Waxman attacks Dingell: Now it gets interesting for Democrats

California's Henry Waxman unleashed a surprise attack Wednesday against fellow Democrat John Dingell of Michigan.

Each wants to lead the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee; Dingell is now chairman.

The panel will be extremely important in 2009, when President Barack Obama unveils his plans to dramatically alter America's energy strategy.

Obama correctly wants to push renewables, something dear to Waxman's heart.

Dingell, on the other hand, has been a longtime supporter of the Big 3 auto companies. He succeeded for years in fending off congressional attempts to require higher fuel efficiency from U.S. vehicles.

In Waxman's attack against Dingell, he said in part: "The issues we will confront are immensely difficult. We will need the very best leadership in Congress and our committees to succeed.

"Enacting comprehensive energy, climate, and health care reform will not be easy. But my record shows that I have the skill and ability to build consensus and deliver legislation that improves the lives of all Americans."

Jodi Seth, a Dingell spokeswoman, responded:

"Tearing a leadership apart is something the Republicans should be doing after their big loss. It shouldn't be the first order of business for the Democrats after a historic election."

Dingell has a “rapport” with the automakers and the UAW that Waxman cannot match. He’s not a crazy environmental whack job like Waxman. At least Dingell knows that if the Big 3 and UAW goes down, his job is toast. Waxman hasn’t got that problem. He wants to intimidate them into making green crap nobody will buy................

...and the thing is, MI dems are about to be thrown under the bus (YET AGAIN!!!) along with the rest of us in the state. Either they are too stupid to realize it or too lazy to care. Crap sandwiches all around! Let them eat fecal de fois gras!

It is all rhetoric. When it comes down to where the rubber meets the road, it is the environmental groups who protest, appeal and sue to prevent alternative energy alternatives. In my county, they have stopped geothermal, are currently protesting a cogeneration plant, and are pushing to rip out 4-5 hydroelectric dams on the Klamath. On the east coast, they are protesting wind farms and you know they absolutely hate nuclear energy.

We have tons of biomass we need to clean out of the Forests for forest health, fuel reduction and species diversity needs, yet no Democrat will lift a finger to support cellulosic alcohol technology, cogeneration plants at mills, or wood chip gassifier heating systems.
