Catholic Campaign for Human Development Has Given ACORN $7 Million
Human Events ^ | 11-11-08 | Phyllis Schafly

Do you wonder why 2008 election data shows that the majority of Catholics voted for Barack Obama even though his record as Illinois state senator proves him the most pro-abortion candidate who ever ran for president?

Perhaps one answer is that on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, millions of Catholics will again be putting in their church's collection plate their annual donation to what the pre-printed envelope calls "Campaign for Human Development: The Catholic Church working to end poverty and injustice in America; We'll turn your dollars into hope for the poor of our nation."

The generous Catholics who respond to that well-phrased appeal probably think they are making a Good Samaritan gift to provide necessaries to the down-and-out. Most would probably be shocked to learn that the money donated to the Campaign for Human Development (CHD) does not go for charity but for radical Obama-style community organizing.

Over the last 10 years, CHD has given $7.3 million of Catholic-donated dollars to the Saul Alinsky-style group called ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now).

When in 1998 some Catholics complained that CHD grants were not used for Catholic charity but were actually funding groups opposed to church teachings, CHD changed its name to Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD).

Saul Alinsky's son Lee David Alinsky felt compelled to remedy Obama's failure to give proper credit. In a letter to the Boston Globe in August after Obama's open-stadium rally in Denver, the younger Alinsky wrote:

"Obama learned his lesson well. I am proud to see that my father's model for organizing is being applied successfully beyond local community organizing to affect the Democratic campaign in 2008. It is a fine tribute to Saul Alinsky as we approach his 100th birthday."

Saul Alinsky explained his community organizing tactics in his book "Rules for Radicals." His game plan was to divide the community into the Haves and the Have Nots, make the Have Nots believe they are unjustly treated by the Haves, build resentment against the American social and economic system, use church congregations to mobilize street agitators, and lobby government for higher taxes and big-spending welfare programs in order to confiscate the wealth and power of the Haves and turn it over to the Have Nots.

Alinsky dedicated his book to Lucifer, "the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom."

It is way past time that these people were forced to pay property taxes.

I have never given a dime to the Campaign for Human Development, after I read a list of their charities the first year they went into business. And I also never give a dime to Catholic Charities, since some of their money goes to good causes and some is diverted to very questionable ones.

Support your parish—the building needs to be heated and maintained. Support your bishop, even though some of the funds may go astray—but we still need to keep the diocese going. But when it comes to charities, donate to the outfits that are really working for good, not the Communist ones.

Giving to Catholic Charities is like giving to the RNC. Some of the money may do some good, but others will go to help RINOs defeat conservatives. Target your donations to REAL Catholic charities and causes, like Priests for Life or the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist (look them up).

Until I get conclusive information from either my church or the archdiocese, I won’t contribute. It’s strangely difficult for me to get that info in 4 tries, especially in light of this:

Catholic bishops cut all funding to ACORN

Young Alinsky lives in Medfield,MA...a *very* swanky suburb of Boston. One of the richest in state,in fact.Lots of horses in that town...if ya catch my drift. His house is assessed by the town at about $500K which means that it could bring $750K at least.Above is a picture of the house from the Town of Medifield's official website.

I guess that being the son of a Maoist agitator is a pretty profitable deal these days.

Medfield is a very nice town. Property taxes must be pretty high.

All these religious groups, Catholic and mainstream Protestant, contriibute to all kinds of organizations which are workinig to undermine western civilization.

Lots of the money goes to political activists like ACORN, and others to anti-war, pacifist, and anti-gun groups.

Unless the Christian rank and file wake up, take a stand, stop being sheep, and demnad that their clergy and churches stop this slipping an sliding towards third worldism, our desecedants will be growing up as Muslims.

Agreed. Catholic, Protestant or Evanagelical money going to groups like ACORN, La Raza, LULAC and others are used to help Islam. This ACORN money will be used to harm Christians and kill babies thorugh unrestricted abortions.

Raymond Arroyo on World Over Last Friday on EWTN that the Bishop in charge of the CAMPAING FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT said that no monies were given to ACORN.

When Arroyo questioned the Bishop, the bishop agreed that while the monies in fact are fungible and could be used for the ACORN project.

The best thing that anybody can do is to not donate to the CAMPAIN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT this Sunday, November 23, 2008.

Since money is fungible, there is a good possibility that the Diocese will assess the parish for the monies that are not collected from their regular collections. There is a precedent for this action in the diocese of Atlanta. When Archbishop Wilton Gregory does not collect enough money for his ANNUAL BISHOPS APPEAL. The Parish is assesed for the monies that are not donated to the Diocese from their regular collections which represents 70% of the weekly collections. Archbishop Wilton Gregory gets 30% of our weekly support to the Parish.

Remember these Bishops and Cardinals with the exception of a few Bishops like Martino nare politicians and they want to advance their careets and be included in the social Cirles like Obama, Ted Kennedy, Bob Casey Jr, and the other Pro Abortion Politicians.

People should never give to feeder charities, the ones that do nothing but redistribute the money to other charities (United Way being the mother load of all beasts). Everyone’s parish should have a food pantry and each Diocese should have a local chapter of St. Vincent de Paul Society for clothing. The only thing Catholic Charities is good for is rental and utility assistance.

Only temporarily, though.

Agreed. I also stopped giving to United Way many years ago, to the annoyance of my employer. They take their cut before they pass the money on to real charities, and some of the charities they support are very dubious.
