Pro-Life Advocates Urged to Renew Efforts Against Abortion After Election Loss
Life News ^ | 11/5/08 | Steven Ertelt

Posted on 11/05/2008 3:56:52 PM PST by wagglebee

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Several pro-life leaders are hoping the majority of Americans who take a pro-life position on abortion will re-charge and re-energize following Tuesday night's election defeats. They say the pro-life movement must prepare themselves to take on a pro-abortion president and renew educational efforts.

"We have long known that the work of advancing a culture of life is not a short-term project," Americans United for Life president Charmaine Yoest told LifeNews.com.

"Recall that William Wilberforce fought against the slave trade for 45 years before he ultimately prevailed in his defense of life," she said.

"In 2008, it is clear that, despite the challenges still remaining, the pro-life message is steadily gaining ground," Yoest contends. "Momentum in the states has enabled us to make significant gains in protecting women and unborn children. Young people today self-report as pro life at a higher rate than their parents' generation."

After the elections, Father Frank Pavone spoke of a "great mistake" but an "abiding hope."

"Americans have made a grave mistake in electing Barack Obama to the presidency," he said. "Yet America herself remains great and is not a mistake, which is why so many of her citizens will continue, with even greater energy and determination, to defend her founding principles."

Pavone urged the pro-life community to rally together to oppose the coming Obama administration's efforts to roll back pro-life laws.

"The pro-life movement has made significant gains in the courts and in the law in these last eight years. For the next four, the movement will work to prevent the erosion of that progress," he said.

Bradley Mattes, the director of Life Issues Institute, encouraged pro-life groups and advocates to focus on education with the reality that legislative goals of ending abortion are now stalled.

“With federal legislation no longer an option for a minimum of two years, pro-life education is absolutely central and critical to our future efforts of ending abortion," he told LifeNews.com.

"The key to countering this devastating political loss is to change the hearts and minds of Americans on abortion and related life issues. That can only be done through effective pro-life education," he added.

Troy Newman, the president of Operation Rescue said he thinks the pro-life movement will ultimately prevail.

"Yesterday's losses are just a speed bump on the road to victory for the innocent," he told LifeNews.com. "Overall, Americans are more pro-life than ever before. Election cycles tend to be cyclical, and we are confident that we will once again have our day."

"These setbacks will only energize us. The fight is on," Newman explained. "We will continue to work though every available legal means to stop abortion. The person occupying the White House will not diminish that work."

"Now is not the time for discouragement, but a time to roll up our sleeves and continue the fight, having peace knowing that the results in God's hands and, ultimately, victory is assured," he concluded.

From the ashes of defeat, a phoenix slowly rises.

Am I willing to trade the POTUS for the lives of millions of innocent infants? Please don’t make me choose, but I choose life.

Strange times we are in — but let’s ride and strengthen the good trends.

It’s going to be a tough fight now, as Pro-Death Pelosi, Pro-death Reid, and kill the babies born alive Obama are in office. We have never had this tough of opposition to the sanctity of life ever. These three would kill a baby on site just to satisfy their hatred of them. They are bloodthirsty monsters. Baby killers, children slaughterers. (That’s it, I am going to attack them with the same amount they attacked us)

What is horrible about the losses is that Pro-Life groups did not whole heatedly support the propositions. After doing so well to make steady progress with waiting period legislation, and notification laws. There are so many ways to wage war on Abortion in the legal system.

New Terri Dailies theme...

I will be forever humbled by the lengths Eduardo Verastegui and so many others went to in this election and I cannot begin to express how grateful I am for so many FReepers who recognize the absolute importance of life.  Nevertheless, the election is over and we are now engaged in the most critical battle we will ever fight and for that reason we must look forward.

God Bless

Yes. Wonderfully written and inspiring. We can do this!!!! What doesn't kill us makes us stronger and we have God on our side after all :-). Heck if people all gave up when it got tough, we would not even be around and the United States of America nor Christianity would exist.

BO supports killing them when they are born alive. His is guilty of Romans 1

18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

19Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

20For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

29Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

I think the entire pro-life movement is misguided. Rather than just focus on abortion, maybe they should work to covert more people to Christianity. I don’t mean wishy-washy new age “Christians”, I mean doctrinally correct real Christians.

Because once you do that most if not all of them will come to the right conclusion about life issues.

Christ did not tell us to go out and stop abortions, he told us to spread the Gospel.

Father Frank Pavone, a great friend to Terri and all who fight for life, explains just what a monster Obama truly is.

Thread by cpforlife.org

The Most Pro-Abortion President in History: Barack Hussein Obama to Become 44th US President

Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for life issued a strongly-worded video statement putting Obama's victory in perspective with the future of the pro-life movement.

"This is one of the biggest mistakes that the American people have made in the entire history of our nation," said Fr. Pavone, "and the many reasons why that's true will come to light as the months go on. But the biggest reason why that's true is that here we have a president-elect who cannot tell the difference betweens serving the public and killing the public.

"If you don't know when human rights begin, then you're in no position to govern a country that was founded on the principle of human rights," said Fr. Pavone. Sen. Obama, when asked at the Saddleback Church forum when he thought a child gained human rights, infamously answered that the question was "above my pay grade."

"A lot changes with this," Fr. Pavone continued, noting that pro-lifers will no longer be able to work inside the White House, and will be forced to turn to defensive maneuvers in the U.S legislature.

However, "change" is far from the whole story, says Pavone, who reminds viewers of the many things that remain the same.

"The American people are pro-life," he affirmed. "The American people have never bought into the extreme abortion position of Obama and his party. And they never will. That is why the American people ... will continue to work with us.

Above all, Fr. Pavone declared, "What is never going to change is that this movement is headed for victory.

"We have started a movement on behalf of the unborn, and that movement enters a new chapter today, a chapter of new determination, of new vigor, of new strategy."

Pavone spoke words of comfort to pro-lifers struggling to accept the election news.

"Be encouraged! It's fine to be disappointed about the outcome of an election," he said. "But we can never walk away from the cause. Together we will work, we will protest, we will defend, we will intervene, we will educate, and we will win this struggle for the lives of our unborn brothers and sisters."

I will respect your feelings about Terri — you may recall I disagreed. I shan’t be pontificating on that subject (my old posts pretty much cover the subject anyway).

But IMHO, abortion is about life where it is clear that the spark of life has been breathed into the soul by God — to be snuffed out is an affront to God and man.

Who can look into the eyes of a baby and then plant a knife in its spine? Only a monster.

IMHO, the pro-life people are taking the wrong tack. They need to stop trying to make people feel guilty and instead work toward helping those who are consumed by guilt, find atonement.

Although there are some soulless people who don't feel any guilt at all about abortion, I would expect that a lot of the people involved with abortion (either because they had one themselves, or have a friend that did so) feel that the only way to avoid being consumed by guilt is to deny that abortion is wrong. Such denial never really quite works, but the more people feel consumed by guilt, the stronger the denial reaction becomes.

People need to be told that it's okay to have participated in an abortion, provided that one repents of one's actions and atones by counseling others to avoid the same mistake. I would expect that people who were able to repent and seek atonement--whether on a religious or secular level--would find themselves feeling an amazing amount better than they did before. If such people reached critical mass, there could be a sea change.

Unless or until that happens, though, the pro-life issue is going to be a weight on the Republicans' necks. Not because it isn't the right position, but because so many people are so hard in denial that they would vote for Satan himself before they'd vote for Sarah Palin.

"The Killing Must End”: Christian Defense Coalition to Launch Major Post-Inaugural Pro-Life Campaign

"It is clear that Mr. Obama will continue the tragic violence against our nation's women and children which has resulted in over 50,000,000 abortions," said Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, in a recent statement.

The focus of the project, according to the press release, will be "to mobilize a public, prayerful and prophetic witness for life to challenge the radical pro-abortion policies of President-elect Barack Obama" on January 21-24, 2009.

"'The Birmingham Letter Project' is about empowering and unleashing the pro-life community to stand against this injustice just as civil rights workers stood against the injustice of segregation, violence and racism a generation ago," said Mahoney.

"We are taking to heart the admonition of Dr. King when he said from a Birmingham jail, 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,' and will passionately devote ourselves toward bringing this war on America's children to an end. …

"We will not go silently into the night and allow the violence to continue. Instead, we are issuing this national call for the pro-life community to come to the streets of our nation's capital and be a prayerful voice for those who have no voice.

"Our message is clear. Now is the time. We are the people. The killing must end."

Were there any abortion related ballot initiatives out there in 2008, and how did they do?

I remember a couple of years back California voters even rejected parental notification for minors seeking abortions. I would think most, if not all, of the remaining 49 states would reject that.

How odd that America has laws to prevent cruelty to animals, and animal rights groups to save the whales and baby seal pups, but they will write new laws which allow and condone violent cruel death io innocent human beings. So ironic that they value the life of a soul-less animal above the life of a fetus or newborn with a soul that was given to them by God...

To allow abortion is to allow a terrible offense against God and Heaven..This is a Holocaust as any right thinking person can see..

As a pro-life voter I am hugely discouraged. Its hard to keep a positive outlook. In my opinion for the last 30 years the Republican party has treated this constiuency as a battered wife. Despite their overwhelming support in elections, abortion has remained the law of the due to Republican Presidents putting Souter, O’Connor et al. on the Supreme Court. Had Roe v. Wade been overturned in the last four years and essentially sent back to the states, Obama would have won an even bigger landslide

After the elections, Father Frank Pavone spoke of a "great mistake" but an "abiding hope."

"Americans have made a grave mistake in electing Barack Obama to the presidency," he said.

Sadly, neither Father Pavone or the people seem to understand that since the federal Constitution says nothing about abortion, the federal government has no power to regulate abortion. So it wouldn't matter if government leaders in all three branches of the federal government are radical pro-abortionists; again, the federal Constitution delegates no power to the federal government make decisions about abortion.

The truth of the matter is that Constitution-ignoring justices not only ignored 10th A. protected state power to regulate abortion in Roe v. Wade, but also wrongly used the 14th A. to find "enumerated" abortion rights in the 9th Amendment. Indeed, John Bingham, the main author of Sec. 1 of the 14th A. had made it clear in congressional records that the 14th A. applied only to enumerated rights decided by the Article V majority, not 9th A. "wild card" rights like abortion found by corrupt justices.

As a side note, consider the following double-standard by the USSC where respecting state's rights are concerned. While the USSC wrongly ignored states's rights in deciding Roe v. Wade, the Court "remembered" states rights when handling the Terri Schiavo case. So it seems that the corrupt Court is willing to honor state's rights if somebody gets killed.

Pro-life people need to help those who have been involved with abortion erase their guilt through atonement. If they can do that, the pro-life stance will be an overwhelming positive for conservatives. If they can't, it will be a dead weight.

Payback Time: What Planned Parenthood Expects from Barack Obama

November 6, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The decades-long love affair between Barack Obama and Planned Parenthood has reached its political fruition. Obama will soon be ensconced in the Oval Office, with all the people who helped put him there lined up outside for goodies. At the head of the line will be Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers. What will they ask for?

The three things that they want from a President Obama are more money for their contraception and sterilization programs, an end to any and all restrictions on abortions, and taxpayer funding, including funding for abortion itself.

Judging by what Obama has said over the course of the campaign, he will be happy to grant their wishes...

"We will not be silent. We are your bad conscience. The White Rose will give you no rest."

[Electing Obama] A Grave Mistake and an Abiding Hope

Americans have made a grave mistake in electing Barack Obama to the presidency. Yet America herself remains great and is not a mistake, which is why so many of her citizens will continue, with even greater energy and determination, to defend her founding principles.

The man elected to the Presidency said during the campaign that he does not know when a human being starts to have human rights. How can one govern from that starting point of ignorance? Governing is about protecting human rights; to do it successfully, you have to know where they come from, and when they begin.

The President-elect has already failed that test miserably.

The American people do not share Barack Obama’s extreme and offensive views on abortion. They never have and they never will. The coming four years will see a widening gap between the people and their President on this fundamental issue. As Americans come to know how extreme his position is, the intensity of the struggle to protect these children will only increase.

The pro-life movement has made significant gains in the courts and in the law in these last eight years. For the next four, the movement will work to prevent the erosion of that progress.

It would be a serious mistake for people to think that this election means the pro-life movement has no political power. All politics is local. Political power is about people. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was once told that given the political realities, civil rights legislation would be impossible to pass. “We’ll just have to see about that,” he replied. And the civil rights movement was born, stirring the hearts of the people to lead the nation to the victory of justice.

So it is with our movement. The vast majority of Americans are pro-life. They will fight abortion on the local level, opening pregnancy centers and closing abortion mills, activating their Churches and educating their children, proclaiming the message in the media and demonstrating in the streets. The pro-life movement is winning this battle in the hearts and minds of the American people, as opinion polls show and as the shrinking number of abortion mills and abortion providers prove.

Political races are always a swinging of the pendulum. As soon as you win, you begin to lose, and as soon as you lose, you begin the ascent again to winning. In the next two election cycles (2010 and 2012) the pro-life movement will make up for political ground lost in this one.

It is all right to be disappointed at the end of an election season, but one must never walk away. Amidst disappointment is abiding hope in America, where everything remains possible, and where a new chapter of the pro-life movement has just begun. The efforts that were made, and the sacrifices endured in this election season made a difference, and we will build on that difference to see another day when the work and the ballots of pro-life people will dismantle the Culture of Death. We will keep marching toward that pro-life America we seek, and won’t stop until we get there.

Our great friend Jill Stanek explains exactly why Obama was elected.

Life will not go on

Barack Obama was elected president despite the fact he supports abortion into the fourth trimester.

Either the 63 million people voting for him didn't know about his radical record, which includes abandoning abortion survivors to die, didn't care, or didn't believe it.

Wesley J. Smith: Assisted Suicide Movement Becomes Absurd, Is Jumping Off Bridges Next?

I am having trouble keeping up: Every day now almost, it is one once unthinkable thing after another.

In the UK, a woman tried to commit suicide by swallowing anti-freeze, and doctors refused to save her! From the story:

Kerrie Wooltorton arrived fully conscious in hospital clutching a 'living will' in which she stated she did not want to be saved and was '100 per cent aware of the consequences'. The former charity shop worker called an ambulance after drinking the anti-freeze at her flat...

Consultant renal physician Alexander Heaton Alexander Heaton told the inquest in Norwich that the hospital's medical director and legal adviser informed him Miss Wooltorton clearly had the mental capacity to make the decision about her treatment…''She had made them abundantly clear and I was content that that was the case. It's a horrible thing to have to do but I felt I had no alternative but to go with her wishes. Nobody wants to let a young lady die."

Well, then why prevent a person from jumping off a bridge? Indeed, why not just get it over with and set up the euthanasia clinics to make sure nobody is hurt by jumpers! Remember the death of E.G. Robinson's character in Soylent Green at the death center? It's almost not science fiction anymore.

This is runaway terminal nonjudgmentalism. We are so lost in the fog of relativism and amorality that we can't even save suicidal people's lives anymore.
