New York Times spoof hits the streets
Herald Sun ^ | 13 November 2008

THE US has ended the war in Iraq and indicted President George W. Bush on treason charges, The New York Times has reported. OK, well not really.

An elaborate spoof hit the streets of New York overnight - a convincing fake of The New York Times announcing not just the withdrawal of troops from Iraq but a raft of other US liberal fantasies.

Mr Bush is indicted, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice apologises that the fuss about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction was invented, and Americans are finally getting national health insurance.

And that's just on the front page.

The only problem? The free, 14-page "special edition'' newspaper - and its equally realistic looking New York Times website - are phoney.

Some 1.2 million copies of the spoof, dated July 4, 2009, were handed out.

At first glance, the parody, which uses the Times' Gothic-style font on the nameplate, could easily be mistaken for the real thing.

The NYT IS a raft of liberal fantasies. Today on my way home I saw a very disturbing bumper sticker in front of me: Abort Bush. NIIIIICE.

You know it’s phony because you’re not charged $5.00 for the rag.

Funny, Bush doesn’t even SUPPORT abortion like another prominent figure does... will we see “Abort Obama” stickers, or would that be racist?

“Rice apologises that the fuss about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction was invented”

Let's see, over 500 WMD’s found in Iraq, listed in the official report. 550 tons of yellowcake uranium, found in Iraq, and recently shipped to a processing company in Canada to be turned into power plant fuel.

Invented. Yeah, that's the right word/s.

It would be difficult to tell the spoof from the real thing.

The NYT hit another new low on its stock price today. It will be a true penny stock before long.

Some 1.2 million copies of the spoof, dated July 4, 2009, were handed out.

In other words, it's outperformed the NYT in readership!
