Vichy Republicans Part Deux (the update):
Colin Powell
Ken Adelman
William Weld
Scot McClellan
Doug Kmiec
Chuck Hagel
Chris Shays
Doug Freid
Kevin Madden
David Frum
Kay Parker
David Brooks
Anne Applebaum
Christopher Hitchins
Frank Fukiyama
Peggy Noonan
Christoper Buckley
Nichole Wallace
Steve Schmidt
Mark McKinnon
Mike Smerconish
Ken Duberstein
Schmidt, Wallace and McKinnon sadly are former McCain/Palin 2008 staffers...
Feel free to add your own names to the list, these folks either attacked Sarah Palin visciously, or endorsed Obama.
And now they are anxious to work with the Obama/Democrats.
Hitchens is not a Republican. Good list though.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Was that supposed to be Francis Fukiyama? If so then I don't know if he was ever a Republican. He was a neo-conservative but many of the neocons were Democrats.
Won't make that call yet, but...
Hitchens was never a conservative. He’s a left-leaning, atheist libertarian. And more, he’s an asshole.
Good riddance, now we don't ever let them come back!
Ahh..that is true, in a way the NeoCons really are the losers in this election, they lost clout with Inside the Beltway Republicans, and the Dems hate them, but more or less, they acted like Republicans during the Bush years, so on the list some of them go.
Some, mind you, there is a sizable minority that did not turn on Governor Palin.
Here’s a vote for Condi Rice
Also, FWIW, there was a blurb on Boston.com about Weld running for Kerry’s senate seat should Kerry be named SOS. UNF*^#!KING BELIEVABLE!!! I have more respect for Barney Frank than Bill Weld...and that ain’t much.
Shays is gone.
He was a RINO, but I do believe he was the last person with an R behind his name in the Northeast in the House.
For the list, writers like Hitchens go on because they supported the war in Iraq, then pulled that support, and now attacked Governor Palin.
Funny how they all flock to the Anti-Christ
True, however when the media throws Republicans a bone and asks “What will it take for Republicans to win in the Northeast” in some 2 minute late night segment, Chris Shays will be the “guy” they go to..
Any Republican who reaches across the aisle should be kicked across the aisle!
I wouldn’t write the neocons off. They never had any constituency among the voter base in the first place but they came to dominate the last three Republican administrations (including Reagan’s).
What’s even more sad is....
I wonder how many of these names will be serving in Barry’s administration; surely to be lauded by the press as a sign of Dear Leader’s magnanimity by placing “solid” Republicans in positions of authority in his intellectually superior White House staff and cabinet.
I’ve got to start drinking more frequently if I’m going to survive the next 48 months.
well done....I have copied and will send out to my email list.....keep em coming....there are a lot out there hiding behind the flag !!
I don’t believe Hitchens is a Republican or a Neo-Con. He supported the Iraq War because his Commie Marxist buddies in Iraq were being suppressed and imprisoned and killed by Saddam. He wanted Saddam out so the Commies could take over Iraq.
My name is John McCain but everyone here calls me Vicky.
So glad to see Frum on the list.
To tell the truth, I’m beginning to think we should add most of National review to that list. They were rather useless this election. ( I often wondered if Ponnoru even knew there was an election coming up when he was in the midst of one of his intellectual msturbation sessions...and that pantywaist handwringer Rich Lowry....and that lightweight KLO....definitely not my father’s NR)
And your point is????
If that is the case then I suggest that this is an opportunity for some REAL conservatives to RUN against the Democrats.
This is an OPPORTUNITY!!! There have GOT to be some TRUE conservative up there that can articulate the CORE reasons that they are the best choice for office.
I would suggest the addition of Lindsey Graham (D) South Carolina to your list.
.
I’d add Pawlenty, based on an after-election interview in which he declined to defend conservative principles.
Let’s keep this going....they are not RINO’s they are Vichy collaborators.
I started on this quest to change RINO to Vichy last weekend and am gratified that it is taking root.
The new RNC Chairman, and there BETTER be a new one, should have a sit down face to face with each of these individuals and make it clear that they will not receive one red cent from the Republican Party for campaigns, expenses, anything, until they adequately explain why they have faile dto support the party and it’s ideals.
He finally got his wish: He IS Miss Congeniality now!
Larry Pressler
Just think how high the GOP would be regarded if they had objected when Bush decided to take out Saddam instead of bin Laden.
I do believe you are correct, Doug is a different person.
Jonah Goldberg makes NRO worthwhile, he is my new favorite columnist, I don’t bother with the other writers..
Sorry perdogg, I have not heard of the man, I’ll add him to the next update though.
Don’t forget that crybaby George Voinovich.
Vidkun Quisling could be the subtitle?
Interesting where Vichy Republican originated from:
http://homepage.mac.com/cptchaz/iblog/C772840844/E20070125215055/index.html
“In the past, such feckless actions would earn said GOP members the label “RINO”, as in “Republican in Name Only”. However, given the current wartime circumstances, I think that they would be better referred to as “Vichy Republicans”
Very appropriate, there are two wars ongoing, the Vichy have endorsed the one candidate who pledged to cut and run out of Iraq and offered addled brained policy in Afghanistan, and has made it a point to defund our Missile Defense Deployment in Europe.
Elizabeth Hasselbeck
George Allen Jr.
A former Republican Senate colleague of McCain, Larry Pressler, joined the growing list of cross-over voters by announcing that he had cast his ballot for Obama.
I just got the feeling that Obama will be able to handle this financial crisis better, Pressler said in a statement explaining his decision to vote for a Democratic presidential candidate for the first time in his life.
I just hate to go against someone I served with in the Senate. I voted and I got it mailed and I dropped it in the mailbox, and it tore at me to do that, said Pressler, who served in the Senate from 1979 to 1997.
In addition to casting the absentee ballot for Obama, Pressler said hed donated 500 dollars to the Illinois senators campaign.”
Ahh...another one for the head shaving!
Mez Amis, Larry Pressler...Vichy Republican.
I'm noticing the trend; something in the Kool Aid, I guess.
Gordon Smith is no great loss. Another example of a Republican who was afraid to be a Republican, like Ms. Lincoln Chaffee. Oregon decided to elect a real Democrat instead of having pretend one.
Voinovich?
I thought he just cried on the Senate floor, lost to Sherrod Brown, and disappeared, did he resurface and attack Governor Palin like some deranged jellyfish?
Blinders, and denial of Jesus Christ. When you deny Jesus, you fall prey to Satan.
Mike Murphy too
Good call, Murphy was Noonan’s partner in slime in that off air stuff.
M<y friends in Cleveland tell me he’s planning a return to politics, possibly a house run against Kucinich.
This needs to be nipped in the bud. GV needs permanently exiled from public life, period.
I’ve detested that man since his attacks meltdown over John Bolton.
Please do not purchase any book written by any of these people. Please do not purchase any publication that contains anything written by any of these people. We should not be willing in any way to help financially support these folks.
I am sure that my refusal to purchase the Wall Street Journal because it runs Peggy Noonan’s garbage will not hurt either the WSJ or Noonam, but I’ll be damned if I will in any way knowingly support any of these folks.
While you’re at it, don’t forget that deranged gasbag Michael Weiner, a/k/a Savage.
He ranted for weeks about Palin after McCain chose her and proselytized ad nauseum for Romney.
Your list is flaky!
I like Chris Hitchens, but he is a commie and always has been as far as I know.
I can understand Powell and Rice’s position. The rest, well, all tired and worn out.
