Last week FCI staff joined forces with several other gun rights organizations on the floor of the New Jersey state legislature to prevent the passage of A-2116, a proposed 50 caliber ban. FCI Chairman John Burtt joined Scott Bach, President of the Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs (ANJRPC) and Bob Viden, NRA Board Member to provide New Jersey legislators with accurate information on the effects A-2116 would have on the community of law abiding gun owners from that state. After two hours of testimony, the New Jersey Assembly Judiciary Committee passed A-2116 (http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2008/Bills/A2500/2116_I1.PDF) by a vote of 5-1.
As passed, the legislation will ban virtually all firearms .50 caliber and over. While the Committee attempted to address some of the concerns of gun owners and sportsmen, it still bans many popular hunting guns, historical American firearms, and large bore target firearms, based on alleged public safety concerns. Included are historical American firearms and replicas, including those from the Revolutionary War and Civil War eras. The legislation makes the fundamental mistake of banning guns based on the size of the barrel rather than punishing criminal behavior. Proponents of the ban attempted to demonize a whole class of firearms and their owners by claiming the only intent of these firearms is criminal misuse.

Anyone know the baddest weapons still currently legal in NJ? I want to get what I can before its too late.
My local shop has 6 left and one 30 round clip left. He’s letting it go for 649.00 I’m taking it.
Unless it’s a 580-series Mini-14, don’t bother. Get an AR instead.

The old Mini-14 was known to have a number of problems with accuracy, especially when it’d heated up. The 580-series is the new and revised one with most of the problems fixed. See: http://www.rifleshootermag.com/featured_rifles/rugranch_071807/index.html

Not where you live! In fact you might want to consider one of those nifty little 18” barrel models.
Only if you’re using a choke or a really short barrel.
Rule of thumb for an 18” no-choke barrel is 1” increase in spread diameter per yard of linear travel.

That's the same rule I have always used.
I suspect the boys over at the Federal Research Facility have discovered some new tricks. I did quite a bit of research on the federal WEB Site and recall something about the shot cup traveling with the shot and then being allowed to slow in velocity while the shot continued on to the target in a very tight group. Well, I guess muzzle loading hunting season is over in New Jersey (Assuming they ever had it in the first place). Seriously, what is the possibility of this actually being passed and how much news is it making in the garden state?
I see the M-1 carbine is on this list, but not the M-1. I’d love to hear the gun banners reasoning. I guess if they had their druthers, they would both be on the list.

I would have to agree with you.....However many people in NJ own lots of guns & just keep their mouths shut about them. We’ve had little choice . Hard to get permits & no carrying. If you can get a carry permit its a miracle.
