Why Obama Looks Like a One Termer

Why Obama Looks Like a One Termer November 11, 2008 03:00 AM ET | James Pethokoukis |

Just "one and done" for Barack Obama's presidency? Recall an ominous passage in his otherwise joyous election-night speech: "The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even in one term." Maybe the tone was suggested by one of Obama's economic advisers like Jason Furman or Austan Goolsbee. It's the battered economy, after all, that will be President Obama's greatest domestic policy challenge.

That's right, the "O" in "Obama" may stand for "One Term." For starters, there's a strong chance that when voters head to the polls on Nov. 2, 2010, they likely will still think the economy is awful. Not much debate about that. (Good chance the Democrats' two-election winning streak comes to an end.) And while voters may be somewhat patient for two years, patient for four years? Really unlikely.

If history is any guide at all, voters may still be terribly cranky about the economy when they cast their ballots on Nov. 6, 2012 and thus likely choose the 45th president of the United States -- be it Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindal or some other Republican without "Bush" for a last name. Once again a "change" election for an impatient America. The same bad economy that doomed John McCain in 2008 will have sunk Obama, as well.

Never under-estimate the persistence of the MSM to remain in the tank and the stupidity of the American voter.

If we can tie him to abortion/anti-family, in their minds, it might be doable.

Obama wants to be a “one termer”.. One long long term of say 50 years or so.

Is this prediction based on the same formula that claimed Obama could not possibly win and that McCain will take it in a landslide? Or is it the same gut feeling from experts that the American people would be too smart to elect a Socialist? Or the one that said the polls were oversampling and that in reality McCain was in the lead? Or maybe it's the one that bragged that Bambi has peaked and it was all down-hill from here?

How'd those predictions work out?

Yes, the great American tragedy. Americans should organize and go after the advertisers of the MSM. Boycott their goods and services. Put the socialist DemoRAT MSM out of business. That would help level the playing field at election time if the MSM finally came near collapse — maybe their would hire journalists again....instead of political hacks.

I wouldn’t be so sure. After 1994, I would have guessed Clinton would have been tossed out too.

Someone posted this yesterday. I think we need to concentrate on cleaning out our party leadership and planning strategically. So many republicans told me Obama could not win, and they believed it, and they even thought congress low approval rating was a plus for us. All this while Mccain’s changes were low, and republicans in congress. Even Monday day before election Hannity was talking about how his exposing Obama’s radical friends has ‘won’ the election for McCain.

Getting the vote for criminal aliens is first of Hussein’s agenda. This will happen and they will vote for Hussein again.

What this country got a snout-full of is just how STUPID, NAIVE and selfish the electorate can be made to be, just by demonizing the “haves” and promoting the victimization of the “have-nots”. Class warfare, victimization, lies, hate — all effective tools against weak, uneducated, ignorant minds.

It worked.

There has to be a Republican comeback starting in 2010 that they can build on. Pick up even 30 seats in Congress and take few in the Senate they then have momentum.

It would be great if we could rally behind someone who stood for limited government and following what the Constitution said. Oh, they need to have a clue about finance or have a lot of good people around them who do. Screaming about amnesty because the candidate didn't demand we round up people in the middle of the night and deport en mass or looking for any other instance to eat our own needs to stop.

Lastly, would someone please run who can complete a few sentences and actually communicate some depth?

By 2012, the illegal immigrant vote will be up to 24 million. And don’t be thinking their vote won’t count.

So, remember it was W who refused to secure our borders as he led us into two wasteful wars.

I guess W wanted us to fight them there so we wouldn’t be able to fight for our country here.

By 2016, only a white liberal would be able to win the Presidency and Barack’s liberalism will long survive him because we didn’t secure our borders.

So, before anyone tells me, countries with govt run industries are moving away from that. I’ll just tell you that in the Latino and African countries, govt run everything has never moved away because of the tribal factor.

We didn’t secure the borders. I guess if America collapses the people who snuck in only for free goodies would leave. That’s wishful thinking too because if America collapses El Salvador and Mexico aren’t going to be paradises.

All we need to win are the state legislatures next year. Might even help to win some mayorships and city councils in some larger cities of course.

Ignore Governor Palin's speech ~ concerning dates ~ the campaign starts now and the next election is less than a year away!

it will take a lot more than we have to unseat this guy in 2012. with media backing, etc., he’s in there until releived.

unless he does something really stupid ala Carter, he’s got nothing to fret about. I doubt even Palin would be able to unseat him.
