I talked to one of my McCain guys a little while ago. He didn't have any data, but he said, "based just on the anecdotal evidence, we feel good about who is showing up to vote and in what numbers."
Yup, strictly on anexdotal evidence, it seems like the Republican base is turning out. That doesn't mean McCain is going to win, or even that it will be close. But if the Democrats turn out (a safe bet) and the split among independents is reasonably close, it would be tough for it to be a blowout. But then again, maybe the independents will break more heavily for Obama.
I imagine my McCain guy is hearing stories like this one:
I was a Republican poll watcher in West Chester, PA this morning from 7 a.m. to noon. There were over 600 votes cast in the first ward during those hours. Over a 13 hour election period that will come out to 100 percent turnout when absentee ballots are counted. This ward is affluent lawyers and college professors. I was only supplied with a list of likely McCain voters to strike off as they voted and the list was filling up impressively. I voted this afternoon in West Bradford township and the lines were far, far bigger than anything I've ever seen before. I was voter 555 in my staunchly Republican township. I don't know what to think, but I'm still trending optimistic for Team Good Guys.
Also, a guy close to the Virginia Republican Party told me earlier today that the get-out-the-vote efforts were "hitting their targets" in all of the key parts of the state.
I mention these because my McCain guy specifically said he had heard good anecdotal evidence from Virginia and Pennsylvania...
I choked back my bile and voted for him. I was the only voter in the place this afternoon but there are only about 4000 voters in this township and ours is the smaller precinct. The poll workes said that they were really busy in the morning and would get busy again after 3. I voted around 2 this afternoon.
I travel a lot these days and if bumper stickers mean anything, McCain/Palin are well out front.
The key is how many Republicans get out and vote. So far it looks good for McCain. Appears to be a high turnout in the Republican areas.
That was what I did also, complete with bile.
Most agree the MSM, aided by cross-voting, selected our candidate. We had a choice between bad and demonstrably worse.
They are fighting a long war and we can expect to face a nerve wracking close call every election cycle. But most of the socialist politicians are out of the closet now.
Even if McCain wins, we adults who have not been active have got to dedicate a portion of our lives and become involved with local politics.
More encouraged by the turnout information that’s been coming out.
It sounds to me that the Braveheart call has been heard. And the highlanders are pouring in from the hills.
Know it’s early but all this is encouraging.
Haven't been too good. My wife saw her Thoracic Surgeon today and he gave her the bad news she has a small cancerous nodule in her right lung and he will be operating on her this coming Monday to remove it. The PET scan didn't show any spreading to other parts of her body so that is Good news. He will be removing one of her lobes to make sure he gets all the cancer. No chemo or radiation if he does that. To top it off, I've come down with the shingles. Probably from stress over the past month of her taking CT, PET and biopsy test.
We voted absentee 3 weeks ago (straight Republican) knowing that this situation might happen and am glad we did. I am praying for my wife as well as the outcome of the election for McCain.
Please pray for my wife of 41 blissful married years to me. She has endured so many illnesses in the last 11 years and now she is facing the Big one.
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.
I will pray for both of you, as I’m sure many fellow FReepers will, as well. God grant you healing and solace.
Lord Jesus, we pray for the beloved wife of your child who has stood against evil, Evil Slayer. We pray first that you give us forgiveness of our sin, for we want nothing to come between you and us that would cause us to be running away from you. For it is in your presence that we acknowledge again Your eternal power and Your eternal love. We place this wife in Your hands and trust any decision you make or any kind of healing you might have for her. If doctors or medicine or victorious spirit or miracle or even calling her home, we acknowledge as believers in You that all are healings for those who seek eternity with You. It is with great confidence that we place a beloved wife in Your care, Lord. And in Your wisdom, please grant courage and grace to her, her husband, her family, and her friends. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
So very sorry Slayer - let her know FReeper prayers are with you both.
Prayers up, FRiend.
