Billy Graham Won't Advise Obama, Mentions His Strong Pro-Abortion Position
Life News ^ | 11/7/08 | Steven Ertelt

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Respected Christian preacher Billy Graham has been an advisor and spiritual helper to presidents dating back to President Eisenhower. But that relationship with presidents will end in part because incoming president Barack Obama takes such a profoundly pro-abortion position.

To be sure, Graham's health is the main reason for the decision, his son Franklin Graham told the Associated Press.

"My father feels like his time and day for that is over," Franklin Graham said. "But he would certainly like to meet (Obama) and pray with him."

But Franklin expressed concerns about Obama's abortion position -- something he mentioned to the senator during the campaign as a problem.

He told AP the Bible is clear in its teaching that human life deserves respect and protection even before birth.

"President-elect Obama heard our position," Franklin Graham told the news service. "And I told him that this was very difficult for us and hard for us. It's a moral issue that we just can't back down on."

"But he's our president-elect, and those positions that he holds that are contrary to Biblical teaching, I hope that God will change his heart," Graham added.

Obama's position in favor of unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy for any reason was a key issue for pro-life voters during the campaign.

Obama also came under fire for supporting the so-called Freedom of Choice Act, a Congressional bill that would make unlimited abortions under Roe v. Wade the national law and overturn the abortion reduction laws of all 50 states.

The senator also drew condemnation for his votes in the Illinois state legislature against a bill that would have made sure newborns who survive failed abortions receive appropriate medical care.

This is one issue that really upsets me, how could so many Catholics turn their backs on the unborn? Thank God Billy Graham has the courage to state his convictions.

Excellent decision,Rev Graham. Not that an atheist like Osama would have listened to a word you said.

Funny that the “word” comes from Franklin and not Billy himself. I seriously doubt Dr. Graham would do that and would be working with Obama if nothing more than to soften his heart.

I heard Franklin Graham say that Obama was scheduled to meet his father when Obama was in Ashville preparing for the debate. He said Billy Graham had to cancel for health reasons. That was on WBT radio this morning.

Well my ridiculous family, that is in church all of the time, voted for this horrible man. I have tried to discuss this issue and the response was, “Bush killed men in Iraq...” These people were baptized and raised Catholic. Apparently to them abortion is not an issue, and I am talking about people over age forty.

As a resident of Massachusetts,a state that's said to be something like 66% Catholic,I can personally attest to the fact that on any given Sunday there are many folks sitting in Catholic churches who are,in fact,Unitarian/Universalists.

I think people attend church because they think it is the Catholic way to heaven. Just go to church and confession and you have it made, makes me ill!

Good on the Reverends Graham. But I don’t think B. Hussein Obama is really interested in what a Christian minister says.

I think people have been anesthetized to evil—all ages but especially younger people. They are inured to it. They embrace it. They baste in it. They make it their friend. The stink is all over them, but they are so used to it they can’t even smell it any more.

Repenting of your Clinton years, Billy? Funny you’d find BO problematic but still refer to the Clintons as your friends and socialize with them - even to the extent of accepting their sham claims of Christianity.

Do we have some of the same family members?

The Bush/Iraq argument is really weak. Those brave men and women volunteered to defend their country. They knew of the dangers when they signed up for service---(God bless them all). Their lives should be respected and their deaths mourned. Babies in the womb did not volunteer to be wiped out just for the convenience of someone who does not wish to be responsible.

Now they know they have an ally in Obama, and that he is weak in fact and in appearance. They “like” him, but they don’t respect him. As a result, he will likely overreact to any challenge to prove his “manhood” and get us clobbered over the head. Democrat Socialists/Marxists are suicidal I think and drunk on power. Dangerous combination.

So where were the Grahams during the campaign? I know many Billy Graham followers who are Bama supporters, so I guess this was only a closed door operation.
