If a forty-ish single male were to move to Texas, where might be a location that is very red, great golf courses and a high female population?

I am a born and raised Texan and do tend to agree that we very may well be wise to secede while we still can. We are one of the few states that support and allow oil and gas exploration, we have a large petrochemical industrial base and we also have many acres of farm production. We could see our standard of living greatly diminished if the enviromentalist (global warming alarmists) penalize the very industries that make Texas prosperous.

The suburbs of Dallas tend to be strongly red, (Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Southlake, Plano) and there’s a plethora of golf courses in the area. I don’t know the m-f ratio, but I do know there’s plenty of places to look for them: one of the highest restaurants/clubs per capita in the country; gigantic churches; lots and lots of cultural activities, etc.

C’mon down...I hear they’re building the GWB Presidential library at SMU. :-D

I like how Texans keep inviting us to come, some other state FReepeers keep telling us to stay away, like we’re going to start voting for Democrats since we’re from NJ, etc. LOL

A transplanted Texan taught me how to become a scratch golfer. I’ve never met a Texan who didn’t want to go back, must really be great there.

You see, it’s all part of my ‘evil’ plot to start the secession ball rolling here in Texas, and add other states until we leave the liberal socialists to devour each other and leave us out of it.

No, the way I see it is our corporate tax policies will be so desirable that businesses will flock to the new United Red States of America and won’t be able to flee Obamanation fast enough. Schools will be locally run by communities, reflecting their own values and principles, not those of a massive, socialist, humanist bureaucratic agenda. I would welcome any contiguous state to join in, but I’m afraid we might have some who would have to sell their property in the Obamanation for pennies on the dollar just to get out. But not to worry, housing has been stable in the Texas market thus far, and you can afford far more house for your dollar here than you probably can in NJ. Plus, did I mention we have no state income tax? And no tax on groceries?

I grew up in Oklahoma, own a lake house up there, but still think Texas is the best place to live, and would make a damn fine country.

I’ve been looking on realtor.com in Collin County, what other counties are around there? How far is Dallas? The golf courses look SPECTACULAR, how hot is it in the summer?

Collin County is just north of Dallas County. Thousands upon thousands live in Collin County and work in Dallas County. McKinney is the farthest north, and is about a 45 minute commute to downtown in traffic. Allen would be about 35 minutes. Plano about 30 minutes. Frisco is a little more northwest of downtown, so would be a little farther. But we have some excellent new tollways that aren’t overly crowded yet, even during rush hour. Visiting the DFW metroplex will overwhelm you—it literally takes probably 2 hours to drive from the farthest eastward suburban expansion of Dallas to the farthest westward suburban expansion of Ft. Worth. DFW metroplex is freakin’ huge! Some people do actually live in Ft. Worth and work in Dallas and vice versa, but they weren’t very happy about it when gas prices got so high. There are just so many great places to choose to live here-—urban loft apartments downtown; hip condos in Uptown; amazing older historic homes around Swiss Avenue and in Highland Park (bring your checkbook...very expensive!); great affordable homes in clean suburbs with great schools; country farms and acreages in the outlying areas, still close enough to commute but large enough for horses; and some beautiful lakefront property also within commuting distance.

Okay, so now the heat question—everyone asks. I personally despise cold weather, snow, etc. I find it inconvenient and a hassle to shovel my way out of my house only to freeze and get my feet soaked with icy cold snow/water. Lovely to look at, but if I have to live with it, forget it. So, we have a few months of pretty blistering heat most summers. Count on at least two months of 90-99 degree temps and we’ll get maybe 30 days of over 100. So all in all, you’re looking at maybe 3 months of what I like to call “Texas winter.” These are days when it’s pretty uncomfortable to sit or work outside, but you don’t have to shovel anything to get to your car, and everyplace is air conditioned here, so it’s really more of a monetary inconvenience because our electric bills get really high to stay comfortable. But when everyone else is buried in 6 feet of snow, we are often running around in shorts and short sleeves.

Probably more info than you wanted, but I do love it here.

Not more than I need, I’d be interested to hear from other Texans. I would like to live in a house with a yard for my dog, not so close to my neighbor that they could hear me watching blu-ray movies in surround sound, with an absolute minimum of Obama voters. What towns would you recommend?

An interesting link about Plano. Also, would probably be fairly accurate representation of Frisco, Allen, McKinney, Wylie, parts of Richardson, Soutlake and Hurst.

I’ve been looking and reading a lot at realtor.com, city-data.com (big message board) and learning a lot about all of the towns.

I’ve learned a lot about Plano (and the east/west wars!), Allen, Frisco, McKinney, Melissa, Anna, Van Alstyne, Prosper, Aubrey, Wylie, Sacshe, etc.

I think it would nice to have a home with a pool and some property for me and my dog and all the things you mentioned.

Which towns are you partial to? Thanks for responding.

Glad you asked. I used to be a Realtor and live in Plano. All of those are nice towns with decent schools. The further out you go, the more you get for your money. Contrary to popular belief, lots are not huge here, so further out in the suburbs might be a good choice, depending on your commute. Schools are important for your resale, so don’t discount that factor, even if you don’t have kids. If you don’t know a Realtor here, I could give you a couple of names. If you aren’t familiar with an area, good Realtors are worth every penny.

Do you mean the America which had it's elected representatives vote for a stimulus package after admitting that they did not read it?

That adds up to “Taxation without Representation”. They can't represent us if they do not know what it is they are representing.

This, and many more reasons over the years have us to the point where this is being contemplated. We are Americans. Unfortunately, are Representatives are no longer upholding our constitution. They have not for years. All 3 branches.
