The Left doesn't get it about social conservatism and never will. There are millions of people around the country who believe in God and in traditional values and family. Those are beliefs that will never go out of style and there will always be a vehicle to represent them in our public life whether or not it happens to be the Republican Party or some new movement.

The problem is that there are two strains of social conservatism — one that simply wants government to leave them alone and one that wants to use government to impose its preferences on the rest of society. The latter is more prominent for obvious reasons (the biggest mouths and pushiest elbows get the attention), and scares the bulk of the electorate away.
