One of the big reasons Obama won is the latino vote

Posted on 11/09/2008 6:02:51 PM PST by mathwhizz

The demographics are frankly killing us.

Kerry won the latino vote 53%-44% four years ago. Obama won the latino vote 67%-31%.

Obama won the latino vote in Florida for the first time ever.

Obama vastly increased his share of the latino vote in Colorado, New Mexico, and Nevada. If McCain wasn't on the ticket, Arizona would have been very competitive as well.

And we probably got another decade before Texas becomes a purple state unless we reverse the trends here.

Bush won Texas by 23% with Kerry getting 50% of the latino vote. McCain won it by 11% with Obama getting 63% of the latino vote.

It's a problem. What's the solution?

“Proof of your statement would be Tancredo’s primary success?”

Naaaah.
Proof of that statement is that the biggest supporter of amnesty in the entire US Senate(even more than Obama), John McCain, got clobbered by the Latino vote, even while not getting enough of the conservative vote.
Saying Tancredo didn’t do well in the primaries because of immigration, would be like saying Dennis Kucinich didn't win the Dims nomination because he wasn't left win enough. Minor candidates like Tancredo and Dennis Kucinich simply don't do well in primaries. Immigration's got nuthin' to do with it.

One of the reasons he won the vote - not everywhere, btw - is that the Dems have dedicated millions of dollars and lots of work to getting the Latino vote. We have done nothing except announce that all Hispanics are illegal aliens and we don’t like them. So who are they going to vote for? The GOP? I don’t think so.

We don’t win by pandering with liberal policies such as amnesty but we also don’t win by ignoring hispanics or insulting their culture. The conservative message transcends culture.

Many hispanics work very hard. They don’t want socialism. Conservatives need to reach out to this group. The left does reach out and paints the right as being anti immigration, when we’re anti illegal immigration. They paint conservatives as uncaring bigots. Many hispanics are family-oriented, church-going and pro-life. If they are the working poor, they see the freeloaders and don’t like it. They know that illegal immigration hurts them the most. An illegal can come in and do their job cheaper! I believe the GOP can win the hispanic vote. And we should try.

Dick Morris had once said a few years ago that once latino voters become a bigger voting bloc than African-Americans, that Republicans will never see the White House again.

We lost the Hispanic vote forever because of the LaRaza, ACORN sponsored Immigration riots/Demonstrations of the summer of 2006.

Democrats have them CONVINCED that unless they vote for them, they will ALL be deported.

Latinos should be conservatives. For the most part they are hardworking, believing Christians, oppose abortion and reject the morals of Hollywood”

Yup.
I know a lot of Latinos, and most of them are exactly that. Hard working, religious, anti-abortion.
In California, most Latinos(and blacks), voted against making gay marriage legal.

“The truth is that there are many conservatives that are truly anti-Latino. Here at FR, there are many that always equate Hispanics with illegals, or believe that Hispanics vote Democrat because they are looking for handouts. Honestly, it can be very offensive, and I completely understand why it is presumed that Hispanics are not welcome.”

Bingo. John McAmnesty is one thing. ‘Juan’ McCain or ‘Jorge’ Bush as an insult is stupid stupid stupid.
I was very proud of Rush when he decided to have a monologue in Spanish to respond to the Obama ad against him.

any of the Texas Hispanics have lived there since the Alamo.

Same for many Hispanics in California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado. Those long time American Hispanics hate the recent wetbacks.

GOP should go after the Catholic Hispanic vote AND the Hispanic anti-illegal immigrant vote.

It’s too late! Illegal immigration was hardly an issue in the campaign, because Juan obviously could not attack it. It exists because politicians want votes, businesses want cheap labor, and Jorge Bush went all out to thwart any efforts to get the fence built or place more INS agents on the border. Even let Ramos & Campion languish in prison all this time. If he does not pardon them before he leaves office, then I for one will truly hate this man.

“Democrats have them CONVINCED that unless they vote for them, they will ALL be deported.”

This is a perfect example of how to drive away legal Hispanics. Those of us that are here legally are not worried about being deported. We have families and we worry about the same things that most other conservatives worry about.

Hispanics vote Democratic because they feel that Conservatives do not respect them, and do not welcome them into the party, even if they have conservative views. They will continue to do so, until something is done to change things. We need to think before posting such stupid comments.

“What’s the solution?”

This will be controversial. Whites need to redevelop some racial consciousness. America would not be the great country that it currently is if it were not majority white. If, tomorrow, whites became the same on average as hispanics (or worse, blacks) in terms of education, criminality, and family values, the U.S. would immediately become a Third world country. It’s not a coincidence that groups with higher rates of anti-social behavior also have lower IQs on average. According to current trends, America is gradually becoming a Third world country.

Having redeveloped racial consciousness, whites should do the simplest thing to keep America majority white — HAVE MORE CHILDREN. There should not be an amnesty for illegal immigrants, and legal immigration should be targeted towards the most skilled people around the world, who will disproportionately be white and Asian. The welfare state should be made less generous in order to discourage unskilled immigration. The only positive demographic trend I see is that conservative whites are having more children than liberal whites, and some research says political orientation is partly hereditary.

The reason racial consciousness among whites (but not among any other group) has become taboo, of course, is because it has played a role in such past evils as slavery and Jim Crow laws. Being proud of one’s race needs to coexist with a belief in being fair to people of all races who are currently in your country, even if you don’t want to invite more of them.

BTW I am of Indian origin. It’s obvious to me that my children will be better off in a country that is majority white rather than majority (black + hispanic). Policies designed to bring the underperforming minorities up to the level of whites (or more accurately, whites down to their level) such as

(1) affirmative action in college admissions
(2) getting rid of standardized tests
(3) taxing intact families with productive people to subsidize broken ones with unproductive people
(4) punishing savers and rewarding deadbeats

will also tend to punish Indian-Americans.

None of my policy recommendations have any chance of happening under Democratic control of Presidency and the Congress.

McCain would be President now is he took the side of 75% of the American people and came out against amnesty. It would have differentiated him from Obama.

He didn’t. 63 million voted for Bush in 2004. 57 million voted for McCain. That’s 6 million who didn’t show up because of McCain’s position on amnesty, ANWR drilling, judges, and campaign finance.

The RINOs got their man, and Americans got Obama.

Then a lot more Anglos would need to learn/perfect their Spanish. You can't communicate if you don't speak their language. Look, the numbers are hardly encouraging. We are being overrun, and remember it isn't just Mexicanos coming over the border--there is a "corridor" running from Africa down to Venezuela in SA thence up thru Mexico, and a whole industry caters to selling US SS#s, ID cards, DLs etc.

Is there any large city in this country whose mayor has not declared sanctuary for illegals? Most immigrants are poor and hungry and work very hard, but the others come over too--the drug dealers, the gangs, the psychopaths; in sanctuary cities police are told to leave them alone! (more crime makes good stats for federal handouts). We shouldn't have to be even talking about the percentage of illegal votes, it shouldn't exist.

That’s odd. John McCain tried to give them amnest. They sure aren’t very loyal, are they?

Mexicans will vote for the party that GIVES them the most handouts. PERIOD.

The only thing that’s been pushing the illegals back where they came from is the economy. If we withdraw as much financial resources as possible from the system, we keep it weak and unattractive to them. Since the Obamunists are crying for “pie” we cut off the ingredients.

No we haven’t. I’m a young conservative Latino/Hispanic, whatever. Yes, racist organizations like La Raza have a step up from us, but we can and will catch up and beat them.

As I have said before in the forum, the way to a Latino conservative majority is through conservatism. The Latino vote favored Bush and Reagan, to some extent, because they “spoke” our language and treated us with respect. All McCain has done is pander to us and not offered any solutions, beyond sing kumba ya with Ted.

Part of the rebuilding of the conservative movement is reaching out to all conservatives, especially in the urban areas. This is where most of the Latino vote is, and when we start making real inroads there, we’ll see Cali come back home to conservatism. We’ll see the West become strongly conservative.
