It's been a week and a half since Barack Obama was elected president. He won't take office for another two months. But he's already got one big group of Americans on their feet.
What is Barack Obama's position on the right to bear arms? Sen. Obama's campaign Web site says he "respects the constitutional rights of Americans to bear arms." It promises he will "protect the rights of hunters and other law-abiding Americans to purchase, own, transport and use guns."
Seeking to reassure gun owners, Mr. Obama told a campaign audience in Ohio in October: "I will not take your shotgun away. I will not take your rifle away. I won't take your handgun away."
But the crowds mobbing America's gun stores this week say a large number of Americans -- including first-time gun buyers -- don't believe him.
In 2003, while serving in the Illinois Legislature, Mr. Obama voted in favor of a bill in the Judiciary Committee that would have made it illegal to "knowingly manufacture, deliver or possess" so-called "semi-automatic assault weapons," reports Chris Cox, chief lobbyist for the National Rifle Association. "Under this bill, a firearm did not actually have to be semi-automatic to be banned. According to definitions in the bill, all single-shot and double-barreled shotguns 28-gauge or larger, and many semi-automatic shotguns of the same size, would be banned as 'assault weapons.'

They don’t call him “O” for nothing!
Would that be indexed as "twanglist?" ;^)
ABC World news has a story on this. One store in Texas is sellibg $100,000 a day and could sell more if they could get it, a store in Las Vegas same thing with a twist, owner said at least half the patrons are wearing Obama pins an/or T-shirts...
His brother just went through the same thing a few months ago. I told him he needs to look into this.
Seems to me one would get a letter informing him of the change. He went before one judge ( a lady ) when he got it originally and yet the one who retired is a man.
Makes no sense, but then again this is Erie County, NY.
Yes, sir. As some say to El Rushbo, ‘Dittoes’. One round at a time.
“To a communist lying is perfectly moral and ethical, if it advances the cause of communism.”
That’s why we never trusted the Russians, either.
“reduce the recoil of my M44/7.62x54R, I have to order a better butt plate.”
about half way down the page.
I looked it up and the Taurus I bought is .38 Special (not .357)
We'll use wad cutters on the range and keep +P for home defense.
Should be adequate if a situation arose where I didn't have time to access the pump shotgun.
When he gets in and starts his crap, you may have to incorporate it into the American Flag...
The goa didn’t do a single thing during this election.
The goa didn’t do a single thing to Help the Katrina victims recover their firearms.
The goa haven’t done a single solitary thing on their own through their entire existance.
LOL...I purchased a gun for my own protection. It will be used for the protection from mobs. I purchase it from a sporting goods store.
Then buy a lower receiver if you can’t afford a complete AR.
I’m not buying guns. I’ve got guns. I’m stocking up on ammo. A gun ain’t a gun without ammo.
My husband has a gun but I’m not buying a gun...yet.
But I will be taking courses this summer how to perserve food like good old fashion canning and pickling.
I think the economy will take a dumper as Obama starts his Carter style policies that will cause more problems down the road.
Everything will be taxed to holy hell and stagnation will florish.
Watch the underground markets have a brisk business.
You got it, FRiend.
if you folks start a bow thread or list please ping me to it. it is of great interest to me, but I know very little about it.
anyone have experience with the Liberty bow? very compact and looks intriguing.
wish I knew how to link! 8-)
You got it, FRiend.
What, pray tell, are THEY planning to do with the weapons? That isn't good.
I think you mean Austrian.
Those down under are our friends and allies.
He is real close to stealing those votes!
That statement is the perfect description of the reason why we need to be ready. It is why people are buying guns and ammunition at a high rate. One would hope that they aren't needed, but if they are, one will be very glad that they have these tools.
The founders put the second amendment in the constitution for one very significant purpose. It's the reset button for the constitution. Never forget that.
Yes, they are our mates, but the roll up of their right to keep and bear was pretty gruesome.
Oh boy, FRiend, my imagination is CERTAINLY my own worst enemy, whether it be things relating to politics or my personal life.
I haven’t a clue. The gun store owner was perplexed as well.
I’ll be finding my way out to most of you FReepers from inside the belly of the beast.
Just so you know...your tagline is freaking me out.
Now how did I know you lived in NY?
Oh yeah, I live in NYC.
Along with our repressive garbage laws...
It probably should, I don’t think there’s a way he’ll “allow” us to be the way we are.
When They Come For My Gun, They'll Have To Grab It By The Barrel
What is a "pistol bureau"? I assume its a bureaucratic establishment to prevent the exact thing it is named for.
Small point in such a big problem as making sure the 2nd Ammendent means something....but we have to start insisting they name these anti-freedom bureaus for what they actually do!! How about the "Pistol Disapprovement Bureau"?
In the eventuality of having the BATF coming after your registered handgun or rifles I would think its not a bad idea to *report*your*recently*purchased*gun*as*as*stolen*.
This will not remove you from the files but if done correctly and convincingly can get you out of the spotlight for awhile.
No first plan survives enemy contact, prepare to lose any firearm eventually, if you have a big mouth more than likely someone will be tempted to turn you in for a big reward.
Consider other alternatives such as bear pepper sprays, sound/strobe flashlights, body armor and martial arts.
Knives I won’t even go there except a Leatherman multitool is suggested.
Another item of something I would consider is that if things do get really nasty and you are trying to flee a situation is that most likely you will not get shot by a bullet but by a taser.
In that case I would consider some simple protection such as a home made vest made of materials to prevent barbs from reaching your body. My fist thought would be a lightweight wetsuit, or for the budget minded a vest of inner tube rubber.
Any part of the body can get hit and it WILL shut you down.
Being winter I can think that simple wraps of shipping bubble wrap around arms and legs would help.
Laugh all you want trolls and make fun of this, which side of the tasers will you be on?
We know who you are!
Please stand by for an invasion of your privacy!
never owned a gun. Husband does not hunt. But bought my first pistol last night....and it felt good!
bump! bump! bump!
Wow, can I ask what city and state such ‘garbage police’ rule?
It’s a town outside of Buffalo, NY in EEEEERIE County called Cheektowaga.
The pistol bureau is just the department where you go to add (or delete) any of your handgun purchases/sales.
Don't feel bad...he stole it from Claire Wolfe.
That’s the one I saw just the other day. Maybe it was you who posted the link. Appears very nicely done.
Good post potlatch
“Refresh” my last post.....
It fit my M44 very nicely
I have a serious question. I've read many threads about people hiding their guns in the future. Many here are talking about recently signing up with the NRA or other gun associations.
Why expose the fact that you support and HAVE guns by signing up with these organizations?
The NRA has a huge number of voters who are family and friends of actual NRA members
These exit poll numbers are respected and/or feared by politicians - well over 65,000,000 in 2000
The NRA also has a huge influence through ads and lobbyists and training programs
It takes money to do this and NRA membership dues provide that
What is not known to most of Americans is that radical liberal democrat gun-grabber politicians and/or activists own and carry handguns themselves:
(D-NY) US Senator Chuckie Schumer
(D-CA) US Senator Diane “Di-Fi” Feinstein
(D-NY) NY Atty General Andrew Cuomo
(D-NY) has-been William Jefferson Clinton
(D-NAZI) Sarah Brady - $27,000+ a night for speaking
