When comedian Wanda Sykes disclosed during a rally in Las Vegas this week that she had been in a same-sex marriage since October, no one cheered louder than those who face the double indemnity of being black and gay.
"You know, I don't really talk about my sexual orientation," said Sykes, 44, who stars in the television series "Adventures of Old Christine." "I didn't feel like I had to. I was just living my life, not necessarily in the closet, but I was living my life."
But living life in the spotlight -- as black and gay -- is twice as hard, according to other blacks who say they are stigmatized by society at large for their sexual orientation and again by their own homophobic culture.
Sykes, who was unavailable for comment, is one of only a handful of black, gay celebrities to protest California's Proposition 8, the gay marriage ban that was passed with the help of a coalition of religious groups, many of them black.
For blacks, the victory of President-elect Obama signaled the promise of a new era of racial equality, but gays like Sykes see Proposition 8 as an assault on their civil rights. And the aftermath of the vote has opened old wounds between gays and blacks.

"For people of color, they are not as accepting as they are for Ellen [DeGeneres], Rosie [O'Donnell], Lance Bass [former of In Sync], George Michael and Elton John. I haven't seen anyone [who is black and openly gay] on the national celebrity A list."
"We also get it at home from our parents and grandparents and don't want to bring shame to the family name," Dean told ABCNews.com. "We know who we are, but we don't out them."

Talented comedienne. News not surprising, except that she has shown some common sense in some of her work.
I guess personal issues trump principles.
In their culture it is worse to be "caught acting white" (whatever that means, success and education know no color, and neither does music) than it is to be homosexual.
There are plenty of black trannies.
At least with homosexuality, there is a moral issue going back thousands of years including religious writings against it.
If homosexuality isn't wrong, neither is extramarital sex (pre-marital, extramarital, etc.). We are not animals, we can choose to do right or wrong. Anyone who has looked at a pretty girl but couldn't act on that impulse because she was married, with someone (especially one of your friends), or too young, or a relation, then you made a moral decision.
Does anyone who is attracted to a person of different nationality or skin color still make a decision about not entering the relationship based on "morals"?
Well, I mean besides Barack. He wrote in his book about calling one of his friends a race traitor for dating a white woman, just like his mother and father's relationship.
Among her lines was that black people would have to find a new “excuse” if Barack was elected because you can’t complain about The Man keeping you down when suddenly you ARE the Man.
“We also get it at home from our parents and grandparents and don’t want to bring shame to the family name,” Dean told ABCNews.com. “We know who we are, but we don’t out them.”
I’m okay with that. Atleast this one has some SHAME.
Keep it in the closet.
In New York, you actually have a subculture of “homothugs”, young black gay men who act really rough for both protection and to show “authenticity” within their community.
This just in. “Clay Aiken is also gay.”
Warning...some will find offensive, esp at end.
NO way!
I’m still trying to figure out if Michael Jackson is black or white, straight or gay, criminal or misunderstood philanthrope, muslim or...
I really feel sorry for these people as they (and ALL, but especially those whom are hurting) need Christ.
...a carbon- or silicon-based life form.
I suspect that you are going to be hearing the Zawahiri refrain from many in the race-hustling business as this administration unfolds (or unravels).
“When the fairies are displeased with anybody, they are said to send their elves to pinch them. The ecclesiastics, when they are displeased with any civil state, make also their elves, that is, superstitious, enchanted subjects, to pinch their princes, by preaching sedition; or one prince, enchanted with promises, to pinch another.”(Thomas Hobbes - Leviathan, 1651)
The premis is 100% BS.
The effort is to imply that black rights and homsexuals were somehow “close”.
Not so, there is no divide. There was NEVER ANY CLOSENESS.
This is just propaganda speak. (ie how often do you beat your wife) Imply there WAS closeness where there never was closeness.
If we’re smart, maybe we can let them tear each other to pieces while getting control of the country.
