The reason is not so much for secrecy, but to prevent misunderstanding who is being talked about. A single code name is better that several different versions of Mr Bush, President Bush, George Bust, The President. This was everyone uses the same word.

Kinda stupid. Code names are supposed to be small and easy to remember.
Renegade ... Barack. So let's replace an easy name with something with an extra syllable.
Rennaissance ... Michelle. Same problem.
I'm thinking Beavis and Butthead, Louis / Marie, Lenin and Peron would have been better combinations for these two.
