After every failed campaign, the losers analyze the defeat with the hope of discovering What Went Wrong so the mistakes arent repeated. Its a process that is absolutely necessary in order to learn and succeed in the future.
When the controversy started swirling before the voting had even commenced, mostly from moderate, ostensibly intellectual corners, the criticism seemed self-serving at worst and ill-timed at best. Many writers discredited themselves. Far from being foresighted (a blind man could see the direction the McCain campaign was going), they showed themselves to be opportunists with little restraint or moral courage in the face of almost certain defeat. Rather than do what they could to possibly stop the stampede, they spooked the horses.
That was two weeks ago. Today, its time for rigorous examination and assessment. And boy, are the McCain staffers, unchecked by John McCain, assessing. Here are some of their conclusions: They have decided that rather than specific failed policies (can anyone, anywhere, to this day articulate McCains plans for the economy?) or strategies (Mr. Nice Guy) or leadership (running around like a headless chicken and suspending the campaign to participate in doomed negotiations), the real problem was Sarah Palin. No rigorous self-examination. Instead, they did what the least savory sorts do: find a scapegoat.

Neither am I.
The reason he lost the election is as plain as the nose on your face.
SIMPLE...HE'S A RINO!!
“McLame is s howing his true colors”
He showed them the whole campaign...we just didn’t have another dog in the hunt so we had to hunt with what we had...pink and blue.
Thanks, I’ll do it.
Appreciate the info.
That’s ok,
I have a feeling she can fight a little dirty too if she has to.
At least she has a set of nads.
Where as obammas shelf assed wife is the one with the nads in that family.
Well put. She can handle herself...and will need to.
People need to breathe and think - for good or ill, McCain was the best available presidential nominee for this cycle, and he made the best of a tough situation by rolling the dice on Palin, who has “future leader” written all over her.
No, they don’t agree on everything, but it takes sensible people on both sides of such a deal to spread the tent wide enough to team up make a win conceivable.
Disagreers (re: McCain) - name one actual, realistic candidate (Reagan doesn’t count!) who would’ve done better in this environment.
Palin will be a force in years to come - though wait and see on 2012....70% odds that The Empty Suit gets reelected, regardless who he runs against. Painful thought.
I do and another one is Lindsey Graham. Rush was about to name Lindsey on fridays show but stopped short saying he wasn't going to name names until he is positive.
There is no such thing as ‘fighting fair’, when you are in a fight, you fight to win, even if that means kicking your opponent in the proverbial grapes.
Your statement is nonsense.
We have all watched and been disgusted through the years as our so-called leaders, officials and assorted "public figures" who, when called-out for some sort of despicable behavior, issue what we Freepers have termed a "non-apology apology", e.g. "I regret if anyone was offended by my comments" instead of "I apologize for my offensive comments".
We are all too familiar with this cowardly "non-apology apology" ploy. McCain has now added the "non-defense defense" to his repertoire. He has disgraced himself by this shameful post-election behavior.
One silver-lining in all this for Sarah Palin is that it's now painfully apparent that in losing the election she and her family have personally "dodged a bullet" and will at least be able to return to living fulfilling and meaningful lives on their own terms.
In light of how things have played-out I have no doubt whatsoever that McCain's selecting her as his running mate was nothing more than a cynical, calculated ploy to fool conservatives into rallying to him. Had he won, Sarah Palin would have fulfilled her usefulness to him. She would have been told to keep quiet, and immediately relegated to the traditional impotent, inconsequential type of Vice-Presidential roles John Nance Gardner, FDR's Vice-President once described as "not worth a bucket of warm piss".
McCain cynically used her, just as he has used everyone around him throughout his life...
I say that’s a load of crap.
He weakens Palin if he makes it look like she needs defending.
And I think its despicable attacking McCain on Veterans day.
