Opposition to proposition 8 brings out demonstrators in Kentucky

Despite the rain, wind and cold weather, several hundred people took to the streets of downtown Louisville on Saturday to demonstrate.

They were demonstrating about something that happened on Election Day in California, the passage of proposition 8 which revoked the rights of same sex couples to marry.

Even though it’s not an issue that has come to voters in Kentucky, those demonstrating today said it is just a matter of time.

Local activist Curtis Morrison used Facebook, e-mails and word of mouth to get straight and gay Louisvillians to the demonstration.

“All we want is equality. We don’t want anything special. We just want the same rights everyone else has,” Morrison said.

However, some feel the message is all wrong.

“Anything goes is basically what it’s sending,” Connie Reesor said.

Reesor said she sides with the majority of Californians who said at the ballot box they didn’t want to see gay marriage upheld.

The majority of people voting for proposition 8 gave the same reason as Reesor for opposing it.

“I just don’t agree with it. Because the bible teaches against it, that’s why,” Reesor said.

Many of those demonstrating on Saturday said the biggest message in the bible, and the reason for marriage, is love.

But it is not just people in California or Kentucky who are demonstrating, organizers all over the country are trying to make the same point—gay couples should be allowed to marry.

“You get to a tipping point where enough is enough. And I think America as a whole is getting to that point. Today, there are over 100 protests across the nation. Probably a million people are on the street right now,” Morrison said.

Even in the buckle of the Bible belt, which is where protestors said hearts and minds will have to change.

“Within the next couple of years nationwide, this will not be an issue. It’s going to be behind us like slavery,” Morrison said.

The outcome of the vote on proposition 8 in California was fairly close, 52 percent for and 47 percent against the proposition.

Groups like the one demonstrating on Saturday said they are hoping for gay marriage amendments to be voted on in other states in the near future.

The more they compare their "struggle" to civil rights for blacks, the more they turn them off, from what I'm seeing.

They're shouting into the wind. Who cares?

Idiots, you do have equality. I can't marry someone from the same gender, my kids, my pets or numerous individuals either.

“...proposition 8 which revoked the rights of same sex couples to marry.”

The media can not report the truth. The passing of Prop 8 didn’t take away anybodies rights. It amended a loophole, if you will that simply states that marriage is between a man and women. They just can’t get it right.

These protests remind me of Nixon's "silent majority" line.

Let the loud and obnoxious minority continue turning people off to their cause.

Polygamy is next, of course. A nightmare that looks like a dream.

If all of this protesting happened before the election, things might have turned out differently. Don’t underestimate the power of this kind of thing to give those conservatives who stayed home the kick in the butt they needed to lodge a protest vote.

Amazing, Oblabla won by the same margin and it’s a landslide, but the gay vote was close.

As I have mentioned elsewhere:

"The question of why 1.51% of the population should dictate to the rest of us an overturn of thousands of years of tradition and custom and law and religion still flabbergasts me."
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1083139/posts?page=227#227

I tried to wake people up, over this manufactured ( yes, it's a construct ) "issue" for years & years:
-A Gay ( or not! ) Old Time- GM links--

Here's the money quote:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1083139/posts?page=266#266

"...actor John Barrowman on what it really means:

It’s been a long wait but we legitimised our relationship to each other a long time ago when we signed our mortgages together and this is just something that forces people who don’t want to recognise it that they have to."

That's right- it's not about "tolerance," or "choice," or any of the other touchy-feely Oh! So! PC things-- it's about force...

The new battle line?

choice versus control.

Kentucky is a GOP stronghold. So the snivelling rat in
the MSM finds 50 protestors somewhere in KY and proclaims
this as a big story.

Pure propaganda. Don’t believe anything by the MSM.

This is all just so much redux.

This is how the CA g/l movement seized California. Using any excuse. Now, in the areas where the g/l are "so-called" protesting? Watch.

Gay Pride events are going to turn up. With Gay Lawyers. All the stupid stuff which infected CA has plans to infect every location where these folks are protesting.

It's how they did it in CA. It's not about CA's Prop 8.

The G/L are using CA's Prop 8 to grow their movement and activities within locations all around the nation.

Like, duh.. to those of us who saw what they did and how they did it in the San Francisco Bay Area.

It's an exuse the g/l are CAPITALIZING on.

These people will get their people to start showing up at school board meetings, specifically as concerns "hiring" gays, gay curriculum, etc.

They'll start showing up at town councils deciding which "businesses" to "lure" to that area.

Those who don't learn from the San Francisco model are doomed to repeat it.
