Arizona Sen. John McCain was hammered by the Latino vote, hurting him in battleground states of Florida, Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico as he lost his presidential bid to Barack Obama.
Obama took two-thirds of the overall Hispanic vote and McCain got 32 percent, according to exit polls conducted by NBC News. George Bush got 44 percent of the Hispanic vote in 2004.
McCain also didnt fare well among younger and working-class voters and did not do as well as Bush with whites, middle-class and older voters.

well one problem is that mccain just can’t connect with people the way Bush did. stuck in washington too long.
Hey, John! That pandering crap didn’t much work out for you, did it? You fail to realize that latinos have a history of socialism, as chances are excellent they came from socialist countries before they got here. Socialism is what they know and like. They will invariably vote for the guy who promises them more free stuff. Latinos are generally conservative and pro-life? Bull crap.
Well, I cannot, will not connect with the likes of Obama
well they are conservative enough to help pass prop 8 in CA and similar laws in other states
he doesn’t have to connect. His job is simple: just give out checks to people.
Republicans don’t have it so easy so they have to connect and have ideas and solve problems.
Good for the social conservatives, the libertarian types like me are still annoyed with the whole "taking other people's money through the government."
Bush also pandered to them...so why did he win more than mccain?
well other libertarians want open borders and amnesty.
Where do you pick up these free handouts? I am in Washington and can leave anytime to do it.
This is the kind of thing that will guilt the spineless wonders with Reid and Pelosi to pass amnesty for illegal aliens. Yes, I know that all illegal aliens are not Hispanic, Mexican, Cuban and come from all over the world. However, the majority do in fact come from South of the border and we have had amnesty before and it didn’t stop illegal aliens. You combine that with Cuban refugees getting special treatment—Communist or not—that’s the way many see it and millions who in fact try their best to enter the country legally from all over the world and do everything asked of them but get overlooked, passed up and it gets more not fair. Then you have people and I know one from Nigeria who has a UK and a Nigerian passport and whose wife is a Tanzanian. This guy has family in the USA. He sends his wife to Texas each time during month 8 of a pregnancy and induces labor and returns so his kids can have an American passport and so this family is situated to get into any country they want. He has done this four times now since I have known him. He openly brags about it and abuses the system and points out to me that the USA is the only western country that has birthright citzenship. And you get employers who sidestep hiring Americans or looking for legal workers since it is harder to do so when you can just drive down to the local labor hall and hire illegals, abuse them and pay them crappy wages and not have to comply with the paperwork that the American government requires and various states require. The Democrats and MSM are lumping these illegal alien issues with Latino voters and their issues believing that it will buy the Latino vote for the Democratic party for the next fifty years. They are not trying to address the needs of the Latino voters who are American citizens or address the problems of illegal aliens as opposed to lawful immigration. The system is breaking and we can’t afford it and we can’t employ our own (many of our own who are Latino can’t even get jobs). Charity begins at home. We should take care of our own first. The economy along with people blinded by race is why McCain lost. And amnesty which did not work before will only make the economy worse. And notice how if anyone speaks up, the MSM warps it to say that we are racists or they are starving (like our own are not) or the majority want immigration reform meaning in their minds amnesty and not border control and notice how they don’t address the needs of Latinos or anyone else. They lump it all together just like the Democratic party does believing by doing so the Latino vote is taken for granted for the next fifty years.
If he had hung tough on driver's licenses and no fence, I wonder how well he'd have done? Ahhh, now there is the $64,000 question.
Something Bush and Rove pushed was the immigration thing, and they knew they were going against the Party for the benefit of employers of illegals. That is 100% the story there. Their "talking point" about getting 40% splits of the Hispanic vote was a cock-and-bull story. They were getting their splits from Central Americans, South Americans, and Cubanos -- not Mexicans, who are the principal group in this equation.
Mexicans are hard-core socialists, PRD- and PRI- raised and educated. Relatively few come from the northern Mexican states that give you a PAN background and a decent split of votes -- on issues that don't have anything to do with immigration.
That "racist" stuff was always LaRaza/NALEO propaganda, and someone needs to stand up and pants it.
The only silver lining in this cloud is that we do not have McCain reaching across Pennsylvania avenue for four years.
My tag line says it all. McCain and all the other GOP Shamnesty supporters were stupid to think that by granting illegal immigrants amnesty, that Hispanic voters would flock to the GOP. Hispanic U.S. citizens resent illegals as much as whites and blacks.
he’ll be in the senate working with obama on a new immigration bill :/

And McCain did not go after the worst of the culprits. . .criminals or for that matter; demand redress.
