Vanity: Women elect Barack Obama
vanity | November 5, 2008 | me

According to the exit polls at http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/results/president/, Obama and McCain were almost tied in the men's vote, 49% to 48%, but women voted for Obama by 56% to 43%.

I have occasionally discussed politics with women and usually found it frustrating. They think in a very different manner than I do. I am trying to phrase this in a neutral manner.

Suggestions on how to reclaim womens' votes are welcome. Although some women vote Republican, I think their overall support for the Democratic candidate is worth discussing, since the 19th Amendment is not going to be repealed.

I think we should start with all the men who voted for Obama. ;)

I read quite a few of those same comments right here on FR. Female posters who slammed Palin as “not articulate enough” or should “be at home with her special needs baby” or my favorite “making sure her teen daughters didn’t have sex with their boyfriends and get pregnant and because she the mom wasn’t paying enough attention and was too ambitious, one of her teen daughters went out and had sex and got pregnant.”

I have some very unpopular theories on the effect women's emancipation has had on the political direction in this country.

Not relating to anyone here, of course.

I'm so glad you're smart and you put it like that.

So many of these knuckle-draggers come blasting onto these threads, blaming all women for all of the world's problems. Of course, they tend to be bitter, divorced losers.

The women of FR are a more intelligent breed. :)

Anyone who has the intelligence & temperment to seek out a conservative forum like FR is naturally a cut above...

I’m afraid that, ideally, we should work to repeal the Nineteenth Amendment. I know a lot of conservative women that would happily give up their votes if the liberal harlots had to give up theirs, so I don’t see this as misogynistic.

Republican women also tend to be RINOs. Look at how much support Rudy Giuliani got from women. Look at how liberal the two senators from Maine are, especially Olympia Snowe.

If we are to get rid of the emotional feelings in our party that the Democrats are loaded with, we’re going to have to start somewhere. Although we can’t repeal the Nineteenth immediately, I think that we should ultimately work for that.

As for how we lead up to the repeal without destroying our electoral chances, someone help me out. I’m not an expert at playing politics.
