Skip to comments.Waxman attacks Dingell: Now it gets interesting for Democrats
Posted on 11/06/2008 8:20:06 AM PST by markomalley
California's Henry Waxman unleashed a surprise attack Wednesday against fellow Democrat John Dingell of Michigan.
Each wants to lead the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee; Dingell is now chairman.
The panel will be extremely important in 2009, when President Barack Obama unveils his plans to dramatically alter America's energy strategy.
Obama correctly wants to push renewables, something dear to Waxman's heart.
Dingell, on the other hand, has been a longtime supporter of the Big 3 auto companies. He succeeded for years in fending off congressional attempts to require higher fuel efficiency from U.S. vehicles.
In Waxman's attack against Dingell, he said in part: "The issues we will confront are immensely difficult. We will need the very best leadership in Congress and our committees to succeed.
"Enacting comprehensive energy, climate, and health care reform will not be easy. But my record shows that I have the skill and ability to build consensus and deliver legislation that improves the lives of all Americans."
Jodi Seth, a Dingell spokeswoman, responded:
"Tearing a leadership apart is something the Republicans should be doing after their big loss. It shouldn't be the first order of business for the Democrats after a historic election."

I’ll take the Dingell berry for $10..........
This is going to be fun. All eyes are on the Democrats. Let us see how long it is before this falls apart.
They should work it out with a duel. Shotguns at 15 feet.
Your on. When it comes to democrats having a cat fight always bet on the crazier one. And Waxman jumped off the sanity train a long, long time ago.
Only if you think that hitting your big toe with a hammer is "fun".
We called in the painters, and they've started tearing down walls and remodeling!
Unions versus environmentalists, news at 10.
Pelosi will have to put down this insurrection and fast. Dingell will retain his chair. Waxman is not gonna take it away..........
Hand grenades would be better...........
We don’t need Californians setting energy policy.
What an unmitigated disaster that would be for the country.
Barak is already pretty stupid for saying we shouldn’t build coal plants. I take the idiot at his word, but I know that is subject to change depending on who is writing the check.
the gays and blacks are still fighting each other.
coming soon: kids who like their iphones vs the commies who want them to dig ditches for the common good.
Given her last two years of utter incompetence I wonder if she is going to have to make some serious concessions with the boys to keep her precious gavel.
Any of you photoshop geeks out there want to make a Pelosi/ Gollum precious gavel picture for us?
Note to self: buy popcorn futures.
I don’t think she will. Pelosi sides with Waxman and has gone up against Dingell before.
This isn’t about Dingell v. Waxman as it is Everbody Else v. Michigan. Michigan has demonstrated it’s happy to eat crap sandwiches with an extra helping for dessert.
I believe that Dingell actually owns guns and supports the 2nd Amendment.
There is nothing quite so delicious as vicious bifactionalism. Heads will roll. In politics, it is akin to civil wars.
I saw this on Beacon Hill in Boston years ago. It was quite a hoot as the governor’s office(Dukakis) was at endless war with the legislature(more than 70% Democrats).
Waxman need not go out in a downpour. He’d drown.
Not much of an economy to feast on.
* Democrats ** in the Capitol
When will the trial lawyers clash with Wall Street bankers?
Waxman will win by a nose!
Dingell has a “rapport” with the automakers and the UAW that Waxman cannot match. He’s not a crazy environmental whack job like Waxman. At least Dingell knows that if the Big 3 and UAW goes down, his job is toast. Waxman hasn’t got that problem. He wants to intimidate them into making green crap nobody will buy................
What about Dingell/Norwood?
The wheels on the bus go bump, bump. bump.
lol.. good one
After Obama’s new gun laws take effect, they won’t be able too.
How that piece of Kalifornia crap ever even once served on LA Council is beyond me. He was a stone empty head and tried to look important. His elevator does not go to the top floor.
The Honorable Henry A. WaxmanNo call or letter from an aide or even an intern. Henry is simply too busy attending to the needs of Agoura Hills, Beverly Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Malibu, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, Westlake Village, Pacific Palisades, West Hills, Canoga Park, Bel-Air, Century City, Westwood, Brentwood, Topanga, Chatsworth, Woodland Hills, Beverlywood and West Los Angeles.

Dear Congressman Waxman,
Please excuse us for writing to you at this late date, almost 4 years since the events we will describe. Through the years we have tried many other ways to seek remedy, but all avenues proved fruitless. We beg the assistance of your office, as United States citizens and residents of the 30th congressional district.
Our only child, Gregory, was on a business trip to Moscow in October of 2002. While on this trip he took a break from work and relaxed as a spectator at the popular Russian musical, Nord-Ost, in a theater on Dubrovka Street in Moscow. On the night he was in attendance, Chechen rebels seized him and over 800 other hostages, and held them in a standoff that lasted almost 3 days. To end the hostage crisis, the Russian authorities availed themselves to a secret gas based on Fentanyl... (SNIP)
Dingell is pro-gun too.
Wait, a waxman wants to have a pi**in’ contest with a “dingell”?....... LMAO
The senate is going to throw Mr. KKK himself under the bus.
Or push him down the stairs, Chicago style.
How long do you think it’ll be before the “civil war” breaks out in the Dem Party. Which minority group do you think will win? Since Obama is black, will the Black Caucus rule? Do you think Nancy will be sent back to the kitchen?
I’m going to enjoy this. It’s already begun.
I just heard Dingell trash Waxman on WJR Radio in Detroit in the top of the hour news segment.
Popcorn! Getcher popcorn!!!
It is all rhetoric. When it comes down to where the rubber meets the road, it is the environmental groups who protest, appeal and sue to prevent alternative energy alternatives. In my county, they have stopped geothermal, are currently protesting a cogeneration plant, and are pushing to rip out 4-5 hydroelectric dams on the Klamath. On the east coast, they are protesting wind farms and you know they absolutely hate nuclear energy.
We have tons of biomass we need to clean out of the Forests for forest health, fuel reduction and species diversity needs, yet no Democrat will lift a finger to support cellulosic alcohol technology, cogeneration plants at mills, or wood chip gassifier heating systems.
Here are Obama’s recent promises: http://www.ens-newswire.com/ens/nov2008/2008-11-05-091.asp
Oh, quit with the crocodile tears... Everybody knows that whenever there's a Commie takeover, the first order of business is the purges...
...in a clothes closet.
That would work..........
Jodi Seth, a Dingell spokeswoman, responded: "Tearing a leadership apart is something the Republicans should be doing after their big loss. It shouldn't be the first order of business for the Democrats after a historic election."The election shouldn't have gone Obama's way. What's "shouldn't" got to do with anything?
