Crist calls Florida a model for future of GOP
St. Petersburg Times ^ | November 12, 2008 | Steve Bousquet

Posted on 11/17/2008 10:52:39 PM PST by flattorney

ABSTRACT: The host of the Republican Governors' Association event is Florida's Charlie Crist, a big believer in the "big tent" theory who calls his way of governing "a model for the country." Crist's priorities include addressing climate change and restoring civil rights of felons, and some Floridians are still waiting for their property tax bills to "drop like a rock," as he promised last year. He has appointed Democrats to high-level state posts, and he took the advice of a Democratic legislator in extending the hours of early voting before last week's election, a step some viewed as favorable to Obama. Crist says the key to success is for Republicans to be like him: work with Democrats, seek "common sense" solutions and avoid wedge issues that divide Floridians. "I'm very proud of how our administration has been able to bring people together in a bipartisan fashion — almost a nonpartisan fashion," he said. Crist became Governor receiving 52 percent of the vote in 2006, in part due to the votes of Hispanics and a larger-than-expected share of African-American support. Exit polls show both groups voted decisively for Obama in Florida. Asked how the Republicans can win some of them back, Crist said: "You continue to push forward on issues like restoring felons' rights. That you demonstrate in a way that's manifested that all people of the state are important. … Everyone's included, and everyone's invited to the table."

Crist calls Florida a model for future of GOP

Crist is a RINO.

If Florida is a glimpse into the Republican Party's future, then the whole nation will turn blue by 2012.

The fact that Crist could not hold the state for someone as liberal as McCain, shows he probably is going the route of Schwartzenegger, moving ever leftwards in an effort to save himself.

ALASKA! (its Governor’s policies!) is the hottest new destination for a clueless RNC.

The GOP grassroots has already ‘bookmarked’ the site as a favorite.

What’s the balance of power in the Florida legislature? What is the balance of power of the Florida congressional representation? If the GOP has the lead, and has expanded it, then maybe, just maybe, Crist is perhaps right.

But he has already shown to be unable to deliver the presidential vote, and this stupidity about extending voting rights to convicted felons shows how weak his position truly is.

who calls his way of governing "a model for the country."

If he thinks his namby-pamby centrism is the way for Republicans to win, I predict he will have a conversion to the Democrats sometime before the next election.

Charlie Crist is shallow and lacking any principles. He lives only to get elected. He sounds bored and detached whenever I hear him. His voice is sickening ....We hear this dope all the time here in Florida

He’s like Obama. Empty suit

I know, but refuse to consider her marrried to that stinkin rotten, horrific murderer so I address her by her Maiden name. Secondly, I know Jeb was Governor at the time and did all he could possibly do to Save Terri from that horrific murder by dehydration. The gay Crist was A.G. at the time and did NOTHING to Save Terri and everything to expedite her murder by a disgusting and corrupt Florida Justice System!!!!
Any further comments for clarification??

If they are going to be doing this all rule (I mean govern) from the center thing and really try to eliminate the two party system—here come more third party candidates saying no difference between the two parties so vote for them for real change which won’t be a lie), it won’t be long before we go back to electing the VP and the President seperate potentially from different parties (what difference will it make if we do if they are all the same and all of the states will do likewise with their governors and lt governors.

How long have you said you lived in this state?

I would say trying to pattern Florida after Ahnold’s Caleeforniah is a big mistake. Trying to bring California car clean air standards here and also trying to turn our state into global warming central not too good either. Don’t mention all the RINO statements he has made lately, and I don’t particularly like is sycophantic sniffing behind both RINOs Ahnold, and Perry in Texas.

Jeb Bush may have been an amnesty loving RINO, but he also dismantled the dems with his brilliance and left this state in a position to handle almost situation. Now that he is gone, the GOP is beginning to fall apart. Clueless Charlie just keeps the RINO hits coming.

The dems in this state think Charlie is great and why not, for all he’s doing for them, he ought to be one of them.

I could not hold my nose and vote for old gay-time Charlie back in 2006. So I’m not one of those with voter’s regret now for putting him in there.

The only reason I voted for RINO McCain this year is Sarah Palin. But I’m sure Sarah will stay as far away from fruit loop Charlie as she can get. Not even Sarah Palin would make me consider voting for him.
