Scientific documentation and ramifications of global cooling from both human as well as natural causes.
Proponents of this view of "global cooling" claim is that the world is not warming as often alleged, but it has in fact been cooling recently.
For example, on October 31, 2008, Bob Tisdale commented:
"If the Antarctic is getting warmer, as claimed, than why has the ice cover there increased by far more than that 'lost' at the arctic? If the arctic is loosing ice at an 'increasing rate', than why has this year seen record early ice formation and record extent? If the earth is getting warmer, than why have record low temperatures and record early snowfalls been occurring across the Northern hemisphere this year (and temperatures becoming lower for the last 5 years)?" We must bear in mind that natural cycles go up and down like a saw-tooth. Though we might be on a short-term downward trend, the more important question or issue is where the longer-term trend is headed.
In bringing attention to this "cooling" camp of thought, we at PES Network do not intend to imply that the need for renewable energy solutions is any less significant. There are an abundant number of good reasons to go renewable, not just to avert "global warming."
OK, I'll bite. What are these good reasons to go with green energy? Why not list them?
Nice chart.

Well, the point of my post was to provide the link to this database of articles and websites that discuss global cooling but this particular site, peswiki, is dedicated to alternative energy so I guess that’s why they put the disclaimer in there.
The guy who runs the site has written an editorial on the site stating he doubts the global warming alarmists and I guess providing this compilation of articles and websites is his contribution to that end. Go to the website. You’ll find hours of reading there that provide useful material in debunking global warming.
based on your chart (nice chart) it is warmest near DC.
I think I know the source of this hot air!
Scientists back in the 70s were screaming global cooling!
Now for the past several years people have been talking about the disappearing ozone and “global warming”.
It seems slightly reminiscent of the Chicken Little scenario: “The sky is falling! The sky is falling!.”
Bottom line... the earth goes in cycles.
Wasn’t this past Summer cooler than normal? Not a word in the media.
Here are examples of some of the articles available at the site:
Next decade ‘may see no warming’

World heading towards cooler 2008

Glaciers are growing around the world, including the United States

The Pacific northwest is the only “liberal” area getting significantly cooler temperatures. The rest of the liberal coasts and high density areas are experiencing warmer temperatures.
The people in the Midwest, for the most part, already do not believe in global warming.

Thanks. I think I could write articles myself, having studied this for several years now.
Indeed it does and IMHO the MAIN reason for these cycles is: Drum roll please............THE SUN! Ta da!
Didn’t see much of this either.
Here, from NOAAs National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), is a list of these new or tied records for October 29th, 2008.
I find the -25 below in Alaska interesting, since it bested the old record by 4 degrees.
Here are the 115 new or tied low temperature records:
or Here are 163 new or tied lowest high temperature records for October 29th, 2008
I will preface this by saying that Global Warming, and in particular anthropogenic GW, is utter hooey. Having said that, it is consistent to say that Antarctica is both warming and seeing increased ice/snow coverage. By and large, Antarctica is a desert, and receives almost no precipitation. This is due in large part to the atmosphere: it is so cold there that the air simply can’t hold moisture. Warmer air will contain more moisture, and consequently will produce more precipitation, thus boosting the ice coverage. It seems counterintuitive, until you understand that there is a lower bound to the temperature at which snow can occur.
You got it. It ain’t the heat it’s the humidity that gets ya! :)

Heat island effect countering natural cooling.
For a long time I have not worried about the current solar minimum. It happens every eleven years, but this one has gone on a year longer than normal. There was a small sunspot a few days ago that looked like it was high enough in the upper hemisphere to be a sunspot for a new cycle, no one knows. If the sunspots don't get back to normal soon I am afraid that we will be worrying about dramatically lower temperatures. In the 1820’s when this happen there were frosts in July and August in NY. If we don't have a growing season we won't be able to feed ourselves. I'm afraid that cold is much worse than hot.
“...I’m afraid that cold is much worse than hot...”
Of course it is! There are benefits to warming, such as longer growing seasons, areas now too cold for crops would be usable, etc.
Look for folks to scream about the cold this winter. It looks like it will be a brutal one.
It's not the earth, it's the SUN. 1995 to 1998 were the last three years of a solar maximum, in the middle of a sunspot cycle. We're now in a time between sunspot cycles. The old one has finished, but the new one is relatively weak, so the longer it's weak, the less warming happens on earth.
Folks who actually do SCIENCE are predicting a solar minimum around 2030, that may even rival the Maunder and Dalton minimums, which created mini ice ages in the Middle ages and the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Remember Valley Forge, the ice on the Delaware that Washington had to go through on Christmas Morning to surprise the Hessians, and Londoners skating on the Thames?
Look for folks to scream about the cold this winter. It looks like it will be a brutal one.
According to the Farmer’s Almanac it will be a brutal winter for the US except for the Southeast. I’m glad to be a current resident of the Southeast. ;^)
If we don’t have a growing season we won’t be able to feed ourselves
There was another post today with the news that corn and soybean harvests are underperforming this year. The reason? Late spring planting and a cooler than normal winter.
Thanks!
The earth does go in cycles, its just cycles caused by the sun. I guess I should have expounded more on that. ;)
The earth goes in cycles is exactly right. How do we reverse or put a stop to the global warming hoax? Seems like it is full steam ahead.
The libs are so extreme. Where have they been before this, throwing garbage out their windows?
—The save a watt generation...: )
