Posted on 11/19/2008 5:43:03 PM PST by rabscuttle385
A group of senior and up-and-coming Hispanic conservatives with close ties to leaders of the Republican Party will meet in the coming weeks to work out how to salvage the GOPs electoral chances with a voting bloc that deserted them on Nov. 4.
Like many Republican groups in the aftermath of a crushing election cycle, the Hispanic conservatives plan a political post-mortem to lay bare what the party did wrong and how to fix it.

Not just Hispanics
Jews 78-22 Obama
Catholics 54-45 Obama
Women 58-42 Obama
Well, if they are going to lie, I won't be paying much attention to them, either.
The hispanics are really a one issue caucus - immigration reform (which means amnesty). They want the freedom to invade legally.
They need to organize formally reach out publicly.
I agree. As for illegal immigration, Hispanics are far from the only group - there are large numbers of illegal African, Chinese and Russian/Bosnian immigrants here, most of them on welfare and many of them with health or crime problems, but the group that many in the GOP seemed to really hate was Hispanics.
It was not our finest moment, IMHO. I hope we can offer some realistic, positive solutions to the illegal immigration problem. But foaming at the mouth about Hispanics isn't one of them.
“Rodriguez pointed to defections of Hispanic Republicans to New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardsons (D) presidential campaign, like that of Lionel Sosa, a former aide to Bush who went to advise Richardson. Rodriguez noted conservative Hispanics felt the GOP betrayed them by demonizing immigrants a group that was once lauded as examples of the American Dream.”
“Now, with President-elect Barack Obama having secured about 66 percent of the Hispanic vote to Republican John McCains 33 percent and having won the electoral votes of the heavily Hispanic states of Florida, New Mexico, Colorado and Nevada Rodriguez says theres still a big segment of the party that doesnt get it.
NO! You don’t “get it”. This is a nation of laws - if you don’t like the law you either leave or try and get it changed. The majority disagrees with your attitude that an invasion of illegal aliens is nothing more than new immigrants who should be welcomed.
The only thing that holds this nation together is respect for the law. Once the law falls apart and no one is any longer following the law - this nation will literally fly apart into violent spasms.
Just you watch.
Don’t forget male union members. I can’t remember the statistic, but they went heavily for Obama, too. And, of course, white college students of both sexes. Pretty depressing.
Supposedly this is not totally true. Not all legal hispanics support amnesty and many do not.
I sscnned the article to see if Mel Martinez was mentioed. He was and he is a RINO.
They are only concerned with the immigration issue since the vast majority of illegals are hispanic. If the vast majority of illegals were from Scandinavia these hispanic politicos would demand widespread arrests and mass deportations.
“The hispanics are really a one issue caucus - immigration reform (which means amnesty). They want the freedom to invade legally.”
THis is BS
They NEVER want to talk to Hispanics like me, Director of the Illinois Minuteman Project and a Member of You don’t Speak for me.
They ignore law abiding Hispanics. The RNC only wants to speak to those who want to destroy the rule of law in America.
Then why is that virtually the only issue they talk about? Every story involving hispanics and either Bush, McCain or Obama talk about immigration reform. Are there no other issues important to the hispanic world?
You are correct. Might be interesting to see how much tension between the obama cultists and the laraza types develops.
We should not play the liberals game on this. They did it successfully with women for many years. Now we see how many strong and active conservative women there are. Hispanic "identity" politicians must not be allowed to do to Latinos what they did to Blacks. We need to go around them and appeal to the socially conservative Latino base. Yes, secure the border. However, we must encourage legal Latino immigration with vigor. Latinos, believe in God, not Allah or Darwin. They believe in hard work. And, unlike most of urban America, they have babies!
This stuff is pure bull.
McCain was the most liberal republican in the fold. He was all for amnesty. And said so during the fall campaign.
The only difference between him and obama was that obama didn’t publicly call for border enforcement.
They are both already planning amnesty legislation in congress so the dems can lock in permanent majority.
Understand that amnesty is something that more than 70% of American oppose.
So you were predicting this on FR since June of this year?
Gee... how long is the suffering of a RINO?
Nice try Newbie...
I think you brought the sand here with your RINO head wrapped in it.
Folks, by and large, have been demonizing illegally-present foreign nationals and their RINO/Rat enablers in Big Federal and State Government, not immigrants in general.
Try to realize that there is a difference before opening your trap and insulting the millions of law-abiding foreign nationals (including my parents and multiple family members!) who legally immigrated from nations all over the world to the United States in search of liberty, freedom, and a better life.
Look who crawled out of the woodwork to play!
Are you still waiting for another 1/2 post by Senator DeMint???
That’s right. You keep making your little snippy comments instead of offering real solutions. You’ll get far.
Oops. I forgot to ping you to the party!
Amnesty is not a real solution because it introduces a much bigger problem into the picture: the notion that the rule of law is bunk.
Once the electorate figures that out and takes it to heart, you can kiss the entire Government good bye.
Translation: RINOs like robert david want to continue pandering to Ted Kennedy and company.
I would really like to see a list of all those you consider RINOs and all those you consider “true Republicans”. You can limit the list to members of the House and Senate. I bet the former would be longer than the latter thus it would be the latter who are the real RINOs.
Oh. Muh. Goodness. It’s the illegal-supporting newbie trollscum, Boob.
Hey, Boob, gonna come buy my house so you can sit nekkid with my illegal neighbors, hold hands, get drunk and toss trash and Corona bottles all over the yard and sing “Guantanamera” with the bass going full tilt at 2am ? No ? Well, then you can STFU.
Are you serious? Because conservative Republicans opposed illegal immigration, that makes us haters? I'm against all illegal immigrants. Come in legally, or don't come in.
Maybe we can all show up on the same night of the week.
I have predicted this would happen all along.
You want a cookie for "predicting" that the same tired, ineffectual lie to the effect that "conservatives are anti-immigration" -- link to any elected conservative politician or any even reasonably prominent conservative pundit making any such argument, please, or else stand exposed as an exceptionally clumsy and baldfaced liar -- would be parroted once again, rather than honest acknowledgment of the principled, law-abiding conservative stance versus i-l-l-e-g-a-l immigration?
Pfffft. The biggest problem with (putative) "conservatives" such as yourself is that none of you are ever even remotely happy unless securely down on your knees, "reaching out" to some new phantom constituency the only way you know how.
Go peddle your thin, piping wails of "xenophobe" someplace else, n00b troll. Ain't nobody here buyin'.
They have but two electoral "battle stances," ultimately: either on their knees, or else face down with their hindquarters submissively proffered. ;)
They can start by telling their illegal brothers, sisters, cousins and other extended chain of illegal immigrants to go back to their homeland. Otherwise, any "advice" they have to give is highly suspect from the start.
They lost -- spectacularly -- to an empty suit; a one-term Senate Marxist with open and unapologetic terrorist ties. The only "advice" they can legitimately offer anyone is by way of being an object lesson. ;)
Nice catch antceecee,
The Republican party HAS alienated Law Abiding Hispanics and LEGAL immigrants who play by the rules. Illegal Immigration has Bankrupted the United States, Make no mistake about it.
You become like your leaders.
Mexico- One of the most corrupt governments in the world.
Illegal aliens bring their corrupt culture.
I know, I am of Mexican decent. Fortuneately, I have parents who rejected the norm. They preach personal responsibility.
PS read my tag line.
xenophobes ??? a group that was once lauded as examples of the American Dream."
You dont happen to have the espanol word for ASSIMILATION handy by chance do ya ???
Immigration is a blessing...parasitic infection is another devastating result of political whoring/pandering...
thats really not fair...some cases they actually stand and fight for what they believe in...
I believe the term is 'maverick'...
Speaking of which, our intel has finally procured a picture of "robert david":
Firstly, Rodriquez is a liar. Secondly, did you forget your sarcasm tag? NO Immigrants were demonized. What is at issue here are illegal immigrants. Mostly what I see here on FR and among other Conservatives I know is a genuine desire to see the Government hold to the rule of law.
I am never sure what part of “illegal” is being misunderstood? Are you suggesting Americans should roll over and allow our country to be transformed into a 3rd-world crap-hole overnight? Are illegal aliens in some way special? How do you suppose those who did things legally and jumped through all the hoops to becomes citizens feel?
It's even worse for the legal folks who supported the Republicans only to get stabbed in the back by McCain et al.
Only in their grotesquely overinflated sense of entitlement, and how slavishly servile "moderate" Republicans are in bowing and abasing themselves before same.
"If you give a louse a cookie, he'll want a glass of milk as well. And the opportunity to @#$% up another eight or ten national elections, while he's at it." ;)
***Thanks a lot, xenophobes.***
You and BlackElk are the only “conservatives” I’ve seen use this term xenophobe to describe people that want the border and immigration laws enforced. You realize there is a difference between legal and illegal right?
One half of my family is Hispanic. They are alienated by the likes of You that think the way to their hearts (and vote) is through lawlessness! They share many of the same issues as other Americans do and spit at the politicians that think giving amnesty to lawbreakers is the only issue that concerns them.
The term “RINO” was even coined by a conservative Hispanic Republican, Celeste Greig.
Celeste is also an outspoken supporter of secure borders and Proposition 187.
