Obama reviews Bush orders on stem cells, drilling

WASHINGTON – President-elect Obama's transition chief said Sunday the incoming administration is looking to reverse President Bush's executive orders on stem cell research, oil and gas drilling and other matters.

John Podesta said the president can use such orders to move quickly without waiting for Congress to act, highlighting the extraordinary powers a president can wield beyond signing legislation approved by Congress. Podesta said people should expect Obama to use those powers to reverse many policies of the Bush administration.

"I think across the board, on stem cell research, on a number of areas, you see the Bush administration even today moving aggressively to do things that I think are probably not in the interest of the country," Podesta said in a broadcast interview.

"There's a lot that the president can do using his executive authority without waiting for congressional action, and I think we'll see the president do that," Podesta said.

President Bush has limited federal spending on stem cell research, a position championed by opponents of abortion rights. Obama has supported the research in an effort to find cures for diseases such as Alzheimer's.

I am one of those who felt that Pres. Bush had not gone far enough in protecting innocent human life in his decision about embryonic stem cell research. Boy, am I going to miss those days or what?

And he has the Congress to do it.

This is why I’m pissed at all the conservatives that stayed home in ‘06 and ‘08. “To send the GOP a message.” Jeez, now the most vulnerable and innocent among us are in danger. I can understand a liberal has no love for vulnerable babies, but come on conservatives. This is both the fault of the GOP, via the rinos, and the people that stayed home. Now we get a leftist/socialist government. (sorry, I had to vent, but to me abortion is an issue where I will never give an inch.)

I agree with you 1000%!

1/2 the country stands passively by while innocents are murdered. Some people can be convinced of anything - as we saw in Germany. And yes, I think “pro-choice” is a holocaust.

So what? If the media were honest, they would have trumpetted the fact that science has already surpassed the need for embryonic stems cells. It was too good an issue to use against the GOP. The position appears to be anti-science and freedom limitting.
The GOP would be smart to abandon this dead horse and jump on the "me too" bandwagon.

If he puts offshore oil drilling off-limits again, and the price of oil immediately shoots back up fifty bucks a barrel, will the public give a crap?

Will they even know why?

Look for gas prices to rise quickly next summer when people start driving more and supplies shrivel. The Great Spreader then can explain why gas prices are so high. Naturally he’ll blame those greedy oil companies and levy windfall taxes on them. Watch supplies dry up some more. Hello gas lines and rationing. Which is of course what the leftists want.

Obama is for murder, destroying traditional marriage and increasing our dependence on foreign oil. He’s Hitler reincarnated.

We are so screwed.

What does the typical leftist do when his policies and programs don't produce the desired results?

More of the same. When they still don't work, the programs go from voluntary to mandatory. Anyone who resists becomes an "enemy of the state" or for the more left leaning like You Know Who, an "enemy of the proletariat"

Even Hitler did not want to depend on independent "foreign sources" for oil. He took over Romania, and invaded the Caucuses, primarily for the oil, and other raw materials. Ditto the Japanese, who took over the Dutch East Indies (ie Indonesia and others) for the oil, and attack us at Pearl Harbor to keep us from stopping them.

Obama’s already on record saying he wants higher gas prices to force us into “alternative fuels”, so it’s all part of the plan.

The Democrats will explain that, under Bush and the evil Republicans, higher gas prices were BAD because the profits went to the evil oil companies. But under Democratic Socialism, higher gas prices are GOOD because the profits will be spent to buy windmills and wooden shoes for The People.

Nice job there, evangelicals who voted for Hussein! Your choice is going to codify the creation of human life so it can be DESTROYED.

How biblical. < /sarcasm>

"Thinking" is far too kind a word for what half of this country does with their heads...
