Huck unloads on Mitt; Romney camp hits back

Mike Huckabee is using his new book, out this week, to settle a few scores, not the least of which is with his fierce primary rival, Mitt Romney.

Per Michael Scherer, Huckabee picks up where he left off earlier this year, tweaking Romney as a rich guy and firing what may be the first shots of the 2012 primary.

Romney, Huckabee, writes, was "anything but conservative until he changed the light bulbs in his chandelier in time to run for president.”

At another point, Huckabee portrays a Romney proposal to encourage more investment in the market as, "Let them eat stocks!”

The former Arkansas governor also takes a shot at Fred Thompson – who ensured his defeat in the pivotal South Carolina primary – as well as those evangelical leaders who didn’t get behind his bid.

But none of these people may emerge again in four years as political rivals of Huckabee.

Asked to respond, Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom said Huckabee was acting small.

“This type of pettiness is beneath Mike Huckabee,” Fehrnstrom. “If we’re going to move the party forward, we need to offer more than personal recriminations. Unfortunately, in this book, Mike Huckabee is consumed with presumed slights, and he seems more interested in settling scores than in bringing people together.”

Oh but Huckabee is a Christian!!!! /s

Whatever. He's a jackass. Knew it from the get go. And I'm certainly not a Romney fan, but Huck is far worse. He's a Christian socialist hell bent on the 'touchy feely' crap.

He's a charlatan. Period.

If they want to truly “move the party forward” both of these clowns need to sit down and be quiet.

Remember who couldn’t even beat John McCain!

They are of the past, both of ‘em.

Huckabee would be registered at Target to decorate said box and Mitt would have an illegal sweeping the sidewalk in front of it. Obama would have given the box to Al Qaeda without a fight.

Romney is more conservative than McCain that’s for sure. Imagine if it were Romney in those debates against Obama...

Romney is more combative, more competitive, but is not conservative by any measurement, although neither is MccAin't.

Very sad. I knew Hucksterbee was a fraud, but this is just reinforcing it.”

Huckabee is setting himself up for a major fall, IMO.

No matter what soneone thinks of Mitt as a Morman, this is just not necessary.
Huckster just doesn’t get the Republican 11 commandment by Reagan, does he.

I don’t trust Huckabee. Wouldn’t vote for him if he were the only name on the ticket.

Huckabee is fine at being a talk show host and promoting The FairTaxx. Fred Thompson is better at being an actor and should go back to it. Mitt Romney ought to go back to work in business or industry.

The old guard has-beens need too make way for the new up-and-comers.

McLame and his pal Lindsey Grhamnesty are crossing the aisle to give Obama a Lewinsky and will join his global warming inititave and other big-government agenda along with the rest of the RINOS. They have their 60-seat super-majority.

Go Huckabee! Romney was McCain but without the military service, and without a pro-life or even remotely socially conservative history. No redeeming qualities, IMHO. He’d be fine in some government position where none of these things relate to his duties, but not as President!

That said, I hope none of this year’s folks come back as retreads the next time around. The GOP has a terrible tendency to run the same people over and over again, hoping at some point the electorate will forget why they didn’t like them the first time around. I like Huckabee and I’d like to see him run again, but obviously, other people don’t and the best thing to do would be to come up with other candidates altogether. Palin/Jindal!

McCain, Romney, and Huckabee are all RINOs. To argue who is more conservative is like banging your head on a brick wall.

These two guys have as much relevance as two homeless guys fighting over a cardboard box.

Please don't use analogies like this. When Romney reads this, he'll come out with some assinine plan to give out free cardboard boxes. Huckabee will want illegal aliens included in the plan.

It wasn’t Reagan who made the “Jerry played football without a helmet” crack. It was Lyndon Johnson.

I believe it was Huckabee who cost Thompson votes in S. Carolina and other southern states that could possibly have given Thompson the nomination instead of McCain. McCain won S. Carolina because the conservative votes were divided between Huckabee and Thompson. Huckabee came in 2nd and Thompson came in 3rd.

Huckabee is and always has been a ‘small’ person. He just manages to wrap it in bon mots.

This sniping right now is the last thing the GOP needs.
