GOP Defeat and the 'New Tone'
American Thinker ^ | November 6, 2008 | C. Edmund Wright

Tuesday's debacle was some 8 years in the making. Or more.

Consider: Eight years ago, George Bush rode into town from Texas with one thing on his mind: bringing a "new tone to Washington." He was going to use his Texas charm and drawl to end all of the partisan bickering. This was a tad dispiriting to t some of us who had supported him frankly. We were thinking more along the lines of some partisan victories in congress to roll back some liberalism. Actually, only Bush wanted a new tone. Neither his supporters nor his opponents had even the vaguest interest in it, dooming it from the start.

We were drifting after we took Iraq and did not have the guts to suppress the terrorists lest we 'offend' someone. It became a PC war, run by the State Dept.

We should have started shooting the looters on sight.

Barnes, Another I hope Rush purges when he starts mentioning names, he has gone full asshat in my book, bye-bye Fred....

My I suggest that all stop watching Fox and reading the phony conservative journals, like National Review and Standard.

We can punish them by watching their ratings drop and readership dry up.

"Bush didn’t stand up for himself and us. Neither did McLame. Neither did the GOP."

I hate to tell you this, but it was no accident nor coincidence.

RINOs GH Bush, GW Bush, McLame, etal. are CFR Globalists First and America Last.

How else does one explain the quick, clear divisive destruction of the GOP?; Or its failure to initiate and implement ANY conservative agenda despite owning the Presidency, the Congress and Senate in 2004?; Bush's socialist policies?; Bush's and McCain's desire for Open Borders and rewarding millions of illegal invaders with amnesty?; and Bush's refusal to veto ANY socialistic programs?

Today's GOP "leadership" is a fraud and front for the elites of the New World Order - complicit with Democrats.

C. Edmund Wright is brilliant, because he thinks the same way I do. ;^)

I've called Bush, the 'proto-McCain for a couple of years. The new tone and reaching across the aisle are just what the then media darling 'maverick' John McCain was all about.

The new tone, meant that Bush did not defend himself, relying on the verdict of history to treat him better. Yeah, that might work for a President, but it doesn't work for his constituents, who live in the real world and have to deal with the consequences.

But it was worse than this. Bush's defenders went out there and defended his policies and his statements. Let's just take one example that have horrendous consequences. In Bush's 2003, he spoke the famous 'sixteen words':

"the British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa,"

These words were true. They were honest. They were confirmed by Mr Valerie Plame, Ambassador Joe Wilson on his trip to Niger. What did the 'New Tone' besotten George W Bush do? He allowed his defenders to go out there and defend him and defend the truth of that statemen, then he stabbed his defenders in the back and pulled the rug out from under them by apologized. That's not the worst of it. This apology gave truth to the lie that Bush lied. Later, it was evidence that Bush lied his way into the Iraq War. John Kerry and Hillary Clinton both said they were deceived into supporting the Iraq War. Bush lied, people died.

So, Bush's New Tone undermined the dominant policy of his entire Administration; the Iraq War. He handed his enemies a club to beat him and took away any incentive for his supporters to defend him. Why, for Pete's sake, defend a man, who refuses to defend himself? He doesn't believe he's worth defending.

McCain's the same. McCain's last 5 minutes of his convention acceptance speech was on the theme, 'fight with me', 'fight for America'. McCain also campaigned for 18 months on the 'I'll make them famous' theme. But then, during the campaign McCain didn't fight. He didn't name names. He didn't make anyone except Sarah Palin famous, who did fight. Palin was the only politician, Democrat or Republican, who successfully criticized Obama, who got under his skin and stuck the knife in.

McCain sure didn't attack Obama. Obama and Biden are both members of the club of the US Senate. One simply doesn't attack members of the club. Which is why McCain named names (only one time) and made no pork-barrel politician famous. He wasn't going to shake up Washington. He wasn't serious about change in Washington or wasn't serious enough to start making enemies now. McCain wouldn't defend himself and wouldn't attack his political enemies. NO more New Tone.

Exactly - witness the standoff the GOP waged in the House this summer regarding drilling. THAT is precisely what our representatives should be doing for the American people - watching out for our interests, serving the people, and standing firm on our principles. Trying to compromise with Dims never works because the Dims’ idea of compromise is totally one-sided: Republicans must capitulate.

Exactly!

The GOP is going to see the 'new tone' under Obama, they are going to totally ignore the GOP, like Clinton did.

That is why all this nonsense from McCain and Macdonald (Ky) are sneared at the Democrats, they don't need any help from the GOP, and are going to enact whatever agenda they want.

'Tone' is only important when the GOP is in control.

And that will not happen for a very long time.

We should have started shooting the looters on sight.

Exactly correct.

We should have let the Iraqi's that we were in charge and any acts of resistance would mean death.

When we took Germany and Japan that is exactly how we dealt with them.

There was no resistance allowed, even though the Germans did attempt some terrorist acts, they were quickly hunted down and executed by the military, no civilian courts were involved.

Interesting how the McCain campaign is now scapegoating Gov Palin. Seems there is now a concerted effort to damage her for any future political consideration.

I've avoided Fox for the past few years...BUT just happened to catch Carl Cameron on Shep Smith/O'Reilly and his unnamed sources.
My IMMEDIATE IMPRESSION...Carl could be likened to a breathless, excitable, prepubescence, girl just about to bleat out the latest vicious gossip.

When I watched this, I rechecked my "GUIDE" button on the remote to make sure that I was watching FNC and not a rerun of the movie Heathers.

Let’s face facts. McCain didn’t have the killer instinct necessary to win an election. Palin didn’t cost him the election, he did it to himself. I think Senators make lousy Presidential candidates in general. Too much of a club-like fraternity amongst Senators that make it hard to attack one another. Note how he was very soft on Chris Dodd’s incompetance regarding the Countrywide loan scandal and Barney Frank’s involvment w/FMFM.

Why we got defeated is this — we were trying to be Democrats LIGHT. We need to rid the party of DEADWOOD, and get out and find CONSERVATIVES for congress in 2010. (I might announce in a few days, and in my speech I’m going to say that I am a CONSERVATIVE and Washington should stay out of the way. I’m goin to tell the people that I am going to Washington to lower taxes, open up markets and create jobs. I’m not going to Washington to live, be invited to parties or change my views. Heck, my wife and kids will stay in Maine so I will come back.
I am going to give the newly elected congressman (a D) fits.

I'm really happier with each election cycle. The GOP keeps shrinking as the putrescent deadwood keeps being lopped off. The RINO gangrene is disappearing. A few more election cycles, we'll finally have the party and the leadership we need. I'm having a ball! :-)

If we could get a viable third party...

How about a party called "Conservative Republican"--?

What if we could get Newt to run against a RINO in some Senate primary, somewhere? Wish Lindsey Graham was up for reelction in 2010.

BINGO!! great morning coffee read. Thanks for posting it. I hope our republican leadership is listening.

Our leadership is precisely why we are in this mes, we need to stop waiting for leaders and lead ourselves. There is no Reagan out there. He left us principles, work on them. Last time I looked Reagan was dead. We can't wait for leaders, that's like waiting for a messiah. We the grass roots need to take charge and organize. We have to sack the sh*ts at the top and replace them from the grass roots. We need a purge, from the county level and up. Conservatives need to do to the republican party what the left did to the democrats, infiltrate from the bottom and take it over. Stop wasting time on bluebloods and lackeys in washington whose only interest is getting invited to cocktail parties.

Could not agree more but I was referring to our ‘elected leaders’. They need to be ousted. For instance, I would like to see Mike Pence put in the House Minority leadership role..a new RNC chairman with guts and spine...etc.

Your point is well taken and it is time for us to start a Conservative Congressional Committee PAC, so that when the Rinos try to oust our guys, we are ready with sources of money to support them.

I see an epic battle ahead for the future of our party.
