CA: Governor tells staff to prepare for warming

Sacramento --

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed an executive order Friday directing state agencies to study the effects of global warming and recommend how the state needs to adapt to such changes in land use planning and building new infrastructure.

"Given the serious threat of sea level rise to California's water supply, population and our economy, it's critically important that we make sure the state is prepared," Schwarzenegger said in a written statement.

The executive order was signed after a conference Friday in Long Beach on global warming and water infrastructure that was sponsored in part by the state Department of Water Resources, said Tony Brunello, a deputy secretary for climate change and energy for the state Resources Agency.

While California has embarked on an ambitious goal to reduce greenhouse gases that cause global warming, the effects of climate change - higher temperatures, less precipitation and higher sea levels - are inevitable, Brunello said.

Two years ago, Schwarzenegger signed the landmark legislation AB32, which requires the state to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent by 2020. The California Air Resources Board, which has been charged with implementing AB32's goals, is set to consider Thursday its draft blueprint on how to limit California's greenhouse gas emissions.

"But even if we were to stop emitting greenhouse gases in California today ... the carbons that have already been emitted would still be with us and those impacts are still going to happen," Brunello said.

Turn off all the electricity to California. Duct tape the mouths of the Hollywood elite. Ban motor fuel sales. Cut down all the forests to prevent forest fires. Sounds like a plan to me.

Prepare for Global Warming ? Then it must be on its way, not here yet.

Coldest June in Seattle in Decades, and these California Squirrels think the Seas are rising . . . soon . . .maybe.

Take a walk down to a local Beach, measure the High Tide mark, repeat weekly until you “Get a GRIP” . . .Geez...

Ski resorts are open early, and nobody notices.

"CA: Governor tells staff to prepare for warming"

A good project for someone: Starting now record the AVERAGE daily high temperature in californicate and send the governators office a daily, updated spreadsheet of same.

Then, on another column in the same spreadsheet, indicate the average daily defict of the state...just to remind him that he has much more to worry about that the fables of algore. Of course, his announcement is probably just a ploy to use to ask for more Federal money to bail them out.

Oh, good God, it isn't bad enough that Bambi won the election, now the Terminator has gone crazy. What Arnold really needs to do is to stop the San Andres Fault zone from moving anymore. This will be difficult, and it doesn't matter if humans all start being vegans and abandoning all gas guzzling cars. Plate tectonics don't seem to care about that and SoCal is doomed to sucked up under the Aleutian Islands in a few hundred million years.

Cripes, people think they are so important, and we're not. We are skim on the surface of the planet we call Earth, and it's going to do just fine with or without us.

Makes one wonder what his sources of information are and what his ability to process information is. The largest drop in global temperature ever recorded occurred in the past year. All global warming since 1850 was wiped out.

Worldwide, many, if not most, glaciers are advancing and the Southern Hemisphere has been exceptionally cold. There was essentially no summer last year for South America. Antarctica continues to get colder and accumulate enough ice every year to reduce sea level. And speaking of sea level, it’s dropping, not rising. Last year, the temperature dropped in the 40’s in Cambodia and parts of Thailand, the lowest ever measured. Ever live in South East Asia like I have? Temperatures that low in that area are unimaginable. The temperature of the surface layers of the oceans worldwide have dropped significantly.

I could cite yet more data, like most readers of this thread, that would make for one very long thread by itself. The reasonable conclusion is that the Earth is getting colder, and very quickly at that.

I wonder how many people have to die before the global warmists acknowledge the obvious.

Yep... happened most Novembers of the 26 years I lived there - the locals just call it the Santa Ana winds...:^)

They even happened before oil was drilled and cars invented... from wiki...

The name Santana Winds is said to be traced to Spanish California, when the winds were called devil winds due to their heat.

Global Warming is already taught as established fact in public schools.

Global Warming is a foundation for a global tax.

Once the tax, cap and trade and all other global taxes to follow are in effect, the supporters of this propaganda will say it is the climate change policies and taxation that have kept the climate in check.

To defeat this big lie movement, we must learn to ‘organize’ as Obama has done and to ‘get in the face’ of the MSM and local school boards. The general public can still be stopped from following this scheme of taxation.

In order to organize effectively we will need leaders that can strategize and carry out tactics that will turn the tide of public opinion against this taxation scheme and others like it.

I believe we need Newt Gingrich and others like him in charge of the RNC and any other organizations where there are significant purse strings to pay for an effective ‘organizing’ of the grass roots.

It is another ploy to foist European type land and water use controls on the private property owners of California. It has already become necessary to implement Agenda 21 sustainable communities land use restrictions on local government. That means no development where there is not already a sewer, water and mass transportation system. It also means community “visioning” and resource management planning on the watershed level in the hands of environmental NGOs.

Talk about a lurch toward socialism...

Once Obama starts to make his move to raise the cost of carbon based fuels the poor are going to pay. Hopefully as there are no Repubs to blame the goof balls that thought OBwon was a centrist will recognize the Emperor Has No Clothes!

Exactly....this is about creating a cap and trade system. Currently California is one of those states that gets very little electricity from coal.

In a cap and trade system California would receive millions from other states.

The desert is known for its extremes in temperature rather than merely being hot. Due to its lack of vegetation and cloud cover for precipitation, there also is little to absorb and retain heat during the night, when it is radiated back from the desert floor.

Whereas temperature differentials may range some 20 degrees daily in woodland environments, desert environments typically swing 40 degrees daily. In the winter, it might be 60 degrees in the day, but 20 degrees at night.

In addition to the low temperature, the lack of vegetation offers no windbreak, further increasing wind chill effects.
