Vanity: Women elect Barack Obama
vanity | November 5, 2008 | me

Posted on 11/05/2008 1:49:48 PM PST by reaganaut1

According to the exit polls at http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/results/president/, Obama and McCain were almost tied in the men's vote, 49% to 48%, but women voted for Obama by 56% to 43%.

I have occasionally discussed politics with women and usually found it frustrating. They think in a very different manner than I do. I am trying to phrase this in a neutral manner.

Suggestions on how to reclaim womens' votes are welcome. Although some women vote Republican, I think their overall support for the Democratic candidate is worth discussing, since the 19th Amendment is not going to be repealed.

I was hoping Sarah Palin would have an impact. I guess she was not woman enough.

A senseless ignorant dig at a fantastic conservative woman.

McCain subtly muzzled her and did not know that the only way to win was to let her open up and for him to adopt most of her policies.

Heck, he wouldn't even come out for drilling in Alaska.

McCain lost this election, and his concession speech showed he was glad B. Hussein won.

The women rejected McCain.

Yeah, I think that people misunderestimate the importance of sexual virility in the modern era.

1992: Clinton 46yo, GHWB 68yo
Clinton cuter, more sexually virile than GHWB

1996: Clinton 50yo, Dole 73yo
Clinton cuter, more sexually virile than GHWB

2000: W 54yo, Gore 52yo
decide for yourself
[Gore sticking his tongue down Tipper's throat, at the DNC convention, probably did more to help him with single women than we realize]

2004: W 58yo, Kerry 61yo
I think it's fair to say that W was cuter and more sexually virile than Kerry

2008: Obama 47yo, McCain 72yo

Just off the top of my head, I'd guess that the sweet spot for single women in their male politicians is roughly the age of 45-55; when male politicians [at least at the presidential level] get somewhere around the age of 60, they start to be too old for single women.

Also, if anyone brings up the question of Reagan -versus- Carter:

1980: Reagan 69yo, Carter 56yo
Note three things:
1) Reagan was a former movie star, with movie star good looks, so he won the "cuter" vote hands down, and the Reagan publicity machine went to great lengths to promote his virility - remember Reagan challenging Carter to arm wrestling, or chopping wood on his ranch, or dying his hair black? - the Reagan publicists were fully aware of the power of perceived virility.

2) Reagan in 1980 was at only a -13 year disadvantage with Carter, whereas GHWB was at -22 years against Clinton in 1992, and McCain was at a whopping -25 years against Obama in 2008.

3) In 1980, the Boomers, and their corrosive influence on American society, hadn't fully come of age yet. The Boomers were born between 1946 and 1964, so they were between 16 and 34 years of age in 1980, and hadn't yet really started voting en masse. Instead, the bulk of the voters in 1980 would have been "greatest generation" types who had served in WWII [and in 1980, there might still have been just a smattering of WWI veterans still hanging on - they would have been only about 80 years old at that point].

“Sorry, ladies, the country started going down the crapper after females got the vote. You can have the vote back after we suspend the 19th for a generation. That will give men the opportunity to peaceably go through the various institutions via the ballot box and remove all the fascists, communists, nazis and socialists cemented into our society by liberal female morons.

If you have a different idea that doesn’t involve an all-out war against these leftists that are stealing freedom away from our children, let’s hear it.

Taking away the women’s vote for 30 years is the most logical and peaceful way to take back our country.”

Wasn’t there a ‘civil war” which killed three quarters of a million American men before women got the vote?
Obama got 41% of the white male vote. That combined with the overwhelming non-white male vote (95% black male and 64% Hispanic male) would have STILL put him in the Oval Office. Obama got 49% of the total male vote to McCain’s 48% with 3% split among the third party candidates.

In shorter words, issues are not the measure women use. Shallow women are killing this country.

Typo — you meant Dole I think. While we engaged in this productive discussion of the merits of female suffrage :), let me say that for Bob Dole to go on to become a Viagra salesman disgusts me. The taciturn Kansan acted like a whore.

I will warn everyone right now that this is going to be controversial, but here’s what I think should be done to get more women to vote conservative.

1. Stop generalizing so much. I’m a single woman (insert joke here about “I can see why!”) and I voted for McCain (actually it was more of a for-Palin and against-Obama vote). Judge everyone as individuals. Collectivism is for liberals.

2. Women are not natural socialists. Most of us work and pay taxes. Some of us own businesses. Recognize that if women are trending towards socialism, it is NOT a biological thing, it’s a societal thing. It’s not nature, it’s nurture. The effects of biological evolution take place over thousands and even millions of years. Marxism is only 150 years old. There’s nothing genetic or biological about it.

3. In 1992, Clinton got enough of the male vote that he would have become president even if only men were voting. The “women elected Clinton” line is a myth and needs to be recognized as such.

4. The GOP needs to become a small-government party again. It needs to focus on things like national security, lower taxes, gun rights, and school choice. These issues appeal to women. If Republicans are seen as a bunch of big-government nannies who are trying to enforce their brand of religious morality, women (and men) will be turned off. In short, we need more Ronald Reagans and Barry Goldwaters and fewer Mike Huckabees.

5. Point out that left-wing feminist organizations never stand up for truly oppressed women like those who are suffering under the Taliban or the Saudis. It was that right-wing institution, the military, under that right-wing President Bush, that liberated millions of Afghan women from the Taliban.

6. Point out that those left-wing feminists will stick a knife in the back of any woman they deem not ideologically pure enough. Tell undecided women, “If they can do it to Sarah Palin, they’ll do it to you.”

7. The GOP should point out its historic commitment to women’s equality. When Susan B. Anthony was arrested for illegally voting in 1872, she voted a straight Republican ticket. In 1878, California Republican Senator Aaron Sargent introduced a resolution that would give women the vote. It took those “progressive” Democrats until 1920 to finally get it done.

8. Remember that the most solidly red states like Wyoming, Utah, and Idaho were among the first to grant women the right to vote.

9. Tell misogynists that they have no place in the Republican Party.

10. Instill in your daughters values such as courage, honor, loyalty, and leadership that are traditionally instilled in males. Teach your daughter to shoot. Take her to baseball games and encourage her to get involved in sports. This advice is especially for fathers. A girl who has a healthy relationship with her real father is not likely to need big government as a surrogate daddy.

11. Don’t take Ann Coulter too seriously. She says outrageous things. It’s part of her schtick. She wants to get liberals’ panties in a wad. When she says “women shouldn’t vote,” I seriously doubt she actually means it. After all, I’m pretty sure SHE votes.

I can’t believe this thread. Our party has been burnt to ashes from within and without. Our beloved country is in danger of of a transformation like nothing even close to what she is facing now, and you have the audacity to suggest that this election is the fault of American women??

I know the road ahead is going to be very tough, but I sure didn’t think we would be attacking each other from within. But then, that is the reason we lost isn’t it? This is pathetic!

Reagan in 1980 was at only a -13 year disadvantage with Carter, whereas GHWB was at -22 years against Clinton in 1992, and McCain was at a whopping -25 years against Obama in 2008.

Let me amplify that:

1980: Reagan 69, Carter 56
Reagan: -13 years

1984: Reagan 73yo, Mondale 56yo
Reagan: -17 years

1988: GWHB 64yo, Dukakis 55yo
GHWB: -9 years

1992: Clinton 46yo, GHWB 68yo
Clinton: +22 years

1996: Clinton 50yo, Dole 73yo
Clinton: +23 years

2000: W 54yo, Gore 52yo
W: -2 years

2004: W 58yo, Kerry 61yo
W: +3 years

2008: Obama 47yo, McCain 72yo
Obama: +25 years

Even setting aside all the other demographic problems facing the American experiment, I think that it's ludicrous to hope that GHWB at -22, Dole at -23, and McCain at -25 ever stood a snowball's chance in Hades vis-a-vis what passes for modern American culture and its obsession with sexual virility.

but women voted for Obama by 56% to 43%.

It is very simple. Women have an innate desire to be "taken care of." Therefore, would they not vote for a socialist who will ensure that their every needs are accommodated?

I always think of the Fed-Ex ad where men and women were sitting around a meeting room table. One man made the suggestion to ship with Fed-Ex and make a short horizontal motion with his hands. A better looking, better dressed man said the same thing and made a forceful vertical jester with his hands. The room responded to the second man's idea. This is women voting.

Cleaning out the institutions involves getting rid of leftists in government, academia and the media. Without that influence, leftists can’t survive.

As I said, you have a better idea, let’s hear it.

Outstanding list! Number 8 is very poignant. And 10 is so obvious most people will not have thought of it and libs won’t understand it.

My “better idea” is to organize better and get out the vote and defeat them at the polls and it will take the efforts of men and women to do that as was done in the Reagan era and through the Contract with America era.
