COLUMBUS, Ohio – Even as Detroit's Big Three teeter on collapse, United Auto Workers President Ron Gettelfinger says workers will not make any more concessions and that getting the automakers back on their feet means figuring out a way to turn around the slumping economy.

Well there you have it. The UAW would rather have a contract and no jobs then take a cut and have jobs. Something is really wrong with this thinking, add the fact that news is getting out about their pay and benefits they could lose the PR war really fast.

Let ‘em lose their jobs. Now is the time to break this union. It’s a job killer.

The more I think about this, if the automakers can hold out until January 20th, they’re going to get the bailouts they’re asking for. Even Bush seems to be supporting the idea on his way out the door....

The public isn’t interested in the “PR” here, any more than they were interested in the PR on Obama before they voted him in....

This is absolutely asinine, but why should the UAW make any concessions? The UAW has the Dems in their back pocket and they can just sit back and wait until they get billions of taxpayer dollars in a federal bailout.

I hate labor unions.

Let O be responsible for this bailout in Jan. When the Big 3 are back again in 12 months, he and the Dem Congress will look like fools.

United Auto Workers President Ron Gettelfinger says workers will not make any more concessions

The International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America just signed its own death warrant.

I used to be a UAW member and watched this very same attitude cause the closing of the GMAD plant where I worked.

To the last, the union members had the "eff management" attitude, even in the face of GM closing the plant and laying off the entire workforce.

From my view from the inside, my opinion is that the UAW is rotten to the core. Or rather, rotten from the core...outward.

The UAW voted for ECONOMIC SUICIDE by supporting Obama, plain and simple.

As we have seen, Oh so many times over the last 30 years, the “membership” won’t really get it until the plant gates are locked behind them.

Absolutely. The Dems know this auto-maker bailout is a joke and the public is against it. That’s why they are desperate to have the Republicans sign on to it in a lame duck sessions. It looks as if the Republicans have said “screw you” (as well they should have), so it’s back to the drawing board for the Dems. In the end, when the UAW says “jump” the Dems say “how high”, so this bailout will probably be rammed down our throats, although it will be politically damaging for them.

Ron Gettelfinger is a good man with a bad union, and a bad union contract

He always tried to remove bad union rules when he was at the lower levels, and worked with us to stop featherbedding.

He doesn't pay himself much($150/year), and could do done much better in a different business.

Toyota’s said they’re not interested in GM.

Who would be? If they buy GM, they assume the union contract. Wait until after GM dies, the contracts are null and void, and hey presto...

He doesn’t support our troops - it was at his behest that the Detroit Marines had to go park elsewhere.
