He's President for the next four years. He has the opportunity to become a great president if he pursues the ideals he just expressed in his acceptance speech. Perhaps what's past is not prologue. Perhaps he pursued the path he did, through Occidental and Columbia and Harvard and Chicago and community organizing and Rev. Wright's church and the Democrat Party and the Democrat Primary, as a political path to the opportunity to strengthen this great country according to our unique constitution. Perhaps he is the Manchurian candidate for what's good about America, who had to "tunnel" through the Democratic Party in order to lead us all to the promised land. Perhaps he will be able to stand up to the Democratic Congress more strongly than our Republican leaders have done.

Although there's little evidence supporting that, beyond tonight's speech, I'll give him a hundred days. He surprised us by winning. Perhaps he'll surprise us by doing the right thing. He'll have at least 50% of the country behind him no matter what he does, so he might as well do what's right.

I "hope".

Who else here agrees?

Even though I didn't vote for him, I have to say for the next 4 years he is my President. I'm not happy about it, but in 2012, with a reborn Republican Party - one that is for all Americans -- including Log Cabin Republicans -- fighting for the White House.

We need a small Government FISCAL CONSERVATIVE... for 2012 Sarah Palin/Adam Putnam!

"...I will give the office the respect it deserves and to the person who holds it.."

With that logic, if Hitler Jr. just won the election (and he just might have), he would be worthy of respect in your eyes.

I could never succumb to such unwarranted and undeserved blind, deaf and outright dumb faith and servility as that.

I never stated that I disrespect the office, but since I can not respect the un-American who the office of the president will be a reflection of, I will no longer be able to respect it as well until one day it is cleansed of the Marxist filth that will be staining it.

Are you out of your ever-lovin’ MIND?!? There was more cheating in this election than ever in the past by dem-sponsored group, e.g., ACORN. “Fair and square” doesn’t include bringing in Black Panther thugs to intimidate voters, refust to count our soldiers’ ballots, throw out GOP precinct workers, depend on the media to say and do evil things, etc., etc., etc. It wasn’t fair and it wasn’t square. Sheesh!

The only saving factor is that the Dems and the MSM won't be able to blame Republicans for ANYTHING anymore.

Wanna bet? They'll find a way to blame every bad thing that happens on Bush. The libs here in California still blame all of the state's financial ills on Prop. 13, which was passed 30 freakin' years ago.

We survived Jimmy Carter and we will survive this. Barak Obama won the election and the Governor of Hawaii confirmed his BC is legit as I understand it. He may have just always used the far left as his only ladder? Maybe he is in the center now that he’s there. The reality is one of your duties as a citizen is to respect and honor the office as well as the choice of the nation. If he is the disaster you predict it will be over in 4 years (unless it takes less to retake congress.) Today he is the President Elect and this is a milestone in history. You might call this wishful thinking, I call it my duty as a citizen. His name will set a record for additions to spell check dictionaries too.

The ‘D’ in BDS stands for derangement. Have you seen some of these people? You cannot mention the name Bush without their faces contorting and them screeching nonsense.

I want no part of that.

George W. Bush screwed us over because he never defended himself. He never articulated the ‘Big Picture’, nor what conservatism is (this I believe because he lacked any understanding of it himself).

You don’t have to play possum like Bush and you don’t have to play dirty. There’s a nice middle road that President Reagan taught us, we just have to find someone who can find it.

Never go dirty. We’re better than that, and we can win without being dirty.

I promise you, it's gonna be an ugly conversation no matter when I have it with my family.

Obama is a communist who supports racists and terrorists, and my mother and sister voted for him.

I may eat Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's dinners with friends and other assorted family members.

This way, I can steer clear of having the four-letter word conversations with my immediate family.

Agree 100%. We should not lower ourselves to the standard that the left has set for the last 8 years. As conservatives, I would hope that most would want what is best for the country. It is time to act like the adults and stand behind our new president. Feel free to disagree and challenge decisions, but to diliberatly try to invoke a division in this country is counter productive and childish. I hope he does what he say he will. Our country united again is greater than “us winning”.

Mr. Obama, you will never be my president. You cheated your way dishonorably into office with your Bill Ayers ACORN machine.

You befriend terrorists who have plans to put tens of millions of us to death, if you can maneuver enough power.

You have declared our constitution fundamentally flawed.

You come from a church of hate and racism. You sir, are a racist for having sat in that seat for 20 years with dishonor.

You have not come clean on a whole host of issues.

You will never be my president. But you will always be the first Communist installed in office in the history of the Republic.

Jimmy Carter never declared the constitution fundamentally flawed.

Obama’s declaration that the constitution is fundamentally flawed puts us in a constitutional crisis.

Defending Obama is the same as voting for him.

Have fun with that.

Didn’t Clinton go to the USSR and get high during the Vietnam war? I think its safe to say someone there said allot worse than “God Damn America.” Its not if he is white or black, its the liberal thing that earns the pass. When the MSM doesn’t scrutinize its over. Lets take a lesson that works from the liberals and start contacting advertisers on the MSM and boycott products and channels. The only way back seems to start there.

"As conservatives, I would hope that most would want what is best for the country. It is time to act like the adults and stand behind our new president."

Only a confused moderate wishing to confuse others would stand behind a Marxist and still say that he's a conservative.

"Feel free to disagree and challenge decisions, but to diliberatly try to invoke a division in this country is counter productive and childish."

Perhaps it passed you by, but there has been a growing division in this country for a long, long time.  And it gets bigger by the day.  The cause of the rift feeds and grows on passivity and passivity is what is truly counterproductive,

The time for passivity is over, or we are over.

" I hope he does what he say he will. Our country united again is greater than “us winning”."

A misguided country unified under socialism?

The low rumble that you hear is the sound of this country's forefathers spinning in their graves.

This is the type of post that we all laugh at when seen on DU. Exchange the acronyms and buzzwords for liberal ones, then the tinfoil hat and moonbat posts follow quickly.

Try to rise above it folks. They won. We can either pout in the corner or try to help the country get back on it’s feet again. Our country is not doing well at the moment, and I do think the blame rests on the democrats shoulders. The president is a figurehead, and in times of emergency, our commander and chief. Obama claims to represent everyone, which is what a president should be. If he calls out the congress for their sad preformance, then he will have my complete support. Until then, I will not try to undermine a different approach to our ills.
