America Held Hostage- the Obama Files...

With a hattip to Rush ( His idea during the Clinton plague upon America ) I am starting a file on “The One,” mostly starting from the election date.

Older stuff- links, quotes, quips, and sometimes pointed graphics can be found by scrolling back from these two posts:

-Hillary Clinton- archives, comments, and opposition research--

-Sarah Palin- links, from the beginning--

There is some good material in those posts that raises a lot of uncomfortable questions that everyone ought to be asking, and probably will once the “new” wears off, and we are stuck with four ( more likely eight, since 95% of the news & entertainment media are in his pocket ) years of a typical corrupt Chicago Political Machine Politician trying to jerk the whole country in one direction and then the next.

You've all heard the saying,

”People get the kind of government they want...
...and deserve?”

Well, America, you are about to “get it, good & hard...”

Don't say you weren't warned- we tried to tell you...

We did everything we could, and our state went for the Old Guy & the Naughty Librarian, but too many other voters were made stupid by the TV and public schools for it to matter.

We're in a Hell of a mess, and the worst thing is, "we"- the collective we, not you & I-- got us here.

Is Obama really the Abyss...

staring back at us?

I like to make points with humorous graphics- this one sums it up as well as any:

Then, in a nutshell, "everything I see going bad with all this hopi- changi- stuff The One is peddling-- forced labor, censorship, spin, and pure mean-spirited rudness:

Email of the day

Atlas readers rock! I am blown away by the overwhelming response to this post  (and this one) to get involved to take back our country from the Soros, socialists, and the self proclaimed messiah - oy. More than one email brought a tear to my eye but I wanted to share this one with you.

If this best represents who we are, what we want and where we are going, there is no way we can lose. Greatness is in the house. I am proud to count you as my friends. Prouder still to stand with you and fight this great fight.

I want to lead a county.

I was born in Cuba, and know the language of Communism, Obama speaks it well.  My grandfather's family had to flee Lebanon because of the Muslims to Cuba. We fled Cuba because of Castro.

This is the best country in the whole wide world.  I was a child when I left Cuba with the clothe on my back, we left my parent's sister and I, left behind everything.

America is Worth fighting for and Freedom is worth defending.  I do not want my children to grow up in oppression, nor do I wish exile upon them.

Please allow me to help, again, Id like to lead a county.

My name is Ingrid and Im in Miami, in Miami Dade County

May the Light always shine upon America,

Ingrid

UPDATE: In case there was any doubt as to what the victorious zombies have in mind. Check out this comment (left in the comment section) . Can you say rude awakening?

You people are pathetic!

Your racist fear mongering will not go unchallenged!  Soon we will shut down your hate spewing web sites.  We will confiscate your firearms.  In prison, you will get an education on the error of your ways.  We will take your children and raise them as our own and instill in them the values of social justice.  We will have a new American Republic of justice and order for all!

You time is almost up!  Prepare for the dung heap of history!

It sounds insane (which it is) but I believe the writer is quite serious.

"We will confiscate your firearms. In prison, you will get an education on the error of your ways. We will take your children and raise them as our own and instill in them the values of social justice".....

Heh heh heh....I am sure you are serious, but that is funny!

Values of social justice....like Mao? Stalin? Lenin? Ho-chi Min? Pol Pot? Which of these butchers of social justice did you have in mind?"

170,000,000
That's the number of civilians that have been murdered by their own governments in the 20th century alone.

Innocents Betrayed is a must see video produced by Jews for the Preservation of Firearms (scroll down to see links to view the Introduction to Innocents Betrayed)

Now consider Obama's 'civilian defense force' which he intends to fund and equip as well as our standing military coupled with his promise to revisit the second amendment (repeal concealed carry privilege) and then compound this injury with Ayers' inspired youth corps.

CHANGE.GOV OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT ELECT (hat tip rut)

Obamessiah has a new site up as President-elect soliciting ideas form the proletariat.
Let's hope it doesn't become the hub for the hate whitey and Jew boy Obamavomit that his last site was.

Surf the site. Take note. Keep your eye on the The Obama National Service Plan- the page is empty (how apropos) but that piques my interest.

President Obama To Bring Back Slavery

Just in case anyone think Mr. Obama is not serious about this, bear in mind that his new Chief of Staff wrote a book demanding this very thing:

Amazon.com: The Plan: Big Ideas for America: Rahm Emanuel, Bruce Reed: Books
http://www.amazon.com/Plan-Big.....038;sr=1-1

Don’t forget they want a Gestapo/KKK civilian force the size of the pentagon to keep everybody inline and things running smoothly.

“Suddenly, all mention of “required” has been disappeared. ”

SOME THOUGHTS ON OBAMA'S mandatory volunteerism plan. Plus, reader Nancy Anne Potts writes:

Looks like the change.gov site is true to it's title - it changes!

During the time when I was looking at the blog you linked to concerned mandatory community service the change.gov page saying "require community service" changed to goal for community service. The new wording is:

"..... Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free."

I found the the cached page on Google it has the original "required" wording.

Looks like they caught their "mistake". Now will the real plan please step forward -- goal or required. (Although the way government sets goals, they often wind up looking like requirements so maybe the two aren't all that different.)

Ugh! I see card check made the economy page too. He may be the president elect but I don't have to like his plans!

Not until the second term. Then that will be made mandatory, too . . . .

Meanwhile, Robert Bidinotto comments: "Anyone recall what the Soviets used to do to history books?" The Obama folks have a history of airbrushing.

IF YOU VOTED FOR MCCAIN, you're a racist. Just in case nobody had bothered to tell you.

President-elect Barack Obama's First Press Conference - Complete Video 11/7/08

Obama Mocks Nancy Reagan in 1st Press Conference

It's  classless to mock a frail, elderly woman. (Note he was not kind in his revelation about his own "typical white person" grandmother, either.)

It's even worse to mock the widow of a great former president. Whatever you think of her, she deserves respect.

Especially classless was mocking Nancy Reagan on stage, before hundreds of reporters and television cameras, knowing the "joke" would be heard by millions. This wasn't some private remark that got picked up by a live mike.

On Concerns Over Gun Control, Gun Sales Are Up

From "Change.gov", the official transition website. Agenda tab and then select "urban policy" and go down to "Crime Control".

Address Gun Violence in Cities:
As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

There will be no one left to protect you
Barack Obama wants to institute a Civilian National Security Force, a vast militia not unlike Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, a personal army. He knows he would need such a force to protect him and to enforce his will on Americans. Americans will have not seen such arbitrary power used against them since the days of the Civil War when Lincoln put the Constitution in the bottom drawer of his desk and set about arresting anyone who opposed his policies...

Hmmmm... this one is very difficult. I was in the military, and we were taught we salute the uniform, not the man. So I respect the office, not the man. However, I am adopting a wait and see. If Obama governs as if he cares about America, even if we disagree, I can accept that. If Obama governs as I expect, like a Manchurian candidate who is bent on America’s deconstruction, that is when he will disqualify himself as being my president.

An array of other advocacy groups are stepping forward with their priorities for the new Congress.

Barack Obama: The Kingfish Reborn

Do Unto Obama As Liberals Did Unto Bush

Coal stocks plummet. Average 15%, many over 30% since Tuesday Gee, wonder why?

Kate, this is important and you should listen to it. It's about Obama's cult of personality and it is short.

From the blogs- and, always, read the Anchoress:

Bush, Obama, & Ghosts of Hate - UPDATED

“The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country.” Lincoln’s Second Annual Message to Congress, December 1, 1862.

I would love nothing better than to be able to stop writing about “left” and “right.” I wish we had a better vocabulary to describe our distinctions, because these words are limiting and off-putting. I am determined, with the merciful conclusion of this abusively long election season, to work diligently at spending less time entertaining these distinctions. But for today, I think it is only fair to note a very important and glaring difference between “left and right” - and in so doing - consider how we may, finally, stop needing to indulge in what is tedious.

Victor Davis Hanson
says Let’s not imitate the left in our opposition. I agree.

It has been wonderful - really beyond wonderful - to consider how differently most of the right has reacted to their defeat than the left did in 2000 and 2004. In the two previous elections, the left responded by calling the other half of the country “stupid,” “morons,” and “Nazis” - Jane Smiley called them “unteachably ignorant” - they indulged in high drama, sniffling “apologies” to the globe, and denunciations of their fellow countrymen as “lying between repugnant and reptile in the dictionary.”

And oh, yeah (eyeroll) George W. Bush was not “their” president.

While you’ll see a few disgruntled extremists on the right say foolish, even ignorant things - and many throwing daggers at the sickening double-standards of the press - they’re not indulging in that sort of dehumanizing (and very adolescent) hate of their fellow countrymen or the president-elect. The reports they’re filing read very differently than those following the Bush wins. They read as grown-up, tolerant, open-minded discourses, not tantrums. There is a willingness to be hopeful, even in defeat.

And there is a determined respectfulness being offered to the winners - people who could not manage maturity and respectfulness in their defeat and who, sadly, are not always managing it in their victory, either.

I’m hopeful that the left - if it takes the time to actually condescend to notice how well it is being treated by the vanquished - might consider that self-indulgent defamation is the lesser way; that such a consideration may inspire introspection, and perhaps the smallest bit of regret for some of their appalling excesses toward the right and toward the American President who did not return hate in-kind.

I’m hopeful. I’m an optimist. I KNOW that the folks on the right - for all of their faults, and both sides certainly have faults - want America to be successful and strong and exceptional and free. I’m hopeful that hugely empowered left will discover that - beyond the feel-goodism of “free social programs” which are never free -they actually, really do want all of those things, too. That they’ll look back on the last 8 years and realize, finally, that their enemy was never George W. Bush. Bush, the guy who never dehumanized them, was only trying serve those corny ideals.

And then, miraculously, we may actually have unity.

Some similar thinking from my girl crush, Donna Brazile:

“The one mistake that we continue to make is that we label people. We say you’re conservatives, liberal, progressive, right wing, left wing. I think people just want to spend one day being Americans. They want to come together around a common purpose, common values.”

I wondered the other day if the catharsis of this election might open up “a vein of generosity” (or at least decency) from the left as concerns President Bush. I have not seen it yet, but I’m going to be optimistic and keep looking.

But maybe it’s enough just to see a little appreciation from the right, to start. Like this, for instance:

I link, therefore, I Err has a little mini-round-up of appreciation for George W. Bush. You’ll want to read it all.

From Alppuccino at Protein Wisdom:

At 10:40, President Bush will keep his streak alive by telling everyone how much he loves America. Just as he always has. And he’ll show everyone how much he loves America by preparing Obama as best he can for the next 4 years.

Read it all; it’s doubtful that Obama’s team will come into the White House finding O’s missing from their keyboards, any rude messages greeting them. And that is how it should be in America, a respectful transition.

Michael Gerson:

Many liberals refuse to concede Bush’s humanity, much less his achievements.

But that humanity is precisely what I will remember. I have seen President Bush show more loyalty than he has been given, more generosity than he has received. I have seen his buoyancy under the weight of malice and his forgiveness of faithless friends. Again and again, I have seen the natural tug of his pride swiftly overcome by a deeper decency — a decency that is privately engaging and publicly consequential.

[In 2005]…the White House senior staff overwhelmingly opposed a new initiative to fight malaria in Africa for reasons of cost and ideology…In the crucial policy meeting, one person supported it: the president of the United States, shutting off debate with a moral certitude that others have criticized. I saw how this moral framework led him to an immediate identification with the dying African child, the Chinese dissident, the Sudanese former slave, the Burmese women’s advocate. It is one reason I will never be cynical about government — or about President Bush.

Jeffery Scott Shapiro:

[The treatment of President Bush] from this country is nothing less than a disgrace. The attacks launched against him have been cruel and slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve we have…Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can be when our president needed loyalty — a shameful display of arrogance and weakness that will haunt this nation long after Mr. Bush has left the White House.

Until we fix, within ourselves, our enthrallment with hate for others, simply because they hold differing views, we’ll never pull it together. In 2006 we watched a right-wing blogger be called less than human by a left-wing reader. We’ve seen President Bush being referred to as “the chimp” and “the monkey” by the wits who insisted that ideology trumped having a decent respect for another’s humanity. I wrote about that a little here:

Thus, George W. Bush is “Chimpy McHitler.” Hillary Clinton is “a pig in a pantsuit.” Barack Obama is “O-Bambi.” Cindy McCain, who has exhibited some courage and laudable compassion in her life, is reduced to a “pill-popping beer-frau,” and so forth. From there it is smooth sailing down an ever-descending river of hatred, until we are incapable of seeing anything good in the “other,” both because we have willfully hardened our hearts, and because our hate — especially when it is supported by a group of like minds — feels safe and inviolable.

With that in mind, you’ll want to read this excellent piece over at Conversion Diary, wherein Jenifer ponders pictures from a Nazi-era photo album and wonders, how such common-variety people managed to support and enable such profound evil.

One thing that stands out in all these examples is that the victims of the widespread evil were categorized as something less than human…not only that innocent people were killed or enslaved, but that their humanity was taken away by the societies around them…So here is the advice I would offer to my children, and to my children’s children:

Every decade or so, take a look around the society in which you live, and ask yourself if there is any group of human beings who are seen as something less than human. A big tipoff is if dehumanizing words — terms other than “man,” “woman,” “child,” “baby,” or “person” — are used to describe any category of people.

And if you ever see that going on, you might be in the midst of something gravely evil.

Dehumanizing people begins with baby-steps like name-calling, or the sort of intellectual dishonesty that delights in deliberately twisting the meaning of others in negative and misrepresentative ways. Those are the little gateways to the great evils that come once you’ve managed to thoroughly de-humanize others.

We’ve had 8 years - I’d say 12, really - of people demonizing and dehumanizing others, from both sides, and it is not getting us anyplace good. I believe that the response of most of the right to Obama’s victory is a step toward changing that. But the left has to do their part, too.

Pope Benedict XVI said, “those who hope live differently.” The election of Barack Obama was borne on this word, “Hope.”

If the people who voted for “hope” were sincere, then let them begin, today, to embrace it - and to live differently - without the kneejerk move to hate “the other side.” The right, responding levelly to their defeat, has offered the opening. Will the left take it?

UPDATE: Seems some will. Here is mostly accurate, and apprecited praise from a surprising quarter:

Would America have elected Barack Obama if white Americans had not gotten accustomed to seeing (in succession) two African-American Secretaries of State? I don’t think so. Before Bush, African-Americans were appointed to some good posts but not to our #1 foreign policy job. Two African Americans (one with a pretty odd first name) served as America’s face to the world. That eased Obama’s way. It is not Tiger Woods in whose footsteps Obama is walking — it’s Rice and Powell….Fact is, “W” never gave any evidence of holding racist attitudes…even just the slur the occasionally slips out of the mouth of even our most liberal leaders.

Same with Arabs and Muslims…Bush, after 9/11, never resorted to anti-Arab or Muslim stereotypes. He drew distinctions between terrorists and Arabs…Had he not done these things, Arabs and Muslims might have experienced not just hate crimes but pogroms.

Meanwhile, from Grand Rants:

Here is a man who is regularly compared to Hitler in casual conversation in Leftist circles high and low. His honor has been regularly impugned, his intelligence (or, as the press loves to put it, his “intellectual curiousity”) constantly demeaned, his verbal stumblings consistently mocked, and his accomplishments in office discounted or ignored. He is a man who kept his head down and did his job, despite the slings and arrows hurled at him by fortune made all the more outrageous by nearly the entire Democratic party.

I for one, would like to say thank you to Pres. Bush. For keeping us safe. For watching out for us. For persevering in spite of all the spite. I believe history will ultimately judge you as one of America’s best presidents, and I believe you deserve that judgement.

H/T to Opinionated Catholic, who writes:

The throwing under the bus of the President by even his friends and indeed the base has been shocking to me. Many groups will find out soon enough how they took Bush’s support and advocacy for them for granted, Catholics, especially.

Meanwhile, Jules Crittenden is beginning to enjoy Omerica, Quin Hillyer is saying America is over, kaput, finished, Evan Thomas suddenly finds Obama “slightly creepy” and when you refuse to release medical records, and the press doesn’t care…conjecture begins about your mental health.

Forty-Fourth President, Twelfth Imam

by Baron Bodissey

O-Man’s Fibonacci spiral haloThe election results were long expected, but now that the day has arrived it’s quite a letdown, anyway. Reading about the joy expressed by Hamas and Syria and Italy and Indonesia… contemplating Obama’s Secretary of State, or (God help us) Defense… Thinking about the USA becoming just like Sweden, only with a real army, and aircraft carriers, and nukes… First Lady Michelle…

It’s all too depressing.

So, as is my habit in such circumstances, instead of writing a post this evening or doing something else useful, I created yet another iconic image of The One. After looking around at some of his existing halos, I decided to make one myself. A man can’t have too many halos, right?

And then I pondered the phenomenon of halos appearing behind the heads of great national leaders, men who are born into modest Muslim circumstances, but in time become presidents of large countries that have nuclear weapons. It made me think of…
- - - - - - - - -
Mad Jad’s HaloMahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Ol’ Mad Jad got his halo when he went to visit the UN a couple of years ago. It appeared behind his head while he was speaking. Not only that, his audience was held in such rapt attention by his words that they were unable to blink for thirty minutes. We know all this is true because he told us so.

I wonder how many other resemblances there are between him and Barack Hussein Obama.

Ahmadinejad sees himself as preparing the way for the Twelfth Imam, as a sort of satanic John the Baptist for the man who is prophesied to return and usher in the apocalypse preceding the establishment of the permanent reign of Islam over the entire world.

And Obama’s got a bigger halo.

Does that mean…? Nah — it couldn’t be… But still… It makes me wonder…

What if the One were also the Twelfth?

Note to the literal-minded: this post is for fun, not to be taken seriously. Given the circumstances, it’s the only fun I’m likely to have for quite a while.

We may have to set up a “Free Republic in Exile” like Degaulle did when the Nazis overran France, but we’ll manage.

Some realistic things to expect early in the Obama Administration

I work in Chicago. I deal with a great many attorneys in my job, many of whom are staunch Dims and breathless Obambi supporters; some were even active in his campaign. More than one told me that at or near the top of Obambi’s agenda is a new Hate Crimes bill, with a wide expansion of what will be considered a hate crime

Didn't you notice that Obama is a conservative?  "Obama is, in his own words, something of a Rorschach test. I kept telling people when Bill Clinton slithered in to office, and clung to it, despite all the scandals, and Impeachment itself-- “He's just a symptom. Like a fever is of a disease- there's something wrong with America.”

Like Popular Culture- look at the magazines-- I call it “thugs & jugs,” or “which Pop Tart is popping out whose baby this week?”

I just don't know how to call which way things will go, or what- if anything-- we can do, no matter what.

The arrogant behavior tells you a lot about politicians- normally even the worst listen to blocks of voters-- there has to be a reason they are confident they can ignore them.

Maybe it's vote fraud, maybe it's naturalizing 20-36 million illegal aliens ( who will bring along at least one more adult and a few children ), maybe it's realizing that once HealthScare has the power of life & death, people will be beholden and cowed. Maybe it's banking on the pure oppressive nature of the government, which in my opinion is becoming downright fascist.

DamnifIknow, anymore. Miss Emily & I are at sea, trying to figure out how to support ourselves, and survive personally.

I sure hope something turns up, to turn us around, because the direction we are going scares me to near to death....

It just beats the snot out of me, What To Do Next?  The Republicans really are The Stupid ( and cowardly, and corrupt ) Party-- the Dems, Evil, and too clever by half with our American Idol/Survivor! worshipping voters.

Far too many people are content if they get fed, laid, and entertained regularly-- they can't see the train wreck coming when all the bills come due, or "we run out of other people's money..."

In my own family, my wife was a near-fanatical Sarah supporter from the first time she heard her speak ( I had been rooting for her for some time, but never mentioned it )-- her brother?

An O-bot from the start. Businessman, father, not a bad guy, but a middle-aged hippy at heart, he'll never admit his sole reason was "making me feel good about myself by voting for the cool new black dude."

Even he seems to sense something amiss-- at Christmas dinner, he was rambling on about the lack of transparency and "we don't know who the Secretary of State even is...."
( Yeah, I know- can't he read? )
I take this as "realizing I may have been fooled, but I really won't admit it."

Still, two siblings, same family, same educational background-- poles apart.

Much like the damn country.

I wish we could break it up into

1)- Nanny-staters who want the government to take care of them, and
2)- the rest of us, who just want to be left alone-- Hell, I'd embrace the gays & dopers if they were on board with that...

But unfortunately, the former group has to have the latter's money, so it is not likely. Damn it.

Terrorist Attempt Update: Bomb Was Incendiary, Comprised of Mixed Liquids; Obama Only Notified Three Hours After Incident

—Ace

AHFF Geoff noticed the WaPo editing its story to help Obama a touch.

First the article read:

A White House official said the incident was an attempted act of terrorism. The FBI is investigating and President Obama, celebrating Christmas in Hawaii, was told of the incident about three hours after the plane landed, officials said.

Well, we can't have Captain Wonderful being mocked like Bush was. So the new sentence:

The FBI is investigating the incident. President Obama, celebrating Christmas in Hawaii, was informed about it, a spokesman said, and he asked his aides to ensure that all measures are in place to provide security for air travel.

Elsewhere in the story they do say...

Obama was alerted to Friday's incident between 9 and 9:30 a.m. in Hawaii, which is five hours behind the East Coast.

...which still works out to a two to two and a half hour delay in informing the Savior of Man, but now they make you work out the math on your own.

I think Obama's people called and demanded the edit, don't you?

More:

A Nigerian man, claiming to be linked to al-Qaeda, allegedly tried to set off an incendiary device aboard a transatlantic airplane Friday as it descended toward Detroit's airport in what the White House called an attempted act of terrorism.

The man was quickly subdued after another passenger leapt on top of him, others on the plane said, and Northwest Airlines Flight 253 from Amsterdam landed safely around 1 p.m. Friday. The suspect was being treated at a hospital for burns he suffered while igniting the device...

The suspect[,] Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab[,] 23, attends University College London, where he studies engineering.

Although not on the TSA's "no-fly" list, Abdulmutallab's name appears to be included in the government's records of terrorism suspects, according to a preliminary review, authorities said.

Abdulmutallab has told federal investigators that he had ties to al-Qaeda and traveled to Yemen to collect the incendiary device and instructions on how to use it, according to a federal counterterrorism official briefed on the case. Authorities have yet to verify the claim, and they expect to conduct several more interviews before they determine whether he is credible, the official said.

Federal authorities have been told that Abdulmutallab allegedly had taped some material to his leg, then used a syringe to mix chemicals with the powder while on the airplane, one official said.

But doing so "caused him to catch on fire," Richelle Keepman, who sat a few rows in front of Abdulmutallab, told WDIV-TV.

...

Officials described the device as incendiary rather than explosive, pending tests by forensics experts at the FBI. Incendiary devices generally deliver less of an impact than explosive devices.

I blew this story off because Hot Air was reporting that officials were walking it back and calling the device mere "firecrackers."

This seems pretty far from the truth, and it doesn't seem like an error someone would make.

So I'd really like to know who the hell started putting out the word to the media that this was just a matter of some "firecrackers."

AHFF Geoff also notes the three hour gap that went missing in the WaPo piece also shows up in a Politico article:

White House spokesman Bill Burton said President Obama, on vacation in Hawaii, was informed of the incident about three hours after the plane landed.

He (Geoff) points out the possibility of multiple attacks, possibly requiring fast reaction. So why was the President allowed to snooze in Hawaii undisturbed?

I'm trying to not get too partisan about this, but it sure seems to me that this evidences a casualness about terrorist incidents that seems pretty dangerous.

TERRORIST THREAT LEVEL RAISED! All the way from "Don't Worry, Be Happy" to "Hakuna Matada."

5 Thanks for the update, ace. The right should consider playing the lefts' game of "investigations" into terrorism preparedness, when Obama knew and who else knew what, how/when he reacted...

Muslim Tried To Blow Up Plane To Detroit

December 25th, 2009

From ABC News:

[AP caption: This picture provided by J.P. Karas shows Northwest Airlines Flight 253 on the runway after arriving at Detroit Metropolitan Airport from Amsterdam on Friday, Dec. 25, 2009. Man Attempts to Set Off Explosives on Plane

Two Injured in Northwest Airlines Flight from Amsterdam to Detroit

By RICHARD ESPOSITO and SCOTT MAYEROWITZ
Dec. 25, 2009

Federal officials and police are interviewing a Nigerian man, who allegedly tried to "explode" a powdery substance aboard a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit, injuring himself and two other passengers, law enforcement officials said.

The man said he was directed by al Qaeda to explode a small device in flight, over U.S. soil, ABC News has learned. Authorities have no corroboration of that information and the credibility of the suspect’s statements are being questioned, officials said.

"The subject is claiming to have extremist affiliation and that the device was acquired in Yemen along with instructions as to when it should be used," a federal situational awareness bulletin added.

Northwest Airlines flight 253 landed safely in Detroit at 11:53 a.m. The man, whose flight started in Nigeria before stopping in Amsterdam, was taken into custody at the Detroit airport and was interviewed by authorities there. He was then taken to an area hospital to be treated for burns.

Delta spokeswoman Susan Chana Elliott said that "as the plane was getting ready to land" in Detroit "a passenger caused a disturbance" by trying to ignite what was reported to be firecrackers.

The man was "subdued immediately," Elliott said. Northwest is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delta.

An in-flight emergency was declared when a fire indicator light when on in the cockpit, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The pilot asked for airport rescue and firefighting services and for law enforcement to meet the flight at gate, the TSA said.

It is unclear how powerful the explosive could have been and what the man’s intentions were. Initial reports were that fireworks or firecrackers had gone off on the plane.

The man suffered second-degree burns, which is consistent with a small fireworks device, police sources said.

Weirdly, the print version of the same ABC News story reads:

Man Attempts to Set Off Explosives on Plane

By RICHARD ESPOSITO, PIERRE THOMAS and SCOTT MAYEROWITZ

Dec. 25, 2009—Federal officials and police are interviewing a man, believed to be Nigerian, who allegedly was trying to ignite a powdery substance today aboard a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit.

Northwest Airlines flight 253 landed safely in Detroit at 11:42 a.m. Only two passengers suffered minor injuries, according to law enforcement officials. The man is in custody at the airport and being interviewed by authorities.

It is unclear how powerful the explosive could have been and what the man’s intentions were. Initial reports were that fireworks or firecrackers had gone off on the plane.

Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Sandra R. Berchtold from the Detroit office confirmed that the FBI was at the airport but would not comment further.

The Transportation Security Administration, which handles aircraft and airplane safety, said it would be issuing a statement on the incident shortly.

The aircraft was an Airbus A330-200, twin jet carrying 178 passengers.

So why would ABC News rewrite it so?

  Update!

From an disappointed Associated Press:

AP sources: Al-Qaida link in failed plane attack

By Larry Margasak And Lara Jakes, Associated Press Writer

December 25, 2009

WASHINGTON – A Northwest Airlines passenger from Nigeria, who said he was acting on al-Qaida’s instructions, tried to blow up the plane Friday as it was landing in Detroit, law enforcement and national security officials said.

Passengers subdued the man and may have prevented him from detonating the explosives, the officials said.

"We believe this was an attempted act of terrorism," a White House official said.

Federal officials imposed stricter screening measures after the incident.

Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., ranking GOP member of the House Homeland Security Committee, identified the suspect as Abdul Mudallad, a Nigerian. King said the flight began in Nigeria and went through Amsterdam en route to Detroit. There were 278 passengers aboard the Airbus 330…

One of the U.S. intelligence officials said the explosive device was a mix of powder and liquid. It failed when the passenger tried to detonate it…

All the sources spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation was continuing.

One law enforcement source said the man claimed to have been instructed by al-Qaida to detonate the plane over U.S. soil.

The official said an official determination of a terrorist act would have to come from the attorney general.

The official added that additional security measures are being taken without raising the airline threat level.

The official declined to describe what additional measures law enforcement was taking.

The White House was coordinating briefings for the president through the Homeland Security Department, the Transportation Security Administration and the FBI.

A law enforcement source said the explosives may have been strapped to the man’s body but investigators weren’t immediately certain, partly because of the struggle with other passengers…

President Barack Obama was notified of the incident and discussed it with security officials, the White House said. It said he is monitoring the situation and receiving regular updates from his vacation spot in Hawaii…

"We encourage those with future travel plans to stay in touch with their airline and to visit http://www.tsa.gov for updates," Homeland Security Department said in a statement.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has been briefed on the incident and is closely monitoring the situation.

The department encouraged travelers to be observant and aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious behavior to law enforcement officials.

Why didn’t the White House official tell us that the perpetrator is a Muslim?

(Just kidding.)

"...can’t wait for our health care to be managed with this kind of oversight."

It’s getting better; various news sources are saying that the man was listed on the no-fly list.

So much for TSA security. (Remember that even though the plane boarded overseas, TSA is ultimately responsible for the security of all aircraft entering the United States.)

The Wall Street Journal has a great article up now, and doesn’t mince words in its headline:

Midair Bomb Attempt Fails

By Peter Speigel, Cam Simpson and Neal E. Boudette

DETROIT– A passenger on a Detroit-bound Northwest Airlines flight tried to detonate an explosive device that was strapped to his leg and later told investigators that he was trying to blow up the plane and had affiliations with al Qaeda, according to a senior U.S. official.

The passenger was identified by authorities as Abdul Mudallad, a 23-year-old Nigerian national, according to Rep. Peter King, a New York Republican who is the ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee.

The device was technologically advanced and potentially devastating, Mr. King said. “This was not a firecracker,” he said.

Stephanie van Herk, a passenger from the Netherlands who was in seat 18B, said the Northwest plane had lowered its landing gear when she heard a loud bang. At first she thought the plane might have gotten a flat tire, but then she said saw a flame leap from the lap of a man sitting in the row behind her in the window seat, 19A.

It was higher than the seat,” said Ms. van Herk, who was traveling to Detroit on route to a vacation in New York.

“Then everyone started screaming. It was panic,” Ms. van Herk, 22 years old, said. She said the flight attendants shouted, “What are you doing? What are you doing?”

Mr. King said the suspect’s name did not appear on any of the terrorist watch lists maintained by U.S. authorities, but that the Nigerian national did turn up “hot” in other terrorism-related databases maintained by intelligence officials.

Mr. Mudallad suffered 3rd-degree burns when the device detonated on approach to Detroit, according to Mr. King. He said none of the other passengers was seriously injured.

The man told investigators that he was given the device by al Qaeda operatives in Yemen, where he was also given instructions on how to detonate it, the U.S. official said.

“This guy claims he is tied to al Qaeda, specifically in Yemen,” the official said. “He claims he was on orders from al Qaeda in Yemen.” …

http://online.wsj.com/article/.....05369.html

The article continues:

There’s definitely a terrorist nexus — that’s the term being used by the people I’m talking to in Washington,” Mr. King said following his briefings Friday. He would not say, however, whether there was a direct link to al Qaeda.

Mr. King said authorities were scrambling to find out where a security breach might have occurred. The plane departed from Lagos, Nigeria, and had a stopover in Amsterdam before flying to Detroit, according to Mr. King. He also said there was no intelligence indicating it was part of a wider plot involving other attempted attacks, but that authorities weren’t taking any chances.

So he was able to get it on the plane in Nigeria, and then pass through security in Amsterdam with the device as well.

So much for... airport "security..."

Read the discussion here:

Earlier the BBC had described the event as involving “firecrackers”.

Recent headlines seem lifted directly out of an Ayn Rand novel. President Obama decries the “fat cat bankers on Wall Street”. Harry Reid attacks insurance companies for making too much profit. House Democrat leaders call Tea Partiers “Racist, Nazi, Gun Nuts”.  How about this nauseating statement made by Army General George Casey after the Muslim terrorist attack on Ft. Hood?

As great a tragedy as this was, it would be a shame if our diversity became a casualty as well

Each of these headlines might well have been uttered by an Ayn Rand character. Rand, whose father’s pharmacy was confiscated by the Soviets during the communist revolution of 1917, and who came to America in 1926, seems uniquely able to speak to us about the inverted morality of our times. Virtue is to be apologized for. Depravity commands respect. Success is cast as evil and punished while failure is blamed on others and rewarded. Rand’s insights into the psychological state of collectivists—those who demand that we sacrifice our individual freedom and happiness for the sake of the state—explain what often seems incomprehensible to thinking people.

Routine Turned to Mayhem on Terror Flight

Christmas Day Terror: Man Ignites Explosives on NW Flight 253 from Amsterdam to Detroit

This is just coming down tonight. A Nigerian man who says he was working for Al Qaeda tried to blow up Northwest flight 253 from Amsterdam to Detroit. Here's the story from the AP:

A Northwest Airlines passenger from Nigeria, who said he was acting on al-Qaida's instructions, set off an explosive device Friday in a failed terrorist attack on the plane as it was landing in Detroit, federal officials said.

Flight 253 with 278 passengers aboard was 20 minutes from the airport when it sounded like a firecracker had exploded, witnesses said. One passenger jumped over others and tried to subdue the man. Shortly afterward, the suspect was taken to a front row seat with his pants cut off and his legs burned.

The White House said it believed it was an attempted act of terrorism and stricter security measures were quickly imposed on airline travel, but were not specified.

Law enforcement officials identified the suspect as Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab. Others had slightly different spellings.

One law enforcement source said the man claimed to have been instructed by al-Qaida to detonate the plane over U.S. soil.

What is particularly freaky is that my dad was on this same flight only eight days ago on a return business trip to Moscow that connected in Amsterdam.

I'm collecting more information right now.

Update: In a report in the Detroit Free Press, Syed Jafry, who was seating three seats in front of the suspect, said that he heard a pop before the device ignited. Also, passengers were the ones who subdued and detained the suspect:

Syed Jafry of Holland, Ohio, who had flown from the United Arab Emirates, said after emerging from the airport that people ran out of their seats to tackle the man.

Jafry was sitting in the 16th row -- three rows behind the passenger -- when he heard "a pop and saw some smoke and fire." Then, he said, "a young man behind me jumped on him."

Jafry said there was a little bit of commotion for about 10 to 15 minutes. The incident occurred during the plane's descent, he said.

He said the way passengers responded made him proud to be an American.

Update II: Belmont Club has a lot of information, too.

Update III: This newest attempted terrorist attack has lit a fire in the belly of an Islamic leader in Detroit, who called for Muslims to cooperate with law enforcement so they can "'stop these maniacs -- who in the name of religion -- pursue these political goals'":

A local Islamic leader said he was disturbed by today's attempted terrorist attack in Detroit and called for Muslims to work with law enforcement to fight terrorism.

"We want to do everything we can to make sure this doesn't happen," said Victor Begg, of Bloomfield Hills, head of the Council of Islamic Organizations of Michigan. "We want to be on the front lines to help law enforcement."

...Begg and the council helped organize an event today where Muslims and Jews worked together to help the needy in metro Detroit on Christmas Day.

"It's really depressing," Begg said of the incident today on the plane. "It sets back all the work we do."

Update IV: The Hill, via Ed Morrissey, reports that his sources tell him that the suspect "was on a list 'indicating significant terrorist connections.'"

As an aside, if you are at all familiar with the Detroit airport, you will know that one of the main traffic routes airplanes take on final go right over a number of neighborhoods and then over I-94. I've driven by the airport a number of times and what makes it so cool is that the planes look so close when they come in for landing that it seems as if you could open your window and reach out and touch them. It's enthralling to see. If this guy had succeeded in blowing up the plane, many people on the ground could have been killed.

No statistically significant warming since 1995: a quick mathematical proof

26 12 2009

Physicist Luboš Motl of The Reference Frame demonstrates how easy it is to show that there is: No statistically significant warming since 1995

First, since it wasn’t in his original post, here is the UAH data plotted:

UAH_LT_1979_thru_Nov_09

By: Luboš Motl

Because there has been some confusion – and maybe deliberate confusion – among some (alarmist) commenters about the non-existence of a statistically significant warming trend since 1995, i.e. in the last fifteen years, let me dedicate a full article to this issue.

I will use the UAH temperatures whose final 2009 figures are de facto known by now (with a sufficient accuracy) because UAH publishes the daily temperatures, too: Read the rest of this entry »

Steam train rescues stranded passengers in Britain where electric trains failed

Steam train’s snow rescue ‘glory’

Excerpts:

Passengers were rescued by a steam locomotive after modern rail services were brought to a halt by the snowy conditions in south-east England.

Trains between Ashford and Dover were suspended on Monday when cold weather disabled the electric rail.

Some commuters at London Victoria faced lengthy delays until Tornado – Britain’s first mainline steam engine in 50 years – offered them a lift.

They were taken home “in style”, said the Darlington-built engine’s owners.

Train services in Kent were hit hard by the freezing conditions at the start of the week. Read the rest of this entry »

MARK STEYN:

On September 11th 2001, the government’s (1970s) security procedures all failed, and the only good news of the day came from self-reliant citizens (on Flight 93) using their own wits and a willingness to act.

On December 25th 2009, the government’s (post-9/11) security procedures all failed, and the only good news came once again from alert individuals.

Somebody should write something on this phenomenon. Maybe even, you know, a book!

It’s an Obama World… Up is down, big is small, losing jobs is creating or saving jobs, and heroes are asked to be seated.

Yesterday, Jasper Schuringa, a video director and producer from Amsterdam, told CNN how he helped the cabin crew to subdue Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the 23-year-old who reportedly ignited a small explosive device on board the plane Friday as it prepared to land in Detroit.
The New York Daily News reported:

Schuringa said he heard a sound that reminded him of a firecracker and someone yelling, “Fire! Fire!”

He saw Abdulmutallab’s pants open and he was holding a burning object between his legs.

“I pulled the object from him and tried to extinguish the fire with my hands and threw it away,” Schuringa said.

He said he then screamed for water and pulled Abdulmutallab out of his seat and dragged him to the front of the plane.

In response to this courageous act of heroism, the Obama Administration enacted new policies today. The new rules will force heroic passengers to stay in their seats for the final hour of their flight before landing.

UPDATE: Reportedy the terrorist boarded the plane without a passport.

CBS News quotes officials who say the Nigerian attempted to blow up a Northwest Airlines plane over Detroit using PETN, whose method of “preparation involves the nitration of pentaerythritol with a mixture of concentrated nitric and sulfuric acid. The preferred method of nitration is the ICI method, which utilizes concentrated nitric acid (98%+) alone, as mixed acid can create unstable sulfonated by-products.”  Pentaerythritol is a crystalline organic compound that can be described as “white powder”, seen in this advertisement. CBS says:

The suspect in the attempted bombing of Northwest Flight 253 used a highly explosive substance called PETN, a law enforcement official told CBS News Saturday. The explosives were carried in a soft plastic container – possibly a condom – though much of the packaging was destroyed in the fire, the official said. …

A high-ranking law enforcement official told CBS News that the suspect apparently used a syringe to inject a chemical into the powder, which was located near his groin. It is a technique not seen in previous attempted attacks and it’s possible that this incident was a test of whether the materials could pass screening and how effective they might be at causing damage, the source said.

This video shows the effects of one third of an ounce of PETN on a small tree.

PETN is an ingredient used in detcord, or Primacord™. It has an extremely high explosive velocity of over 20,000 ft/second. I have used thousands of feet of the stuff connecting various loads in drillholes for blasting. Powerful stuff, and does not belong on planes.

Screening is one thing, but rational profiling will go a long way to lowering the chance of a threat like this.

But, if you really want to minimize the threat of terrorism, then you go after those individuals and organizations promoting our destruction and you take them out with the method appropriate for the situation. You do not need billions to do this. If you want your civilization to survive, you must go on the offensive, and make it clear that those promoting or perpetrating terrorism will be personally hurt. That is the only way you can communicate successfully with psychopaths, who are incapable of empathy.

Dear G-d. It’s a done deal and those who value life lost.

Catholic Hospitals have signaled that they back the Senate’s compromise on abortion which will, of course, result in taxpayer funded abortions in this country. This gives the democrats in Congress the excuse they need to vote for Obamacare.
The New York Times reported:

In an apparent split with Roman Catholic bishops over the abortion-financing provisions of the proposed health care overhaul, the nation’s Catholic hospitals have signaled that they back the Senate’s compromise on the issue, raising hopes of breaking an impasse in Congress and stirring controversy within the church.

The Senate bill, approved Thursday morning, allows any state to bar the use of federal subsidies for insurance plans that cover abortion and requires insurers in other states to divide subsidy money into separate accounts so that only dollars from private premiums would be used to pay for abortions.

Just days before the bill passed, the Catholic Health Association, which represents hundreds of Catholic hospitals across the country, said in a statement that it was “encouraged” and “increasingly confident” that such a compromise “can achieve the objective of no federal funding for abortion.” An umbrella group for nuns followed its lead.

The same day, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops called the proposed compromise “morally unacceptable.”

After a year of disastrous policies, skyrocketing unemployment numbers, and tripling of the national deficit, the Far Left has finally realized that President Pantywaist sucks as a leader.

The kooks at Fire Dog Lake were looking for some sort of Churchillian “progressive” but wound up with a 21st century Chamberlain instead.

The times call for a leader of Churchillian or Rooseveltian magnitude; what we have instead is a cautious risk-averse manager. Bold progressives must fill the leadership vacuum in order to restore and support a vibrant US middle class…

BHO’s decision to embrace modest stimulus enraged libertarians and conservatives who wanted to let the Free Market reign and disappointed progressive liberals who identified the need for a momentous government employment initiative that would restart and sustain the nation’s economic engine while preparing our infrastructure for the next generation in a changing energy environment.

BHO’s demonstrated personal need to achieve consensus during crisis and his failure to assert bold leadership on economic recovery and employment set the stage for the health care debate. In order to avoid alienating big campaign donors he allowed the playing field to shift to a focus on major health insurers and pharmaceutical companies (with their incestuous big bank brothers and sisters cheering from the sidelines). They were able, with the complicity of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel, to exploit BHO’s self-imposed Christmas 2009 deadline and his apparently congenital aversion to conflict (expressed as the goal of a “bipartisan” bill, which he did not achieve anyway!).

It took a while but the far left has finally figured out that we’re stuck with a ditherer and waffler for president. Instead of a Roosevelt we get Jimmy Carter the sequel.
It’s going to be a long 3 years.

At least Obama still has the state-run media to fluff his pillows.

SNUBBED. I predict it will get much worse.  "Mr. Obama did make history at Copenhagen, but not in the way he expected. It says a great deal about American power and prestige when international leaders go to so much trouble to avoid meeting with the president of the United States. The American Century is over."

How much of a failure is Barack Hussein Obama?

by Bob in Breckenridge ( 122 Comments › )
Filed under Barack Obama, Democratic Party, Economy, Leftists, Politics, Polls, Progressives at December 26th, 2009 - 3:00 pm

History shows he’s in a league if his own.

After listening the hubris and ever-so-obvious narcissism of our man-child President, and his outrageous (and hilarious) claim that the first year of his Presidency deserves a grade of B+, I found yet another great article, from the London Daily Telegraph, that spells out exactly why he’s such a dismal, utter, and complete failure so far.

Why is it I can’t ever find this kind of reporting in our state-controlled media? Of course, this is a rhetorical question that we all know the answer to.

The following is not news to most of us. The mainstream media is no longer interested reporting and investigating the news when it comes to the failed economic policy of the Obama administration.

Of course, when only 7% of his administration have experience in the private sector (that’s not a typo, fyi), such as actually running businesses and creating jobs, this incompetency is easy to understand.

This, of course, means 93% of the morons serving in his administration have only known government or academia as a way to get a paycheck. Here’s a newsflash for them: These failed and tired economic theories and policies never have created a job or solved a problem, and never will.

So is it any wonder that their only answers for creating jobs- Spending money we cannot afford to spend, and raising taxes, have and will continue to fail dismally while putting us further into debt?

Also, the media refuses to show how the lives of real Americans are being affected by the bumbling liberal buffoons in Obama’s administration, and the bumbling duo of liberal buffoons, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, who run the liberal-controlled Congress.

The media are more interested in reporting and setting the agenda of what the Obama administration wants us to think, hear, see, and believe.

That’s not news or the reporting of news, folks. That’s propaganda, pure and simple, worthy of the old state-controlled newspaper Pravda, which laughingly meant “truth”, from the failed and long-gone Soviet Union.

Obama and his dim-witted minions, including the mainstream media, are all Marxists who detest capitalism, which has done more good to lift millions upon millions of people out of poverty, and detest the United States of America, and what has made and makes us the great nation we are, and, God willing, will continue to be.

Obama and his stooges have been such inept and pathetic failures that they have actually managed to make that imbecilic anti-Semite peanut farmer Jimmy Carter and the bungling clowns of incompetence in his administration look competent.

Who would have thought that would be possible, after seeing that train-wreck of an administration have their asses booted back to Georgia as the obvious failures of the highest magnitude that they were, by the American electorate and Ronald Reagan, after four years of mismanaging our economy and country?

Congrats, Obama. You’ve made the the useless look useful. The unprofessional look professional. the inadequate look adequate. The incompetent look competent. Hope you’re proud!

And to think that Obama and the stooges in his administration and in his media have the gall to call Fox News an outlet for GOP propaganda.

They obviously think all Americans are stupid and/or blind to what’s happening. We are not, which is why his approval rating continues its freefall toward oblivion, and a one-term Presidency, thankfully.

Then they also wonder why there’s such a disconnect between what the D.C. crowd and media sees while wearing their rose-colored glasses, undoubtedly supplied by The Zero™ and the equally clueless dimwits in his administration, and what real Americans see in their everyday lives.

Anyway, I’ll climb down off my soapbox, but before I do I hope everyone had a Happy Hannukah and Merry Christmas, and has a happy, prosperous, and safe New Year…Here’s the article. It’s well worth reading-

US voters give Barack Obama an F

By Nile Gardener

Barack Obama gave himself a B+ on Oprah Winfrey’s White House Christmas Special on ABC, but the American public is far less generous. The latest influential Rasmussen Daily Presidential Tracking Poll of likely US voters gives Obama a thumping 56 percent disapproval rating – an F grade by any measure. 46 percent strongly disapprove of the president’s job performance, while just 25 percent strongly approve. That’s a Presidential Approval Index rating of -21 percentage points, a staggering figure for a president just 11 months into his term of office.

These are historically low approval ratings for a US president, that concur with those released by several other pollsters, including NBC News/Wall Street Journal, who recently reported a 47 percent approval for Obama, and Quinnipiac and Marist, both at 46 percent.

The latest Gallup Survey gives Obama just 50 percent approval, lower than any president in the first December of his first term in the post-war period, with the exception of Ronald Reagan in 1981, at 49 percent, who inherited a country literally brought to its knees by the Carter presidency before later restoring it to greatness. Reagan eventually left office with a 68 percent approval.

At the same stage of their presidencies, George W. Bush polled at 81 percent approval, John F. Kennedy at 77 percent, George H.W. Bush at 71 percent, Dwight Eisenhower at 69 percent, Richard Nixon at 59 percent, Jimmy Carter at 57 percent, and Bill Clinton at 53 percent. Significantly, it wasn’t until his second term that President George W. Bush’s approval ratings began to sink to the levels currently experienced by Obama.

Barack Obama’s health care reform legislation is playing a major part in driving the high negativity ratings. 54 percent of voters surveyed by Rasmussen “believe they will be worse off” if the health care Titanic is approved by Congress, with just 25 percent believing they will be better off. 57 percent of voters now say that “it would be better to pass no health care reform bill this year instead of passing the plan currently being considered by Congress.” As the RealClearPolitics summary of polls demonstrates, the Obama health care plan is hugely unpopular.

The latest Rasmussen Presidential Tracking Poll reflects widespread disenchantment in the United States with the leftward direction Barack Obama is trying to take the country. As recent Gallup surveys have shown, America remains a predominantly conservative nation, with less than a quarter of Americans identifying themselves as liberal. In fact, the United States is shifting even more to the right under Obama, with a significant revival in the strength of the conservative movement. This poll should be a wake-up call for the White House, if it still mistakenly believes that a radical left-wing agenda can be sold to the American people.

Here’s the rest of the story.

LANDMARK DECISION PROMISES MASSIVE RELIEF FOR HOMEOWNERS AND TROUBLE FOR BANKS

The Climate Change Scam: A Concise Summary (aka A Requiem for Algore)

In the wake of Climategate, common sense deniers like to say that there is lots of other evidence for global warming, in addition to that which has been debunked by the East Anglia whistleblower. Actually, however, the scientific evidence for AGW is remarkably weak. At (Icecap) Lee Gerhard, geologist and reviewer for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, sums up the key scientific evidence with admirable brevity:

It is crucial that scientists are factually accurate when they do speak out, that they ignore media hype and maintain a clinical detachment from social or other agendas. There are facts and data that are ignored in the maelstrom of social and economic agendas swirling about Copenhagen. Greenhouse gases and their effects are well-known. Here are some of things we know:

• The most effective greenhouse gas is water vapor, comprising approximately 95 percent of the total greenhouse effect.

• Carbon dioxide concentration has been continually rising for nearly 100 years. It continues to rise, but carbon dioxide concentrations at present are near the lowest in geologic history.

• Temperature change correlation with carbon dioxide levels is not statistically significant.

• There are no data that definitively relate carbon dioxide levels to temperature changes.

• The greenhouse effect of carbon dioxide logarithmically declines with increasing concentration. At present levels, any additional carbon dioxide can have very little effect.

We also know a lot about Earth temperature changes:

• Global temperature changes naturally all of the time, in both directions and at many scales of intensity.

• The warmest year in the U.S. in the last century was 1934, not 1998. The U.S. has the best and most extensive temperature records in the world.

• Global temperature peaked in 1998 on the current 60-80 year cycle, and has been episodically declining ever since. This cooling absolutely falsifies claims that human carbon dioxide emissions are a controlling factor in Earth temperature.

• Voluminous historic records demonstrate the Medieval Climate Optimum (MCO) was real and that the "hockey stick" graphic that attempted to deny that fact was at best bad science. The MCO was considerably warmer than the end of the 20th century.

• During the last 100 years, temperature has both risen and fallen, including the present cooling. All the changes in temperature of the last 100 years are in normal historic ranges, both in absolute value and, most importantly, rate of change.

Contrary to many public statements:

• Effects of temperature change are absolutely independent of the cause of the temperature change.

• Global hurricane, cyclonic and major storm activity is near 30-year lows. Any increase in cost of damages by storms is a product of increasing population density in vulnerable areas such as along the shores and property value inflation, not due to any increase in frequency or severity of storms.

• Polar bears have survived and thrived over periods of extreme cold and extreme warmth over hundreds of thousands of years extremes far in excess of modern temperature changes.

• The 2009 minimum Arctic ice extent was significantly larger than the previous two years. The 2009 Antarctic maximum ice extent was significantly above the 30-year average. There are only 30 years of records.

• Rate and magnitude of sea level changes observed during the last 100 years are within normal historical ranges. Current sea level rise is tiny and, at most, justifies a prediction of perhaps ten centimeters rise in this century.

The present climate debate is a classic conflict between data and computer programs. The computer programs are the source of concern over climate change and global warming, not the data. Data are measurements. Computer programs are artificial constructs.

Public announcements use a great deal of hyperbole and inflammatory language. For instance, the word "ever" is misused by media and in public pronouncements alike. It does not mean "in the last 20 years," or "the last 70 years." "Ever" means the last 4.5 billion years.

For example, some argue that the Arctic is melting, with the warmest-ever temperatures. One should ask, "How long is ever?" The answer is since 1979. And then ask, "Is it still warming?" The answer is unequivocally "No." Earth temperatures are cooling. Similarly, the word "unprecedented" cannot be legitimately used to describe any climate change in the last 8,000 years.

OUTCRY: “Napolitano should quit.” “I watched her on three shows and each time she was more annoying, maddening and absurd than the pevious appearance. It is her basic position that the ’system worked’ because the bureaucrats responded properly after the attack. That the attack was ‘foiled’ by a bad detonator and some civilian passengers is proof, she claims, that her agency is doing everything right. That is just about the dumbest thing she could say, on the merits and politically. I would wager that not one percent of Americans think the system is ‘working’ when terrorists successfully get bombs onto planes (and succeed in activating them).”

UPDATE: More from an Obama voter: “Now, I know they are mopping up after a failure, and there is reason to want to portray the attack as coming out of the blue and unconnected to anything that should have been the subject of close monitoring, but — damn — I hope they are doing a better job than they look like they are doing. And if they don’t look like they’ve been doing a good job, then they aren’t even doing a good job of mopping up after their failure.”

ANOTHER UPDATE: Obama Voter: “Yes, I’m sorry.”

MORE: Andy McCarthy:

The people now in charge of our government believe Clinton-era counterterrorism was a successful model. They start from the premise that terrorism is a crime problem to be managed, not a war to be won. Overdone “war on drugs” rhetoric aside, we don’t try to “win” against (as in “defeat”) law-enforcement challenges. We expect them to happen from time to time and to contain, but never completely prevent, the damage.

Here, no thanks to the government, the plane was not destoyed, and we won’t get to the bottom of the larger conspiracy (enabling the likes of Napolitano to say there’s no indication of a larger plot — much less one launched by an international jihadist enterprise) because the guy got to lawyer up rather than be treated like a combatant and subjected to lengthy interrogation. But the terrorist will be convicted at trial (this “case” tees up like a slam-dunk), so the administration will put it in the books as a success … just like the Clinton folks did after the ‘93 WTC bombers and the embassy bombers were convicted. In their minds, litigation success equals national security success.

It is a dangerously absurd viewpoint, but it was clear during the campaign that it was Obama’s viewpoint. The American people — only seven years after 9/11 — elected him anyway. As we learn more painfully everyday, elections matter.

Indeed they do.

Plus, “Janet, you’re doin’ a heck of a job.”

11 Yesterday I posted a thought about how the next step would be for all passengers to be placed under general anaesthetic.
Doesn't seem so unlikely now.
This whole fiasco is all the proof anyone needs to understand that about 52% of our voters have literal sh*t for brains. Reap what you sow, 52 Percenters. You wanted a government with a pretty face, correct skin color, and no experience or "cynical" attitudes about the world?
Enjoy the suck.
12 Maybe Obama should stop golfing at this point. Just for the symbolism, ya know.

44. AWM:

I listened to some “Liberal” radio the other day on Sirius.

Yep, military cuts, they are coming. All to balance the budget, so higher taxes too, see the deficit will be the next big crisis (and they did a pretty good job manufacturing that crisis too).

These guys went on and on about how “worthless” a bomb is, how it’s resources wasted, and if it even is used it destroys resources.
EVIL EVIL EVIL, that’s the military industrial complex. It needs to be eliminated, like all those strategic weapon platforms we waste all that money on. Maybe that’s why Obama has cut off funding the maintenance and upgrades.
And of course they scrapped the F22, and next the F35, just think of all the social programs you could feed with that money. All the hunger, all the homelessness, all the illness, why you could fix it ALL if you just scrapped the whole military.
It’s a one world revolution, we don’t need any of these “security” items now.
We could ensure permanent poverty and government dependency with all that money!

They used Eisenhour’s 1953 “Chance for Peace” speech for some of their arguments.
” Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.

This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals.

It is some 50 miles of concrete highway. We pay for a single fighter with a half million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people.”

YEP, it’s criminal to continue any production of war making weapons.
We must outlaw all guns, ammo, and even remove such evil evices from our security forces, police, and the like.
I guess it’ll end up being Obama’s “Civilian Security Force” (AKA ACORN with our confiscated weapons)that will be the only ones armed.

When Obama does pass legislation for us to turn our guns and ammo in, it’ll be ACORN and SEIU that will be “collecting” them.

47. Batman:

RE: AWM @44 — You have identified the invisible subtext for why it is “advantageous” to encumber the economy with cap and trade and health care “reform” and stimulus packages, all of which will reduce GDP and divert resources to more and more entitlements. If we impoverish the economy it will be easier to argue that we can’t afford our expensive military.

RE: LOTM and others — The bad guys are probing and probing and probing for weaknesses. If one puts one’s mind to it, one can surely think of many low tech ways of causing enormous chaos. The Mumbai style is merely one. Destroying freeway interchanges, major hospitals, shopping malls — these are but a few of the key low tech vulnerabilities.

The worst president at the worst of times. We are in Middle East. Let's help these people. We should arm them, We should go in and de-nuke the mullahs. No, instead we are trying Islamic jihad in Gaza and givign them billions.

These people will win. They have right on their side. They wull never forgive us, leaders of the free world, for abandoning them as they were slaughtered. This is a terrible stain on the glory that was once a proud and glorious America. But then again, so is this president.

Deaths reported amid chaos and violence in Iran

>Reporting from Tehran and Beirut - The Iranian capital erupted in massive and fiery morning-to-dusk protests today as tens of thousands of demonstrators clashed with security forces on the occasion of an important Shiite Muslim holiday.

Several witnesses told The Times that Iranian security forces opened fire with live ammunition against unarmed protesters near College Bridge in in the capital. And opposition news websites reported that several protesters had been killed, including Ali Mousavi, the adult nephew of opposition figurehead Mir-Hossein Mousavi.

Reformist websites said he was shot and taken to a Tehran hospital, where his uncle and other relatives soon arrived.

The information could not be independently confirmed, and a police source denied that protesters had been killed in a comment to the pro-government Fars News Agency.

But a witness in front of City Theater in downtown Tehran said she saw a fallen man, apparently stabbed in the back, and spotted another man falling to the ground after a volley of shots was fired near Enghelab Street, which emerged as the epicenter of the day's clashes.

The reports of deaths came during a harrowing day of multiple, rolling clashes between police and Iranian protesters coinciding with an important Ashura religious commemoration as well as the significant seventh day of mourning following the death of the country's leading dissident cleric, Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri.

Reformist websites and witnesses also reported clashes in the cities of Qom, Esfahan, Najafabad, Kashan, Shiraz, Babol and Mashhad.

Demonstrators vowed to continue the protests into the night, with reformist news websites identifying key Tehran squares for gatherings.

"There is no let-up," said Farzad, a 30-year-old who attended today's protests with his girlfriend. "We will go ahead until we topple the government."

Across the capital, witnesses described scenes of pandemonium, which were confirmed by video footage posted online. One described Tehran as a war zone, and another likened the situation to open "civil war" as increasingly bold demonstrators took on security forces, in one case stripping a member of the security forces naked before letting him go, a witness said.

Despite a heavy crackdown, the protest movement that emerged from Iran's disputed June 12 presidential election has grown increasingly daring, with those who want abolition of the Islamic Republic increasingly vocal.

Iran 1225 14

Protesters had vowed for weeks to turn today's annual Ashura commemoration marking the 7th century martyrdom of Imam Hussein, grandson of the prophet Muhammad, into an anti-government demonstration.

The green-themed protest movement sought to meld its cry of injustice with the emotionally powerful narrative of Imam Hussein, whom Shiites believe was unjustly robbed of his throne as the leader of the faithful when he was cut down in battle by the Yazid on the fields outside Karbala, in what is now southern Iraq.

IRAN 1227 3

"This is a month of blood," they chanted. "Yazid will be defeated!" "We will fight, we will die, we will get our country back!" the protesters yelled out, holding ribbons of green.

Black plumes of smoke could be seen rising from downtown Tehran. Video posted online showed protesters beating pro-government militiamen as their motorcycles burned in the background. Helicopters hovered in the skies.

Protesters built fires in trash cans to ward off the effects of tear gas. Witnesses described running street battles between plainclothes and uniformed security officers and demonstrators, some throwing stones, in more than a dozen Tehran localities.

At Enghelab Square, a police car was set ablaze, and protesters set fire to motorcycles belonging to riot police in various locales.

Meeting bullets with sheer will

The wail of ambulance sirens could be heard all over the city. Car horns honked on expressways as motorists created traffic jams in an effort to prevent security forces from moving freely. Drivers on nearby streets leaned on their horns and flashed "V" hand signs despite the heavy presence of police deployed around main squares. Passengers on buses could be heard chanting slogans.

This is truly just pathetic.
The Obama White House found a way to blame Bush for the Detroit Christmas Day terror attempt.
Verum Serum reported:

Robert Gibbs and Secretary Napolitano made clear that we are pressing ahead with securing our nation against threats and our aggressive posture in the war with al Qaeda. We are winding down a war in Iraq that took our eye off of the terrorists that attacked us, and have dramatically increased our resources in Afghanistan and Pakistan where those terrorists are. We are putting the pressure on al Qaeda worldwide with all elements of American power, and key al Qaeda leaders have been taken out in Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia. Gibbs also made clear the President refuses to play politics with these issues. As he said in West Point, we must put aside petty politics and recapture the unity that we had after 9/11.

Lastly, Gibbs and Secretary Napolitano announced that the president has asked that the policies and procedures that have been in place the last several years related to watch-listing and all information available on the suspect be reviewed.

Blaming Bush for this flub was a stretch even for Obama.
But, it surprises no one.

Flashback: Charlie Foxtrot predicted this would happen.

"So basically, we are stimulating the government bureaucracy."

If this doesn't tell the tale and piss you off then quite frankly, you're part of the damned problem:

The Dallas Morning News has the story that best exemplifies the $787,000,000,000 economic stimulus.

"AUSTIN - The state received millions of federal dollars from the economic-stimulus package to help poor Texans cut their energy bills, but by the end of last month, just seven homes had been weather-treated under the program. The state has spent $1.8 million of $163 million available over the past four months, with most of it going to administrative costs, such as the salaries of state workers," the Dallas Morning News reported.

So basically, we are stimulating the government bureaucracy.

The government is spending $271,000 per home to winterize it. Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy each shack and give the homeowner some repo'd three bedroom ranch?

The people who voted for this monstrosity need to pay a price... a steep one.

Obama and Democrats tripled the national deficit in less than one year with their $787 billion failed stimulus.

Obama increased the national debt to $12 Trillion.
And he nearly doubled the unemployment rate from the Bush years since his failed Stimulus Plan was passed.

For the first time a plurality of Americans believe the Pelosi-Obama trillion dollar Stimulus boondoggle hurt the economy rather than helped it.
Rasmussen reported:

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 30% of voters nationwide believe the $787-billion economic stimulus plan has helped the economy. However, 38% believe that the stimulus plan has hurt the economy. This is the first time since the legislation passed that a plurality has held a negative view of its impact.

The number who believe that the stimulus plan has hurt the economy rose from 28% in September, to 31% in October, and 34% in November before jumping to 38% this month. The week after the president signed the bill, 34% said it would help the economy, while 32% said it would hurt.

Winning Quotes in the MRC's Best of NQ Annual Awards for the Year's Worst Reporting

The winning quotes in the MRC's “Best Notable Quotables of 2009: The Twenty-Second Annual Awards for the Year's Worst Reporting.” As announced in a CyberAlert Special last Monday, the awards issue was posted, with videos, on Monday, December 21, but following tradition, today, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday -- the last weekdays of the year -- MRC.org's BiasAlert and corresponding CyberAlert e-mail newsletter will run the winning quotes followed on succeeding days by the runners-up.

The page linked above also has links to download a PDF version or the text of the entire issue in MS Word, OpenOffice Writer or WordPerfect formats.

The Media Research Center's annual awards issue provides a compilation of the most outrageous and/or humorous news media quotes from 2009 (December 2008 through November 2009).

To determine this year’s winners, a panel of 48 radio talk show hosts, magazine editors, columnists, editorial writers, and media observers each selected their choices for the first, second and third best quote from a slate of five to eight quotes in each category. First place selections were awarded three points, second place choices two points, with one point for the third place selections. Point totals are listed in the brackets at the end of the attribution for each quote. Each judge was also asked to choose a “Quote of the Year” denoting the most outrageous quote of 2009.

The MRC’s Michelle Humphrey, Karen Topper and Kristine Lawrence distributed and counted the ballots, then produced the numerous audio and video clips that accompany the Web-posted version. Rich Noyes and Brent Baker assembled this issue and Brad Ash posted the entire package on the MRC’s Web site. In addition to Rich and Brent, back in November Tim Graham and Geoffrey Dickens helped select the quotes for the ballot and think up category titles.

The list of the judges, who were generous with their time, is posted online and listed below after the winning quotes.

Now, the winning quotes in the 17 award categories (see the “Best Notable Quotables of 2009” pages for video clips of each quote):

The Coronation of the Messiah Award for Fawning Inaugural Coverage

“We know that wind can make a cold day feel colder, but can national pride make a freezing day feel warmer? It seems to be the case because regardless of the final crowd number estimates, never have so many people shivered so long with such joy. From above, even the seagulls must have been awed by the blanket of humanity.”
— ABC's Bill Weir on World News, January 20. [66 points]

Master of His Domain Award for Obama Puffery

“The legislative achievements have been stupendous — the $789 billion stimulus bill, the budget plan that is still being hammered out (and may, ultimately, include the next landmark safety-net program, universal health insurance). There has also been a cascade of new policies to address the financial crisis — massive interventions in the housing and credit markets, a market-based plan to buy the toxic assets that many banks have on their books, a plan to bail out the auto industry and a strict new regulatory regime proposed for Wall Street. Obama has also completely overhauled foreign policy, from Cuba to Afghanistan. ‘In a way, Obama's 100 days is even more dramatic than Roosevelt's,' says Elaine Kamarck of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. ‘Roosevelt only had to deal with a domestic crisis. Obama has had to overhaul foreign policy as well, including two wars. And that’s really the secret of why this has seemed so spectacular.’”
Time's Joe Klein in the magazine's May 4 cover story on Barack Obama's first 100 days as President. [100 points]

The Crush Rush Award for Loathing Limbaugh

“The type of female that does like Rush is the same type of woman that falls in love with prisoners. You know what I mean? They like Richard Ramirez or — Squeaky Fromme is a good example. I think Charles Manson’s — Eva Braun, Hitler’s girlfriend. That is exactly the type of woman that responds really well to Rush. And there will be some Eva Brauns, Squeaky Frommes out there that will respond really well to this cattle call right now.”
— Actress/activist Janeane Garofalo on MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann, February 26. [59 points]

Damn Those Conservatives Award

“The Republicans lie! They want to see you dead! They’d rather make money off your dead corpse! They kind of like it when that woman has cancer and they don’t have anything for her.”
— Ed Schultz, host of MSNBC's The Ed Show, September 23. [57 points]

The Poison Tea Pot Award for Smearing the Anti-Obama Rabble

CNN analyst David Gergen: “Republicans are pretty much in disarray....They have not yet come up with a compelling alternative, one that has gained popular recognition. So-”
Anderson Cooper: “Teabagging. They’ve got teabagging.”
Gergen: “Well, they’ve got the teabagging....[But] Republicans have got a way — they still haven’t found their voice, Anderson. They’re still — this happens to a minority party after it’s lost a couple of bad elections, but they’re searching for their voice.”
Cooper: “It’s hard to talk when you’re teabagging.”
— CNN's Anderson Cooper 360, April 14. “Teabagging” is a vulgar slang term for a certain variety of oral sex; Cooper later apologized. [65 points]

Spread the Wealth Award for Socialist Sermonizing

“Why not just nationalize the banks?...People are angry. There’s so much taxpayer money going into the banks. Why shouldn’t the government — why shouldn’t you just fire the executives who wrecked these banks in the first place and tanked the world’s financial system in the process?”
— ABC's Terry Moran interviewing President Obama for Nightline, February 10. [53 points]

Long Live Camelot Award for Lionizing Ted Kennedy

“Mary Jo wasn’t a right-wing talking point or a negative campaign slogan....We don’t know how much Kennedy was affected by her death, or what she’d have thought about arguably being a catalyst for the most successful Senate career in history....[One wonders what] Mary Jo Kopechne would have had to say about Ted’s death, and what she’d have thought of the life and career that are being (rightfully) heralded. Who knows — maybe she’d feel it was worth it.”
Discover magazine deputy web editor Melissa Lafsky, who formerly worked on the New York Times’s Freakonomics blog, writing at the Huffington Post, August 27. [107 points]

The Half-Baked Alaska Award for Pummeling Palin

CNN's Jack Cafferty: “Here’s the question: ‘Would you rather listen to a speech by Sarah Palin or a speech by Newt Gingrich?’ Go to CNN — or would you rather just stick needles in your eyes? [Over loud laughter off-camera from a man other than Cafferty, presumably Blitzer] Go to CNN.com/CaffertyFile and you can post a comment on my blog. I forgot about the third option.”
Anchor Wolf Blitzer: “What do you think, Jack? You want to listen to Palin or Gingrich deliver a speech?”
Cafferty: “I’m not interested in listening to either one of them.”
— Exchange on CNN’s The Situation Room, June 9, talking about Palin and Gingrich’s appearance at a Republican fundraiser the previous evening. [53 points]

The Un-Fairness Doctrine Award for Slamming Media Conservatives

“Let me be precise here: Fox News peddles a fair amount of hateful crap. Some of it borders on sedition. Much of it is flat out untrue. But I don’t understand why the White House would give such poisonous helium balloons as Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity the opportunity for still greater spasms of self-inflation by declaring war on Fox....The best antidote to their garbage is elegant, intelligent governance.”
Time’s Joe Klein on the magazine’s “Swampland” blog, October 23. [62 points]

Let Us Fluff Your Pillow Award for Obsequious Obama Interviews

“You’re so confident, Mr. President, and so focused. Is your confidence ever shaken? Do you ever wake up and say, ‘Damn, this is hard. Damn, I’m not going to get the things done I want to get done, and it’s just too politicized to really get accomplished the big things I want to accomplish’?”
— CBS’s Katie Couric in an exchange with Obama shown on The Early Show, July 22. [92 points]

Barry’s Big Brain Award for Journalists Bedazzled by Obama’s Brilliance

“I like to say that, in some ways, Barack Obama is the first President since George Washington to be taking a step down into the Oval Office. I mean, from visionary leader of a giant movement, now he’s got an executive position that he has to perform in, in a way.”
— ABC Nightline co-anchor Terry Moran to Media Bistro’s Steve Krakauer in a February 20 “Morning Media Menu” podcast. [82 points]

The Audacity of Dopes Award for Wackiest Analysis of the Year

“Reagan [at the 1984 D-Day commemoration] was all about America, and you talked about it. Obama is, ‘We are above that now. We’re not just parochial, we’re not just chauvinistic, we’re not just provincial. We stand for something.’ I mean, in a way, Obama’s standing above the country, above — above the world. He’s sort of God. He’s going to bring all different sides together.”
Newsweek’s Evan Thomas to host Chris Matthews on MSNBC’s Hardball, June 5. [79 points]

The Obamagasm Award for Seeing Coolness In Everything Obama Does

Correspondent John Harwood: “He had this fly that was persistently buzzing around him....He swatted his hand and he said, ‘I got the sucker.’ He threw it onto the ground. It was a, you know, Dirty Harry ‘make my day’ moment.”...
MSNBC anchor David Shuster: “Amazing...An amazing interview....It never fails — great weather, rainbows, incredible speeches, and three-point basket. A fly and he nails it. Unbelievable. Unbelievable.”
— Exchange on MSNBC after Harwood’s CNBC interview with President Obama concluded, June 16. [76 points]

Michelle, the Media Belle Award

Correspondent Dawna Friesen: “Her husband is, of course, the big star of the show, but this is Michelle Obama’s first foray on to the global stage as First Lady. And you can bet that her every move, her every fashion decision will be dissected and analyzed, especially when the couple go to meet the Queen. But she’s got a lot of good will on her side.”
Video of Michelle Obama as Andy Williams sings: “You’re just too good to be true/Can’t take my eyes off of you.”
Friesen, as song continues playing in background: “Ask the British about Michelle Obama, and you’ll hear a lot of what you hear in the States.”
Woman on the street: “Oh, I think she’s really cool. She’s got a lot of really good styles. It makes a change from politicians’ wives to look good.”
Man on the street: “She looks supportive and that’s what a man needs in life.”
Second man: “I have been totally stunned at the awesome nature of Michelle Obama.”...
Friesen: “Then there’s those arms, the envy of a lot of British women....”
— NBC’s Today, March 31. [66 points]

Media Hero Award

“I’m honored to be joined today by the Godfather of Green, the King of Conservation: Former Vice President Al Gore.”

Actor Denis Leary: “I do have to say that I think that President Obama is the greatest President in the history of all of our Presidents, and that he can do no wrong in my book. So how’s that for prejudice on the Democratic side?”...
Fill-in host Joy Behar: “What do you think of Obama’s pick of Sotomayor?”
Leary: “Fantastic!”
Behar: “You love her?”
Leary: “Everything you ask me about President Obama I’m just going to say it’s the greatest thing ever. I love the guy!”

Quote of the Year

“Mary Jo wasn’t a right-wing talking point or a negative campaign slogan....We don’t know how much Kennedy was affected by her death, or what she’d have thought about arguably being a catalyst for the most successful Senate career in history....[One wonders what] Mary Jo Kopechne would have had to say about Ted’s death, and what she’d have thought of the life and career that are being (rightfully) heralded. Who knows — maybe she’d feel it was worth it.”

Interestingly enough, the same area where Abdulmutallab was seated on Flight 253 (seat 19A) was covered with residue from the same explosive (PETN) on TWA 800 (see below).

The New York Times even reported it...

CBS News Goes Beyond Bias in Obama Article

Obama’s role for the Left: Mood Ring [Darleen Click] UPDATED

Some of Jeff Goldstein’s more disingenious and dishonest critics of his work in intentionalism would have you believe the subject too esoteric to be of any use in “real” life — “normal” people just wouldn’t “get it.”

However, “normal” people do get it when anything they say or do — as long as it is in disagreement with Leftist dogma — is summarily dismissed as racism

For years now, those on the left have conflated resistance to any item of their agenda–high taxes, extravagant spending, laxity on crime, what have you–with motives of a dark nature: racism, nativism, fear of “the other,” and various species of “hate.” Ronald Reagan’s election in 1980, a reaction to overregulation, stagflation, and the foreign policy failures and weakness of one James Earl Carter, was described as the bigots’ revenge for the civil rights era. The midterm elections of 1994, a reaction against Hillarycare and the Clintons’ malfeasance, were seen as a Confederate renaissance. After Bill Clinton was impeached for lies under oath (and terminal tackiness), his allies floated the theory that some of the votes against him came from Southern conservatives, because he was friendly to blacks. (As the “first black president”–vide Toni Morrison–Clinton was fond of this sort of rhetorical legerdemain until 2008, when his wife ran against a real black for president, and these tactics were turned against him.)

But it was the appearance in 2009 of the real first black president that lifted this theme to a whole new level: The left, which invented first “hate speech” (opinions they didn’t like) and then “hate crimes” (crimes judged less on the criminal’s actions than on what he was presumed to be thinking), has now gone on to its epiphany, which is “hate” defined not by your words or deeds but by what other people have decided you really think. “Hate” is no longer what you do or say, but what a liberal says that you think and projects on to you. You are punished for what someone else claims you were thinking. It hardly makes sense, but it does serve a political purpose. You could call it Secondhand Hate.

We know why the Left engages in such dishonest tactics; our real fight is with our own self-identified “allies”, the Frums or Parkers or Brooks, who tut-tut and decry the opposition to the Obama Administration as unseemly, raising a pinky finger or a well-groomed eyebrow over rhetoric they deem too harsh against a “good man.” What drives them to lecture on bi-partisan collegiality appears less than the oft declared pragmatism and more the base, human emotion of wanting to belong to the “winning” team. American Left dominated media, entertainment, government and higher education doesn’t leave a lot of room for dissenters to actually dissent and be taken seriously. Example one: witness how the sexual slang term “teabagger” is now considered acceptable amongst Left dominated media. Example two: the media’s non-coverage of Dem Senator Max Baucus’ drunken behavior on the Senate floor or his L’Affaire Hanes.

In the midst of volley after volley of “you oppose Obama only because he’s black!” it really isn’t surprising to see many of the higher profile cocktail circuit “conservatives” try to preserve their parlor poodle status. What is surprising is that too many in the so-called conservative blogsphere would want to emulate them. How risible does the Left push of their race card have to be:

At Salon, Joan Walsh said, “Wilson’s shriek [it was more like a mutter] served as an exclamation point on an undeniable trend: Obama steadily lost support among white voters during this long, hot summer of hate.”

Could Obama’s support have dwindled because middle America had become estranged, then appalled, by the spiraling deficits and Obama’s health care proposal? Certainly not. It was because the right wing somehow “blackened Obama,” informing people who might not have noticed that the president was not all that white. “I started thinking opponents were blackening Obama back in July, after the racial drama of the Sotomayor hearings,” Walsh said. In fact, that “racial drama,” such as it was, was the work of Democrats who stressed Sotomayor’s ethnic background to appeal to Hispanic voters. But to Walsh it evoked the ethnic background of Barack Obama, which must have ticked off–again–all those evil conservatives. “There’s no denying, he got blacker to a segment of the white population,” Walsh asserted.

Really? By Walsh’s logic, Obama must have been light beige through much of the summer of 2008 (when he held a slight point lead over McCain), then become a bit browner after the Republican convention (when McCain led by a bit), then lightened again at the financial meltdown in mid-September, and become moon-like in his paleness by Election Day, when he carved out a seven-point win. From then, he must have turned pearl-white by his Inauguration, at which point he was approved of even by people who voted against him and basked in favorable ratings of nearly 70 percent. Then, in late spring, he once more grew darker, a trend that continues. Or perhaps his approval ratings simply fell because he was a man trying to govern from the left in what is and remains a center-right country? Perish the thought.

… before people finally reject this self-serving supplantation of intentionalism with judgment by perception?

******************************************

UPDATE: Twatwaffle Andrea Mitchell plays the latest race card

NBC’s Andrea Mitchell insisted the “Obama Doctrine” has “borne fruit,” but “it is not perceived yet” — though the President has already “united the world behind the United States.”

Citing all those who “camped out” for the Sarah Palin book signings, Mitchell denigrated her appeal as evidence of how “they are so hungry for a symbol for anyone who can give them answers” it shows “there’s an anger out there” she hasn’t seen since George Wallace in 1968. And that, she maintained, “is the angry populism which is not fact-based, it’s just furious at everybody; angry at Democrats, at Republicans.” (Apparently, favoring conservative policies and rejecting liberal big government spending is “not fact-based.”)

Very few Americans realize there exists a large network of far left philanthropists and foundations in America dedicated to destroying the American way of life, our Christian-based culture and our free enterprise system.  They seek to remove America from its constitutional foundations and move it toward a European-style socialism.  Much of this effort is coordinated by a little known group called the Tides Foundation and its related group, the Tides Center.

Back in January, before he signed his failed $787 billion stimulus bill into law, Barack Obama told America that everyone must sacrifice for the greater good. Everyone must have “some skin in the game.”

What he meant, of course, was that everyone would have to sacrifice to lift American out of the worst recession since the Great Depression except for Barack and Michelle Obama.

This week the Obamas are staying at an $8.9 million estate for an estimated $4000 per night.
Kristinn at Free Republic reported that First Lady Michelle was photographed last night in Hawaii wearing $635 per pair designer shoes by Maison Martin Margiela.

The shoe style is called “Leather open toe flat pumps.” It features a “thin nude leather strap across the top of the toe.”

( "I don't care what anyone says- I ain't hittin' on a chick that wears the drapes and furniture..." "That dress doesn't need accessories- it needs end tables..." )

Remember: Everyone must sacrifice.

The TSA’s obsession with fighting the last war is so strong that I expect any day to see them building wooden forts at our nation’s airports in order to keep the redcoats at bay.”

ROGER SIMON: Fire Janet Napolitano Now.

SO, MAX BAUCUS WASN’T DRUNK, because Joe Biden had an aneurysm?

And — though this is an aside, and not really relevant — if Biden is a teetotaler, as Weigel says, what’s he being served in this White House video? Or was the beer just for show, to bolster his “ordinary guy” credentials?

MAYOR BLOOMBERG’S WAR ON GUN RIGHTS: A summary.
I have obtained a copy of Bloomberg’s secret “Blueprint for Federal Action on Guns” which is really a blueprint for how the Obama Administration can screw gun owners without needing anything from Congress. Chuck Michel is responsible for filing to FOIA request to get this one out and public where it belongs. This was the infamous 40 recommendations that the Washington Post reported on a few months ago. It this document doesn’t convince you that MAIG is a significantly more serious threat than any other gun control organization out there, nothing will. Whoever wrote this knows ATF very well, and understands federal gun laws well enough to know how to effectively make changes using only administrative and regulatory changes, which do not require action from the US Congress...There can be no doubt now that MAIG is a gun control group, and a particularly dangerous one.

They have glossed over climate-gate because they are all invested in the narratives which empower the state, AGW being just one of many crises with which to justify unlimited intervention. (A series of daily-ish roundups of the day's Climate news and commentary.)

This is by no means a comprehensive recap. The stories come from a variety of sources, and I highly recommend exploring the linked sites for more breaking news.

(after the break...)

The biggest story on a fairly quiet Climate day is from the hurt butts in D.C.

Senate Democrats apparently feel they have sacrificed enough for Obama, and are telling him to give up on Cap & Tax for 2010.

Providing health insurance for a tiny percentage of Americans apparently was more important to them than saving Gaia, so they shot their political wad on pissing off the 80% of the public that was pretty ok with their current health insurance.

As my best friend Uncle Rug always says: "Never underestimate the stupidity of the average politician. And never, ever, trust a fart." Which I think is redundant.

As so many have pointed out so often: Maybe we'll start believing AGW is a crisis if the elders of the church of Gaia actually started acting as though it were.

From the AoS headlines, Arthur K unveils his Scottish brogue to soften the harshness of his denial-fascism, linking an article about German physicists who have a bone to pick with AGW Sciencytists over the liberties they have taken with the laws of Thermodynamics.

Among the observations include one that has bothered me the first day I heard the term "Greenhouse Effect": The Earth is not a closed system, so "Greenhouse" is a terribly inappropriate term.

Also (and to dumb it way down): the inconvinient fact lost on AGW Warmists that an ice-cube's warmth relative to zero doesn't increase the heat of the drink it is put into.

The title of the paper pulls no punches. Falsification of The Atomspheric CO2 Greenhouse Effects Within The Frame Of Physics.

WUWT stories:

Weather records on the endangered list:

877 snowfall records broken last week.

And NOAA announces October the third coldest on record in the US, with December looking to continue the frigid trend, prompting Anthony to note:

It has often been said that “Weather is not climate”, but ultimately it provides the only meaningful way to verify climate models.

Obviously he hasn't learned the hardest of hard rules in Climate science: Proxies trump all data.

JoNova offers a nice poster produced by Mohib Ebrahim that covers 3 decades of Climate shenanigans.

10 krak, I enjoy these round-ups. You missed a good story though -- the trail of the leaked emails from Russia to Malaysia, and potentially the Chinese being behind it. Jack Cashill: The Left's Blind Eye to the Obvious

The approach of the new year might be an appropriate time to summarize what I have learned in researching the several books and articles that I have written this decade. That I came to own -- or even break -- many of the stories involved, although satisfying to me, should appall any ordinary citizen.

These stories were too big for a responsible media to miss.  They became mine as a result of what I call the "ABETTO Syndrome."  For at least the last generation, the left in general, and the media in particular, have been turning A Blind Eye To The Obvious -- ABETTO. Here are some nuggets the media chose not to notice. These are all thoroughly and inarguably documented.

  • More than half of those incinerated during Janet Reno's tank attack at Waco on April 19, 1993 were ethnic minorities -- 39 out of 74, to be precise. Six of them were Hispanic, six of Asian descent, and a full 27 of them black, ages six to sixty-one. They did not commit suicide.
  • About a third of the Jonestown dead did not commit suicide either. Three-year-olds typically don't know how. Authorities dumped the bodies of more than 250 of these children, most of them black, into a mass grave in Oakland's Evergreen Cemetery. There they lie to this day, unsung and unmourned because they serve no useful political purpose.
  • They serve no purpose because their killer, James Jones, was a self-professed "communist" in deep with a slew of leading Democrats -- George Moscone, Harvey Milk, Willie Brown, Jerry Brown, and even Rosalynn Carter and Walter Mondale. Moscone appointed Jones to the Human Rights Commission and then to the chairmanship of the city's Housing Authority.
  • All witnesses who saw Timothy McVeigh on the morning the Murrah Building blew up saw him with a short, swarthy fellow. According to the Washington Post, a judge detained McVeigh without bail "after listening to four hours of testimony from FBI special agent John Hersley in which he described eyewitness accounts of a yellow Mercury with McVeigh and another man inside speeding away from a parking lot near the federal building."
  • Deputy Attorney General Jamie Gorelick, the so-called "field commander" of the Oklahoma City task force, played an even more aggressive role managing the TWA Flight 800 investigation a year later. The Clintons appear to have rewarded her for her steely performance with the vice-chairmanship of Fannie Mae, a job for which she had no known credentials.
  • Six years and about $25.6 million in salary and bonuses later, Gorelick responded to the call of duty once more and took one of five Democratic seats on the 9-11 commission.
  • By the FBI's own count, no fewer than 270 eyewitnesses gave formal reports to the FBI describing a red-tipped object with a smoky contrail striking TWA Flight 800. About a hundred witnesses tracked the object from the surface. Astonishingly, the New York Times would interview none of them.
  • Four weeks after the disaster, the Times' Don Van Natta would report, "Now that investigators say they think the center fuel tank did not explode, they say the only good explanations remaining are that a bomb or a missile brought down the plane."
  • Likely under White House pressure, and without any new evidence, the FBI immediately shifted its storyline away from a missile to a bomb, and a month later, from a bomb to a mechanical failure. The Times reporter who got the call to document both shifts was Andy Revkin, the same reporter at the center of the Climategate scandal.
  • Bizarrely, Richard Clarke, Clinton's anti-terror czar who knew next to nothing about aircraft technology, claimed to have discovered the official cause of the TWA 800 crash months, if not years, before the NTSB did.
  • Clinton Commerce Secretary Ron Brown was dispatched on his fatal plane flight that same election year, 1996, for no more noble a purpose than to broker a sweetheart deal between the neo-fascist president of Croatia and the Enron Corporation.
  • The Air Force concluded that the controlled descent of Brown's USAF plane into a Croatian mountainside was "inexplicable." The maintenance chief responsible for the airport's navigation system showed up with a bullet hole in his chest the day before his Air Force interview.
  • Brown's fatal head injury struck the forensic photographer and attending pathologist as having the size and shape of a gunshot wound. He was nonetheless buried (over the protest of the pathologists) without an autopsy. The photographer and three Armed Service pathologists would sacrifice their careers going public with their discontent. The major media reported close to none of this.
  • As the Nation of Islam plotted to kill "heretic" Malcolm X, Malcolm's wife Betty Shabazz approached the one person with the clout to dissuade Malcolm's fellow Muslims. "You see what you're doing to my husband, don't you?" she pleaded. Muhammad Ali blew her off, saying, "I'm not doing anything to him." Malcolm was gunned down shortly thereafter.
  • If a young Ali jeopardized his liberal chic by betraying Malcolm X, a reformed Ali risked it again when he publicly supported Ronald Reagan and even attended the Republican National Convention. Who would have guessed?
  • Alex Haley plagiarized his Pulitzer Prize-winning non-fiction bestseller, Roots, from a book written by white novelist Harold Courlander, who sued Haley for damages. Midway through the trial, the judge threatened to charge a dissembling Haley with perjury unless he settled, which he did for big bucks.
  • Sorry, Virginia, but there was no Kunta Kinte. Writing in the Village Voice, literary detective Philip Nobile would call Roots "one of the great literary hoaxes of modern times."
  • Speaking of the literary hoaxes, not a single one of the scores of mainstream book editors who reviewed Christopher Andersen's Barack and Michelle: Portrait of an American Marriage chose to notice Andersen's most newsworthy revelation: "In the end, [Bill] Ayers's contribution to Barack's Dreams From My Father would be significant -- so much so that the book's language, oddly specific references, literary devices, and themes would bear a jarring similarity to Ayers's own writing."

For the more explosive of these stories -- the death of Ron Brown, the destruction of TWA Flight 800, the Ayers' involvement in Obama's Dreams -- I made every effort to alert the mainstream media. I talked in person to many reporters and producers, including a few household names, and offered to share what I had gathered. To a person, they did not want to know.

Criteria for an 'educated' person

By jove, I believe I’ve found the perfect description of Obama, those who voted for him and those with whom he has surrounded himself (not to mention Algore and HIS Kool-Aid drinkers).

“(…) the spread of secondary and latterly tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well-developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.” — P.B. Medawar
