Skip to comments.Obama likely to escape campaign audit (What McCain was thinking ALERT)
Posted on 11/11/2008 9:26:49 AM PST by 11th Commandment
The Federal Election Commission is unlikely to conduct a potentially embarrassing audit of how Barack Obama raised and spent his presidential campaigns record-shattering windfall, despite allegations of questionable donations and accounting that had the McCain campaign crying foul.
Adding insult to injury for Republicans: The FEC is obligated to complete a rigorous audit of McCains campaign coffers, which will take months, if not years, and cost McCain millions of dollars to defend.

Someone actually thought they would? Amazing.
Yep...McCain sold Obama the rope Obama used to hang him with...
What the heck does that mean! The fraud is so great, so why bother?
I don’t think it was as much a choice as a default. Big Republican donors weren’t going to fork over millions upon millions for a lukewarm candidate, so he had to go the public funding route.
Since it’s Veterans Day, I feel it’s appropriate to thank John McCain and all veterans for their service and sacrifice. But that doesn’t erase McCains record of “reaching across the aisle” that in the end proved to be his undoing, IMHO.
Bush should issue an Executive Order calling for the Audit.
Every time I think about the idiotic monstrosity that is “campaign finance reform” I realize again that McCain deserved to LOSE...... not that the country deserves Obama/Biden, but c’mon, McCain’s “reaching across the aisle” has usually been on behalf of some of the worst crapola in our political system.
Another good reason not to take federal financing.
Yes he should. But we know he won’t.
You are far from alone in that belief.
The rules don’t apply to Nobama. He will never have to even prove he is a natural-born citizen, much less account for all his foreign campaign contributions. He will be the Ruler and there is NOTHING anyone can do against him. But the World loves him, so that’s all that matters.
McCain has my deepest sympathy.
But then, a fool and his money are soon parted.
The only silver lining here is that, effectively, there are no more campaign finance laws anymore, and we can raise as much as we want from any source, foreign or domestic, as long as we’re willing to launder it through small amounts in fraudulent credit card transactions.
The dark cloud is that the campaign finance laws are still on the books and we can count on them being used exclusively against Republicans from now on.
In a Potemkin democracy, the instruments of government are used to suppress opposition, promote right thinking and assure that the ruling elite are never challenged.
But he won't.
embarrassing? who the hell cares if it’s embarrassing? when did anyone ever care how “embarrassing” the gazillions of investigations launched at Bush were for no good reason?
Don’t they realize what a dangerous precedent this sets, for no one to even look at where all that money came from? WHAT A FRIGGIN’ JOKE
What happened to the $millions Obama got that he didn’t have time to spend?
No, it means the FIX is in and has been for months.
I for one am glad we can all go back to bashing McCain. It was really hard during the election to be enthusiastic about him. If it weren’t for Palin...
TAKE HEART! NOT ALL IS LOST! The Scotch whiskey which was distilled the year Bob Dole was whupped is now 12 years old! Should be enough to last us all throughout the storm ahead.
He also won’t pardon Ramos and Compean. He just does not give a * .

If the American people are dumb enough to elect this loony liberal, then God help us because we will need it. Kiss your civil liberties, such as they are, good bye because the move to consolidate his power will be ruthless and swift and with Nancy and Harry Kow Towing he gets a pass from congress.
His fist step will be to stifle the inevitable justice department investigation of his money machine because big money equals big corruption and his campaign reeks like Enron. Next will be free speech and guns and God knows what else then its full speed to reelection.
Be afraid my friends. Be very afraid and get yourself and as many people as you can to vote for McCain even if you wold rather chew on tin foil. The alternative would be disastrous and irreversible.

what’s good for the goose is good for the gander
SOMETHING STINKS HERE FOLKS
I hope they take every dime he has left. What a complete and total loser. Americans love a winner, and will not tolerate a looser.
This is an HISTORIC level of funk. If it ever breaks loose it will make Teapot Dome look like a tempest in a teapot. Be vigilant -- be prepared to strike fast. We may only get one chance.
So McCAIN deserved to lose because of its reform and what did OSAMABAMA deserve? To win and be POTUS as being a big cheat and liar?OK then everything is fine and YOU have what YOU deserve
A Great Lesson for ALL of us....kinda like 'reaching across the aisle to Al Qaeda'!!!!Turns out that BDS wasn't BDS after all...it was RDS! Any Republican in that chair is anathema to the new DP (Dysfunctional Party).
It is CHRIST and....guns if necessary.
Right time for brave knights
So there is no benefit for playing by the rules? Nice, Patriot makes yet another note. Christian says, goodness is its own reward.
Some of us believe that you actually could have said: “laws are still on the books and we can count on them being used exclusively against Republicans from now on.”
I think you are correct. Everything about Obama’s campaign seems to lead to the idea the man is bought and paid for by some wealthy coalition.
You state: “Obama had to know who was behind his record fundraising when he decided to forgo public funds.” I believe he knew who was behind it all prior to running. I believe he is a Marionette for a wealthy coalition of self serving purpose. I believe he knowingly lied when in the beginning of his campaign he stated he would accept Public Funding. He lied to throw off suspicions of his resources.
I’ll never forget that comment he made as a retort to the McCain camp “He doesn’t know who he is dealing with”. I thought at the time simply an egotistical jerk shooting off his mouth, but after analyzing the overall picture I see more to it. He ran a slick and costly campaign that was very well organized in every detail. That requires not only monetary backing, but (here’s the clinker) EXTREME CONFIDENCE IN THAT MONETARY RESOURCE.
Obama is loyal to some source, NOT to the people of this Nation IMO.
...it'll be easy....just look at his Cabinet. The big donors will be sitting there.
No. McCain used government funds to run his campaign...I always thought it was so stupid for a Republican to use tax payers money for campaign uses. Republicans are supposed to be small government independent people. What McCain did was suck the money out of the governments bottle and now because of that he will have to ensure that the welfare money he took (what else do you call it) will have to be scrutinized. O’Bama used volunteer money so the government does not care about it. Make sense to me.
As in “wouldn’t make a damn bit of difference”?
This just in ... McCain is a dope.
There are still laws and the Government should care about it.
you have a SEVERE problem with basic reading comprehension
NOTE TO SELF:
WHEN RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT TURN AVS OFF AND GET 100 TIMES THE MONEY, WHO CARES WHERE IT COMES FROM, IF YOU WIN, NO AUDIT...
Yeah, I cannot believe that we cannot even get an audit of Obambi’s fundraising after the fact. Of course, the damage is already done, but even now we (apparently) cannot expect the effects of turning off AVS to be properly examined by a rigorous audit.
IMHO the Republicans AND Conservative Parties had better start accepting each other or we are finished running against the Democrat Party. This election and the lack of organization has shown us that we had ALL better get our act together and fast. "Divided we fall", remember that one? None of this, my way or the highway SH!T.
McCain tried to corral Obama into accepting matching funds. What else could he do?
Oh, so the lesson to learn here is that if you get enough money from enough shady sources, and constantly lie and cover up about it, the govt. will let you go because there’s just too much volume to do a good audit. And being a DemonRat definitely helps.
But if you act in good faith and follow the rules, they’ll hound you until the day you die.
This is the exact quote I was going to comment on. It absolutely spins my head off. Justice, common sense, honesty, and moral conviction is dying. The price we will pay now and pass to our children is truly staggering. Freedom is being redefined people. Let there be no mistake about it.
It means that it’s coming very close to lock and load time.
