Waxman unseats Dingell as House energy committee chairTo the delight of many environmental groups across the country, California Democrat Henry Waxman has ousted fellow Democrat John Dingell of Michigan from his post as chairman of the House Committee on Energy
and Commerce. The 255-member House Democratic conference voted 137 to 122 Thursday to replace Rep. Dingell, a close ally of the auto industry, with Waxman, a longtime champion of environmental causes. The vote places Waxman in charge of a panel with one of the broadest jurisdictions of any congressional committee, responsible for legislative oversight relating to consumer protection, food and drug safety, air quality, energy supply and transmission, telecommunications, and a host of other matters relating to interstate and foreign commerce.
Environmentalists are praising the outcome,
which was unusual in that it defied Congresss seniority system. Dingell, the Houses longest-serving member, assumed office in 1955 and has chaired the energy committee for 28 years. Waxmans victory is a breath of fresh air of clean air, wrote Frank ODonnell, president of Clean Air Watch, an environmental advocacy group. It was a stunning defeat for the corporate lobbyists on K Street. This is huge for those wholl want strong action on both climate change and clean energy and energy independence (and health care) wrote Joseph Romm, a former Clinton energy adviser and a blogger for the Center for American Progress, a think tank headed by John Podesta, Bill Clintons former chief-of-staff. Heck, its the second best piece of news on global warming this month! The National Resources Defense Council, a New York-based environmental group, chose their words carefully, praising both Waxmans and Dingells environmental contributions: Chairman Waxman has been a leader on global warming for many years,

Nostrilitis Waxman is perhaps the most loathsome individual in congress. Dingell was a f**king clown too, but at least he understood that the general public didn’t want crippling energy taxes. Here comes enviro-socialism folks.
The silver lining here is that Nostrilitis is sure to overreach very soon, and that should provide Republicans and conservatives with opportunities.
Waxman in charge telecommunications
The moderate Dingell has been replaced by the ultra leftwing liberal Waxman. Change you can depend on.
Waxman in charge health care
Just a note, the Republicans had better be Conservatives or this won’t mean a hill of beans. Death to Rino’s, America has had enough.
“which was unusual in that it defied Congresss seniority system.”
Welcome to Chicago....................style.
I'm glad you noticed the difference.
At least they’re coming put into the open and we know that the true faces are showing.
Waxman will want to make the auto industry into a government-run entity, forcing them to make overly priced cars that people won’t want to buy. The triumph of central planning.
If there was EVER a human being who looked like a RAT, and acted like it, it would be Waxman.
Anyone remember “Ratfink” from your youth? That’s Waxman, but not so lovable.
Frikking pointy nosed guy should definitely have whiskers...
I nearly fell out of my chair when I heard that one of the options was for the government to purchase part ownership in the companies!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I could not believe it. I just cannot believe it. Is this acceptable to most Americans? We are so screwed.
Let the ecoNazis of the left overreach. Keep putting in these divisive morons and let’s get the populace fired up bigtime.
At least we can try to enjoy the dummycrats gloat their way into extinction.
Great, put the Enviro-Nazi in charge, just when you need to lift CAFE standards to save the economy.
I agree. The proven dim-wits who supported the messiah and his fellow radicals on November 4th will scream like stuck hogs when gasoline goes to $8. a gallon and it's rationed.
Just as only 2% of them knew (per Zogby's poll) that the 'RATS - not "BushHitler" like they thought - have controlled congress for the past two years, they'll believe the 'RATS again when they tell them it's Bush's fault.
We'll be ready for them.
The rats have been controlling congress since 1998! Thanks to the spineless republicans!
Waxman is living proof that politics is Hollywood for ugly people.
Dingell is possibly one of the only progun Senators left in that party. He had an A+ rating from NRA and sat on the Board for NRA. I can only hope this PI$$E$ him off so much he jumps parties.
