Wanna understand Peggy Noonan? From the comfort of a lavender sitz bath, get hopped up on toddies and chamomile tea and whisper the thesaurus to yourself in a bedroom voice. From time to time, nibble on a cucumber sandwich--crusts removed!--and revel in memories of the time decades ago when you enjoyed your blast of relevance.

Oh, great. Like all the other guys at the gym aren't making enough fun of my floral print sun dress and kicky new ankle-strap wedgies already. ;)

re: hopped up on toddies and chamomile tea)))

While I appreciate your image (kinda puts one in mind of that character in the Potter novels who is the Professor of Divination), I think Peg's getting hopped up on Jameson, not tea.

“Everyone asks whither the Republicans, what should they do first?”

I didn’t read the whole article (I have a low gag threshold) — but she didn’t REALLY say “whither”, did she? She needs to extricate that broomstick from her cellulite-laden a$s and get over herself.

Welcome to the New Jersification of the national GOP. The mask is off the Peggy Noonans of this world. They hate the GOP base and feel more affinity with the hard left.

I say good riddance. Let's rebuild the Republican party without them.

“...she talks as if she’s saying something of incomparable profundity...”

A scary similarity to Maya Angelou. Maybe they were separated at birth.

America throws long, and the pass has been intercepted by defensive back Karl Marx and returned for a game-winning touchdown.

America loses.

Now, for a real nightmare image that'll haunt you for all the rest of your days: imagine Noam Chomsky on the sidelines, in a Dallas Cowgirls outfit. ;)

(there was appreciative laughter the other day in Houston when a speaker said wistfully that the Alaska governor may soon discover the power of silence)

Peggy: May you soon discover the power of silence.

Now that I never read your columns anymore, I have more time to enjoy the continuing luminescence of Sarah Palin - on the world stage.

Eat your heart out, Noonan.

America threw long, and America is praying for a dazzling reception. People want him to catch the ball.

"Hail Mary Pass" if you aren't being paid by the word.

I just took a look, and I see that three most prominent stories listed at the WSJ.com website are:
When Alzheimer's Disease Hits at 40
Stimulus, Auto Bailout May Be Delayed
Science of Migrating Rubber Duckies

While I was willing to tolerate the usual silly story or two on the front page, I think this is getting out of hand. When only one out of three stories "above the fold" can be considered news, well, I personally won't pay for such.

Which of of the two is it? (The middle one is obviously out as speculation on the level of phone psychic advice)
