Catholic Campaign for Human Development Has Given ACORN $7 Million

Do you wonder why 2008 election data shows that the majority of Catholics voted for Barack Obama even though his record as Illinois state senator proves him the most pro-abortion candidate who ever ran for president?

Perhaps one answer is that on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, millions of Catholics will again be putting in their church's collection plate their annual donation to what the pre-printed envelope calls "Campaign for Human Development: The Catholic Church working to end poverty and injustice in America; We'll turn your dollars into hope for the poor of our nation."

The generous Catholics who respond to that well-phrased appeal probably think they are making a Good Samaritan gift to provide necessaries to the down-and-out. Most would probably be shocked to learn that the money donated to the Campaign for Human Development (CHD) does not go for charity but for radical Obama-style community organizing.

Over the last 10 years, CHD has given $7.3 million of Catholic-donated dollars to the Saul Alinsky-style group called ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now).

When in 1998 some Catholics complained that CHD grants were not used for Catholic charity but were actually funding groups opposed to church teachings, CHD changed its name to Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD).

But Saul Alinsky forgot that in the end, THE REAL MESSIAH DEFEATS the enemy.

I wish it were lies.

For over 30 the Catholic Church has stood by and said NOTHING when Catholic pro-abortion pols have chanted their chant of death to the unborn. And the Catholic Church did nothing, it has only been recently that they arestarting to take a stand.

We’ll know the church means business when someone like Teddy Kenndy is thrown OUT.

Until then they are supporting abortion, which about 50 percent of Cathloics do, BTW.

and concerning ACORN, well ACORN supports abortion and the church gave them money for years.

The church has been giving the devil his dues to go forth and murder the unborn.

The Catholic Church is not pro-abortion. Any claim to the contrary is a lie.

It is a falsehood to say either that 52% of American Catholic voters voted for partial birth abortion, or that the Catholic Church is paying for them.

I assume you are extrapolating from the vote for Obama, in which self-identified Catholics of all races voted in aggregate exactly like the overall U.S. vote of all races (54% Obama, 46% McCain), and white Catholics who go to Mass weekly voted exactly like white Evangelicals: 26% Obama, 74% McCain, according to a Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life analysis.

Likewise the Catholic Church is not "paying for partial birth abortions." The CCHD -- scandalously --- paid $7+ million over the last 10 years to ACORN, but ACORN doesn't do partial-birth abortions, or abortions of any kind. They do Alinsky-style organizing, which is aggravating enough, and they did what they could to gin up voters -- drunk and sober, living and dead --- for Obama, but Planned Parenthood they are not.

So your hyperbole is overheated, ill-targeted, and offensive. Why do you say such things?

Anyone noticing you really can’t tell the difference between politics and religion anymore? They just say what they want and do what they want. They both will use fear to push you in the direction they want for purely selfish and self serving motives. Amazing how similiar bedfellows will become!!

Other than excommunicating, denying communion and publicly denouncing stupid statements by Pelosi and the likes, what do you want the Church to do?

A Catholic pol who is pro-abort excommunicates himself automatically (Canon law 751, 1364).

I read somewhere recently that Catholic Charities isn’t giving any more money to Acorn. A bit late, but welcome all the same.

Shameful statement.

The Catholic Church is completely pro-life .. ALL life.

The fleeting ideology and practices of man, unacceptably, may not be.

~~~
“Abortion
2270 Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person - among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.72
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.73
My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately wrought in the depths of the earth.74
~~~

2271 Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law:

You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish.75

God, the Lord of life, has entrusted to men the noble mission of safeguarding life, and men must carry it out in a manner worthy of themselves. Life must be protected with the utmost care from the moment of conception: abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes.”

“It is way past time that these people were forced to pay property taxes.”

I hope so, then the priests would have the free speech to tell the congregation not to vote for antilife candidates (which they already do), but be able to name NAMES (like Obama, et al).

“Catholic church, pro-abortion and pro-ACORN.”

No, they were just too trusting, and did not investigate ACORN well enough.

I heard that they will not be contributing to ACORN this year. Does anyone know if that’s true?

Neither my church nor the archdiocese will confirm this.
I’m not contributing unless I get verification.

If they finally do confirm this, please let us know.

It’s so important to get to the bottom of this.

CCHD--Catholic money-laundering operation.

I have an idea: The Penny Protest.

Put one penny in an envelope, with a note, stating that as long as Catholic bishops and priests continue to refuse to speak out and do nothing to excommunicate pro-abortion politicians, they will not get more than that one penny a week.

Four pennies a month should get their attention. Spread the idea around to your Catholic friends!

Support your parish—the building needs to be heated and maintained.

And the organ needs to be tuned. PLEASE, don't forget such things. It's an issue in my parish. We don't have the cash to tune and repair a $2 million instrument for less than $5k. There's also the wine, the wafers, sending the vestments to the dry cleaner, etc. Put a request on the memo line on your check if you have to.

Our priest announced after Mass last week that a building inspector had been around and told him that he needed to replace or upgrade the elevator between the main floor and the basement, which is used for coffee, meetings, choir practice, library, and the like. Estimated cost: $50,000. And we’re having problems paying the heating bills or maintaining the cemetery.

He said the church would be “shut down” in a year if it isn’t done. Interesting. How would that play out with the Constitution?

When will people come to their senses and realize that this sort of unfunded government mandate is destroying our country and is no longer affordable?
