Graham: Tainted GOP lost to Obama's positive view

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said Friday the GOP lost the White House because the party was tainted by corruption, overspending and "sometimes came across as a bunch of grumpy old men."

. . . . .

"All we have to do is go back to the basics of fiscal conservatism, with a smile and come up with new ways to communicate with the younger voter," said Graham, who captured 58 percent of the vote in winning re-election against a little-known opponent.

"I don't believe they are all liberal," Graham said. "I think they were attracted to his positive message and we sometimes came across as a bunch of grumpy old men. We have got to knock that off."

No #%(@%, Sherlock! How long did it take you to figure that out?!!!

My husband and I voted against him in the primary. I cannot understand why he won it. Maybe because we have an “open” primary system? *shrugs*

I love SC (am a transplant from Florida), but the open primaries here have got to go!

Graham should have said he will watch Obama closely for us, and prevent him from destroying this country.

THAT is the headline the public should see.

WHY ARE REPUBLICANS ALWAYS KISSING DEM ARSE?

Umm...yeah. First thing we need to do is cleanse the party of Senators that only get 58% of the vote against unknown opponents, vote for all the big gov't spending programs and talk about new ways of communicating with younger voters.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Conley ran on $25K-$30K.

Conley came out of nowhere. He is more conservative than Graham. And, he ran without the support of the Democratic Party, financial or otherwise.

The conservatives are coming for you in 2014, Lindsey, if Rahm doesn't get you first.

That's your buddy John McCain you're talking about there, Lindsay.
Some friend you are!

And the GOP is mostly tainted because of Bush, McCain, and Graham's amnesty scheme.
Why don't these guys figure out that naturalizing 25 million illegal aliens means a permanent Democrat majority and the wholesale looting of our national treasury by Mexico?

The fundamental message is that the government is not very good at anything it does. The secondary message is that the government pisses people off constantly. The third part is that the unintended consequences of anything the government does are a myriad of special interest considerations from a preference for union labor to racial and gender quotas to expensive programs concerning social justice, safety beyond the bounds of probability, to pork and set-asides. The government needs to get out of the business of how we raise our kids and out of the business of local education in every way. The government does a decent job with the armed forces, a fair job with weather forecasts, a tolerable job in foreign relations, and for the rest of it they are clueless and confused. Fire most of them and save megabucks. If there is anything worth doing that would be left undone, the private sector will take care of it, or the state and local governments can do it better than the feds and with more sensitivity to local wants and needs. Good enough for government work once meant quality workmanship, craftsmanship or skill. What does it mean now?

BS

The reasons they lost were:

Nobody likes a tough long war, even Winston Churchill was fired after a great successful war.

I fault Bush for not defending himself more against the Democrats attack on the war, soldiers and the President.
What stopped President Bush from using the pulpit of his office?

The economy tanked along with banks in the last 6 weeks and the voters were too dumb to find out it was Democrats that caused it all. So instead of firing Democrats, they hired more and a new Democrat President.

The voters were too lazy, just pointed at President Bush for everything and left out all truth and history.

The other issue is the press. They should be considered an arm of the Democrat party and Republicans should be allowed to get free equal time in their papers and TV shows to respond IMO.

Great idea. The next RNC chairman should be dedicated to removing the first primary from NH. I don’t think he would get very far on that point, however, as Republicans think they must have NH, but it is Democrat now and likely to remain so.

It’s amazing how many Republicans fail to study and follow Ronald Reagan’s great example - here we have the most important figure of our lifetimes, a highly successful R. president, and most in the party fail to study his speeches, ideas, and methods.

Hell, even his immediate successor, George H.W. Bush, acted as though he were not living in the shadow of the greatest President of our lifetimes — so Bush resumed his RINO ways and got defeated by a lying huckster from Arkansas with a trail of bimbo eruptions.

Every Republican should be required to study, discuss, and analyze everything that brought success to President Reagan.
