorses Obama has absolutely nothing in yesterday or today’s edition about this.
It’s about EVERYONE...not just the coal industry. We’ll all pay higher prices if he gets what he wants.

That being said, I have many relatives still there and they are all democrats voting McCain. Which is unbelievable because they are rabid Democrats. Union people and have always been democrat

The big question is with the huge amounts of money the campaign has been sent, why the heck didn't they find this sooner?
The info was out in January. In my opinion the political consultants screwed up really big with this. They tried to say the San Francisco Chronicle didn't release this, when the realty ii, it was on their website the whole time. A simple web search found it.
