'Hate' accusations keep flying in same-sex marriage debate; protest planned today at Capitol

With another Proposition 8 protest expected to bring thousands to the Capitol in Sacramento today, both sides continue to accuse each other of a four-letter word in the same-sex marriage debate, and it isn't "love."

It's about the polar opposite — hate.

A pro-Proposition 8 group, the National Organization for Marriage, has a new Web site, AboveTheHate.com, that allows people to sign an electronic letter to "say 'Enough!' to the campaign of hate and intimidation" against supporters of the marriage ban.

In the 18 days since California voters banned same-sex marriage by 52-48 percent, the heat on both sides of the issue, and the name-calling, has yet to dissipate.

One Silicon Valley government employee, a contributor to the Yes on 8 campaign, was listed on www.antigayblacklist.com. She said someone contacted her employer and tried to have her fired because of her support for the same-sex marriage ban.

"One of our children is gay," said the woman, who asked her name not be used for fear of further retribution. "This is a very painful issue for us, but we still have to follow our conscience. What I find shocking is we are not allowed to exercise our rights, but other people are."

Even TV shrink Dr. Phil McGraw got into the act Friday. In a show on Proposition 8 that featured San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and Maggie Gallagher of the Organization for Marriage, the show asked viewers to send in an e-mail if they had been "attacked for supporting Proposition 8."

Call it a backlash to the backlash over Proposition 8. . .

Want to see hate? Just watch the reaction to the counter-demonstrators. They will have to bring spit-proof glasses and clothing.

Voters didn’t “ban” anything. They protected a venerated institution by refining it’s definition.

People are getting fed up with the thuggishness and intolerance exhibited on the anti-8 side since the election. Its reinforcing the notion voting for Prop. 8 was the right thing to do. There is a backlash brewing and gays are just killing the same sex marriage crusade. For at least a generation.

There was a time when people who practiced this horrible and detestable sexual deviancy knew in their heart of hearts that what they were doing was wrong.

Then, all they asked was to be "Left alone."

Then , they wanted to be "Out of the Closet!"

Now, they want this for their disgusting behavior:

This is proof positive that if you do not confront Evil, it is only emboldened, and gets stronger.

That is a fascinating point, and a good one. Kudos to you. We have a thinker on the board.

You know, this drives me crazy. It is not about hate on the Christian side. It is about love. The love of God and His word. Marriage is between a man and a woman. If I were to ever attend a Church that married man and man, I would leave it fast. For the leaders of this Church do not know the word of God.

Christian are just protecting what they love. Homosexuals are pissing on the alter of Christians. The homosexuals are the haters. I am sure most Christians would leave the judging to Christ. Some Christians would even say, ‘if a homosexual wants to be miserable like the rest of the married people, then let them do it in a courtroom, but never in a Church.

Christians should bring this to the leaders of our Churches door step and leave it there. And homosexuals need to understand that if they don’t come around here mocking our God, we won’t pee on their gay parade.

I think now would be an excellent time for people to go back and read the history of Germany in the 30s. They had a “messiah” then too who was going to “save the world.” He even promised them to provide them with a “folks car.” The similarities are frightening. IMHO.

I believe, like you do, that history is full of these tyrants. Obama is this generation's nightmare. The problem, as you pointed out, is that the great majority are deceived - and have no idea what they have done.

I lived in Germany for 4 years. It was a fascinating experience, and I learned a great deal from it. Germany is (and was) an advanced culture - in terms of art, literature, aviation, chemistry, medicine, physics, economics, and theology.

Isn't it ironic that one of history's greatest evils was accomplished in that country?

I spoke to some of my neighbors in my village in Germany, which was about 42 kilometers from the French border. One of my neighbors was in his 90's, but his mind was completely sharp and lucid. The descriptions he told me about Germany in the 1920's, 30's, and early 40's read like a horror novel.

Satan is doing his work - but he has one problem. God is stronger.

We must be vigilant to the truth of what is going on around us now.

Thanks again for your great post.

Try this out. Every time you read an article about homosexual protesters acting out, staging marches, rioting, and threatening churches and individuals, go back and re-read the article.

In place of homosexuals or gays, substitute the phrase "Gun Owners", and then try to imagine the official response to their acts. Shocking, isn't it?

asking gay and straight people to "call in gay" to work on Dec. 10

I will be taking careful notice on who does not show up for work on 12/10 - not because they are gay but because of their work ethic.

well... the way i remember it was, marriage is a Church rite and not a secular one, and with all the howling about separation of Church and State, i'd think they'd kinda stick to having a domestic partnership

not unlike thousands of heterosexual couples do in this country for many of the same legal benefits without some of the pesky others.
