Obama Reaches Out to Emanuel in First Step Toward Building Transition Team
Fox News ^ | 11/06/2008 | EagleUSA

With nearly two years of campaigning for the White House now behind him, President-elect Barack Obama has only 11 weeks to build an administration that will be ready to govern when he is sworn in on January 20.

It's an arduous task that will define Obama's presidency, and it will require a smooth transition with the Bush administration.

Obama took his first step in building his team on Wednesday when he offered Illinois Rep. Rahm Emanuel the job of White House chief of staff. Emanuel would not tell FOX News if he had been offered the job but said if he had, he has a lot to think about since he has just been re-elected and needs to consider his family and children before he makes any decision.

Among the challenges Obama's team will confront are the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and the $1.5 trillion budget deficit he will inherit from the current administration. For this reason, his nominee for Treasury Secretary will be viewed with greater scrutiny than usual, and will likely require a person with wide name recognition and credibility in business.

An Obama administration with Emmanuel as Chief of Staff, essentially virtual president, will be like the Mongol Hordes riding across the steppes...............

Of course, the Bush administration will assure a classy and graceful transition. We may disagree with many of the decisions that Bush has made, and we may lament this administration’s inability to articulate and implement conservative principles. But ultimately, Bush is a class act who absolutely LOVES his country. Liberals see grace as a weakness, and never ceased to excoriate the man. Bush invariably takes the high road, and I believe he was far too tepid and would not fight their fire with fire.

Despite the media downplaying it, I know from reliable sources that the Clinton Putsch did trash the Wite House and other government institutions when they left, and they helped to sabotage the transition. This is what the Che Guevera t-shirt clad left does.

The gushing hypocrisy is already starting. Emmanuel is one of the WORST non-partisans that even Clinton could find. And this is Obama’s idea of “reaching across the aisle”? As if he ever had any intention of doing that -— IMHO, his “cabinet” (note: politburo) will be very monolithic and as far to the left as he can make it....

So Obama managed to pick a Chief of Staff that has gotten both us freepers and the DUers mad. Wow.

At least Emanuel is a strong supporter of Israel. Imagine if he had picked someone like Kucinich for Chief of Staff. As Democrats go, Emanuel may not be that bad. I know, that’s faint praise, but just trying to be rational here. It’s not like Obama was going to appoint Sarah Palin to this job.

True, but she would not have anything to do with Obama or the job. Things could have been a bit worse...he could have chosen Bill Ayers....and the picks are not over yet.

They (Bush's team) would never do it because they're adults... but wouldn't it be delicious to have all of the “O”s mysteriously dissappear from every computer in the White House?

Wow, looks like Emanuel is playing hardball with the Messiah - holding out for more power and perks.

Even his cronies have the One pegged as a soft touch who needs them more they they need him. Does not bode well for the future.

Whoah there! That's like 'At least Gacy liked to cheer up little kids in the hospital'. Emanuel is one of the creepier, more ruthless characters in politics today. He is an extremely dangerous man, especially teamed up with Podesta, Axelrod, and whatever other worthies they find. Never trust that he has anything but bad intentions for you.

...Secretary of Education...

Contractor. He'll just keep dong what he's doing, but with $37,000,000,000,000.52 of federal funds to help out. Under the radar.

I’m just glad that neither Ayers nor anyone named Mohammed isn’t the chief of staff.
