The United States needs more senators like Alabama's Jeff Sessions. The Republican Party needs to recruit more senatorial candidates who have that potential. And the conservative movement ought to prod the Republican Party, sooner rather than later, to do so.
First things first: Senator Sessions won election last week to a third term by a landslide margin, with 63 percent of the vote. He outpolled ticket-header John McCain in both percentage of the vote and in raw votes, even though far more votes were cast in the presidential contest than in the Senate one. He did so even though what is arguably the most conservative congressional district in the state had no House race on the ballot to help drive up conservative turnout (Rep. Jo Bonner won re-election without opposition), but its major city, Mobile, was the home base of his semi-moderate black opponent, state Sen. Vivian Figures, who benefited from an extra-heavy black turnout there and throughout the state due to Barack Obama's presence on the ballot. And Sessions did so even as Republicans in Alabama lost one U.S. House seat they had formerly held, failed to pick up the seat of a retiring Democrat that they were favored to win, and came within a whisker of losing a state Supreme Court seat they had held for years. In short, Sessions substantially outperformed the rest of the Republican ticket, which is a testament to the growing popularity of this stalwart conservative workhorse.
Sessions is no spellbinding orator. And he is no legislative wheeler-dealer. What he is, though, is a man of principle who doggedly works to put those principles into practice.

It seems that we haven’t heard very much about Sessions lately. He is wonderful! He’s smart and surrounds himself with bright staffers.
I agree,with you,before this bail-out mess started,we wrote every one of Alabama`s reps,to pls try to vote against this stupid bail-out.Mr Sessions,was the only rep to write back,explaining his position.Even though it was a form reply,we still appreciated the reply..A rep of the ppl should never forget who put them there,& who can remove them,if needed..

He is a straight shooter and was hugely popular as Attorney General of the State of Alabama.
Alabama had been a state roiled by corruption in state government by both Republicans and Dems. Sessions did a lot to help purge the thieves from the state political system including self dealing judges who were taking bribes in exchange for allowing jackpot justice lawsuits to stand.
One suit that comes to mind was against a satelite install company who supposedly “overcharged” minorities for their big dish in the yard. The overcharge was approximately $400 per installation allegedly. There was a class action with about 600 members. So the actual claimed damages were approx $240,000. The suit was filed in a rural county with a huge minority population (Lowndes County if I’m not mistaken). The jury agreed the install company was guilty and returned an award in the amount of $660,000,000. The bribed judges in the state appelate courts allowed the award to stand.
Saw Jeff on CNBC a couple of days ago complaining about the bailout and how it was being handled.
He is the best and for now, my favorite Senator. From a grateful Texan—thanks Alabama for sending Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions to the Senate.
I will never forget Sen Sessions and his leadership in the Senate in killing that Illegal Alien Amnesty bill that was pushed by John McCain...he was one of the few in the Senate that stepped up for America in that one
I think the only reason you do not hear about Sessions as much is because the liberal elements of the GOP are still in leadership. I am sure Sessions going against the bailout has not sit well with liberals in the GOP
Time to purge those liberal elements...with bloodshed if needed
Sessions, DeMint & Coburn are great prototypes for the right kind of Senators we need.

The other great thing about Sessions is that he is the same when the cameras are off as when they are on. He is as humble and down to earth as they come and would rather be eating a burger someplace than hitting the wine and cheese circuit.
Sessions is a great example of how to handle the liberal attack machine. When his nomination to be a federal judge was shot down because of unsubstantiated charges of “racism,” he didn’t get bitter and he didn’t give up. He just kept fighting and eventually ended up in the Senate.
He used to have a great editorial cartoon in his office. As I recall it, the scene is a soaking wet Sessions rising out of a lake where his car labeled “judicial nomination” has crashed. Ted Kennedy stares at him in horror from the bridge saying “Oh no, he’s back!”
Good guy for sure.
I send him emails periodically urging him to keep up the good fight and how much we appreciate him.
Shelby's usually very solid on economic issues, but Sessions is rock-solid from A to Z. It's been an honor to cast votes for him...
