Define R.I.N.O.: A Republican In Name Only.

Examples of the type of Republican covered under this definition are:

Rep. Mark Kirk [R-IL] Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen [R-FL] Rep. Michael Ferguson [R-NJ] Rep. Christopher Shays [R-CT] Rep. Michael Castle [R-DE] These five supposed Republican are nothing more than jackasses in elephant's clothing. Rep. Mark Kirk has introduced a bill, H.R. 6257: Assault Weapons Ban Reauthorization Act of 2008, which would "reinstate the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act."

There doesn’t seem to be to much on the net on how to build SKS receivers.

Yep, I’m a DIY junkie ;)

I'm just so disgusted with the current political situation now. Just when I was thinking of getting strapped in for the ride, now I hear some of our own elected republicans are joining the democrats and doing it to us even more. Talk about being kicked when your down. I thought this gun ban garbage was over with when DUBBYA let X-42's law sunset.

I have been trying to decide,
1911 45ACP or FHN five seven. Five seven has 20 rnd high velocity but unique ammo that will likely be banned. 45 has brute force and ammo is everywhere.
The five seven would be an interesting collector piece to me. What would Jack O'neil do.

Buy both.

I’m not a .45 fan but the 5.7 is odd enough for me to want it :)

You mean FNH.

The FN FiveseveN (their spelling, not mine) is known to have issues with firing out of battery. And the 5.7mm ammo turns out to be nothing spectacular in civvie-legal loadings.

Look into a Springfield XD45.

Look at Saiga rifles and semi shotguns.

The AR is modular and 7.62x39 is the cheapest ammo that Cabela's carries.

Nice thing about the AR is you can plug 5.56mm or 6.8mm in.

I agree that getting the buffer tube area right could be tricky.

I'm currently in the process of setting up a CNC mill similar to this one.

(Just barely big enough to cut the buffer tube area...)

As long as you get your workpiece zeroed out properly and you tell the computer to mill the hole and threads in the right place, it should come out right.

The reason you don’t find much on DIY SKS receivers is that it uses a milled receiver. Plus I do not know of any imported parts kits for them.

I’m not a fanatic gun guy but I have what I have from a buying spree from before the last ban. Chinese stuff and Colt AR. I find the cheap 7.62 stuff to be more accurate and the 223 stuff to be a lot more expensive. P226 9mm works like a charm. I was just thinking it would be interesting to have the FiveseveN but is it practical? Very few sell it in gun stores but it is on the internet. It is not widely accepted by law enforcement or military as far as I can tell. I’ll talk to my friends that know about this stuff. I’m more of a Camera guy but when I start hearing ban language I get cautious of my future.

Most 7.62x39 is imported and will be among the first cut off by the Obamination.

There is little US 7.62x39 production (though it is growing) - there is a LOT of 5.56 NATO in the US.

Also, unless you do a dedicated AR for 7.62x39, you are likely to end up with a jam-o-matic - so you’re going to toss out the modular thing or the reliable thing, one way or the other.

"I absolutely hate the words assault weapons."

"I was at the Bass Pro shop a week ago and asked the guy if they carried any M1 type rifles. He said, "No, we don't carry assault rifles."

Next time you are in there, ask him if he stocks any REMINTONs.

No, the FiveseveN isn’t practical. Ammo is not cheap or commonly available, civilian loads do not perform as well as even a basic 9mm hollowpoint, and you can forget about getting parts and such easily.

Also, like I said, the FiveseveN has been known to fire out of battery, i.e., EXPLODE.

I don’t have my heart set on 7.62x39

Of course its all out of my budget right now. (unemployed)

Hopefully I’ll be able to scrape enough together to build something useful before parts are no longer available.

Well, its bed time.

Good night.

Jack Bower on Leno.

Great!

Thanks for the info on that. I'll at least invest in more rounds. I hear they could be worth more than gold someday.

Perhaps a nice 45 would do the trick. I had also thought of a 357 except I don't care for revolvers.

58 replies and nobody bothered checking the date or status?...

This is OLD news, and already posted today as new.

This bill was introduced in JUNE. Two of the co-sponsors aren’t even in office as of the election as one didn’t run for re-election and the other lost.

Since this has popped up several conservative places besides just here today I think there is some Obama backer pushing it as “new” to try to say “look it’s the GOP trying to ban your guns, not the dems”.

Well, I fired off a comment to Rep. Kirk anyway just to stick him to a stake.
I can’t tolerate these ignorant political prostitutes.
If they can’t produce a product that someone whats to buy, they could at least take the time to research a topic and take a position consistent with rational thought.
Pi$$ on ‘em if they can’t.
And I’m glad the others lost - screw ‘em
Sorry,
I get worked up by institutionalized stupidity.
