These seem pretty multisylabic for quick and important radio communication.
Not only that, but they're lacking in any hard syllable sounds to cut through chatter, static, and “garbage”.

On second glance, it almost looks like some old WWII fighter pilot made them up. Remember how they used to use names with lots of “L” and “R” sounds to keep the Japanese from sending false transmissions?

I always thought that name showed respect and affection on the part of the secret service. Those guys are no sissies, and a tough sounding name like that would not be given to someone they didn't think deserved it. I'm sure The Gipper loved it also.
