Posted on 11/06/2008 8:22:46 AM PST by Born Conservative
On the morning after Tuesday's historic election, two political heavyweights in Pennsylvania politics offered their take -- each from his own party's perspective.
Senior senator Arlen Specter (R-Pa., top right) and governor Ed Rendell (D, bottom right) appeared before the Committee of 70's post-election breakfast to offer commentary on the presidential election.
Specter conceded that Republican John McCain's White House bid was hampered by the economy and an unpopular president.
He says president-elect Barack Obama is likely to reach across the aisle when he actually begins to govern:

This shows he's either demented or an idiot....
Please find a Conservative in 2010, so we can get rid of Arlen.
Honestly if either Arlen Specter or Ed Rendell came out and said she was the future of the party I would immediately tell everyone to forget about her.
What do you mean 'either'?
Maybe not of their respective parties!!
These two giant tools open their mouth and crap just flows out. As a life long PA resident I say this with great certainty. Neither one of them would know a conservative principle if it bit them in the ass.
It remains to be seen exactly where Sarah fits in. She’s made of pretty tough stuff but may decide it’s not worth the bashing her family takes. Personally, I hope she’s with us for a long time.
Very true. Specter's blessing is a “kiss of death” if there ever was one for a Conservative...
The best way to know where the future of the Republican Party is to go in the exact opposite of whatever Arlen ("Scottish justice") Specter says. And why is the Gang of 70 dumb enough to take him seriously on this critical subject?
Since when is fast Eddie Rendell an analyst on the subject of the future of the republican party?
Does he see the black panther security guards in Philly and Louis Farrakhan and Chicago Bill Ayers/Saul Alinsky movement mentors as the future of the democrat party?
Someone ought to aks him.
Eddie was a Clintonite- his lips are gonna look botoxed from all the sucking up he’s going to be doing for the next couple of years
Pennsylvania, could you PLEASE get some conservativs into your state. Why don’t you begin encouraging small business in Penn instead of the wretched union garbage you now have.
The two are symptomatic of a need for major surgery.
If Fast Eddie and Specter are saying she’s not the future of the party, then that means she IS the future of the party. They are both slime-balls! Whatever they advise - we should do the opposite!
A Democrat and a RINO, just who we need to give us advice.
Worse are the McCain staffers hiding behind Carl Cameron to annonymously slime Sarah with outrageous claims of ignorance, as cover for their own failure. If these pukes won’t take responsibility for what they say, they should be ignored.
I have "news" for that pair of worthless trash - YOU'RE NOT FUTURE OF THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY EITHER!
Wasn’t Specter one of the people insisting that McCain was our only hope of winning? Well, he didn’t win so, why should we listen to him? Frankly, have we ever listened to him? So, why start now?
Congressman Billybob, you’re a lot smarter about this stuff than I am - but am I nuts in continuing to hope for a Conservative Party that would embody true conservative beliefs rather than hoping the Republican party eventually wakes up and smells the coffee?
The party of Arlen Specter, Chuck Hagel, and yes, John McCain may have worn the mantle of conservatism in the past but it’s fallen by the wayside now. I’m really having trouble giving a damn what Arlen Spector sees as the future of the Republican party as long as people like him are a part of it.
I realize that scratch-building a 3rd party wouldn’t be easy, but trying to change the GOP seems pretty much impossible...or am I being too harsh?
...said a man from the state with two rabidly leftist senators and a 61% Obama vote.
