If you go to post a thread under News/Activism, it shows up under the (required) field "Topics" (comma-separated list of no more than 4 topics . . .).
I don't think it matters that much, again, I simply find it humorous that the people who take the trouble to identify their thread as a "vanity" (in the headline or otherwise) neglect to check that particular box.
I agree, let the vanities continue, at least for the nonce.
I think we all need to vent, and if we delete anything that’s not a news article or comment on said news article, you’re removing a lot of what makes Freep such a neat place to come to and read the thoughts of my fellow conservatives.

Okay. But I do think people would use a "Forum: Opinions (vanity)". Then, you could go read them if interested. Otherwise, they wouldn't clog up the popular News/Activism, etc.
Maybe the Mods will consider adding a forum.
That doesn’t include ME, right? ( ;-D
That's a good point and I hadn't thought of that. Thanks.
The danger of suppressing vanity posts is that it encourages followers rather than leaders.
We are inundated with "news", op-eds, excerpts from professional writers (I occasionally get paid for writing) all the opinion of others. The problem is, they often do not reflect original thought by FReepers.
I would ask if it is your position that FReepers are not capable of original thought? If so, I vehemently disagree. Original opinion promotes thoughtful response. In view of the recent political debacle I would submit that we desperately need original thought.
LOL!! That's a great tagline!
Hooah.
Uh-Oh! kristinn saw your vanity post, VigilantAmerican!
Now you are in big puppy trouble! (Just kidding!, it was one of the funniest threads I have seen in awhile!
Of course, when I saw her vanity post kvetching about vanity posts last night, I assumed it was “all about me.”
But the whole point is that since we’ve elected an utterly underqualified, affirmative-action leader of our nation, all standards everywhere are hereon rendered meaningless and must be scorned—so excessive vanity posts are the new order here on FR, and Bill Ayers will be the new head of Homeland Security or the FBI, Tony Rezko will be pardoned and will preside over FHA, and so on...
Here is a link to a vanity post by a newbie (VigilantAmerican)
He worked his hairy backside off during the day, after working the graveyard shift to support the young family, and he was venting.
That said, there are some really wonderful responses full of the best Freeper humor I have seen in quite awhile, especially the mathematical anyalses of how momma ducks count to keep track of the ducklings!

he worked his precinct, that is, to get our the vote in Fairfax County, VA.
I need he needs big Freeper hugs, because he did his very best, badly needs some sleep, and feels pretty cranky about the loss.
* snicker *
and, if you care enough, see his post #15 on the link above. Then, quit pickin’ on newbies, for you may not know who you are “dissing”.

Good post. Also, short vanities can be in a tagline.
