Coleman vs. Franken isn't Florida 2000
Let Freedom Ring Blog ^ | November 24, 2008 | Editorial

Some national media types are trying to make it sound like the Coleman-Franken recount sound like Florida 2000. It’s time to deflate that myth. The minute that public hears that someone has to determine voter intent, they first flash back to Florida’s butterfly ballots, then think of the punch cards ballots.

While it’s natural to do that, that isn’t the case. In Florida 2000, people were debating voter intent based on the chad family (dimpled, pregnant or hanging.) Minnesota’s ballots are extremely straightforward. When determining voter intent, here’s some things to look for:

1) Did the voter fill in the oval?
2) Did the voter put a check mark inside the oval?
3) Did the voter put an X inside the oval?
4) Did the voter underline the candidate’s name?
5) Did the voter circle the candidate’s name?
6) Did the voter fill in more than one oval? If they did, then voter intent can’t be determined.

Minnesota election law stipulates that voter intent can only be determined by what’s marked on the ballot’s face. If people haven’t underlined or circled the candidate’s name, then they have to have either filled in the oval, put a check mark in the oval or put an X inside the oval. Those are extremely objective benchmarks. They aren’t subjective by any stretch of the imagination.

The election officials that I’ve worked with have been courteous and professional. The methods they use are consistent, logical and straightforward. Now that I’ve worked within the system, it’s my opinion that the administrative side is flawless.

Ah...but here's the dilemma.Put this case before a *Carter* appointed judge and it becomes a whole 'nother matter.

There is so much at stake here. Coleman has a lifetime American Conservative Union rating of 73. Little Al would be a zero. We need every vote for slowing and obstructing the radical agenda of the new Obamanation.

Did the party ask you to come up and help? Are there many out of state folks helping?

Franken is stealing the election.

My guess is the rats will steal the one in Georgia.

America has been New Jerseytized. The ONLY way to beat the Democrats again - EVER - is by double digit numbers. If the votes are too close, they will use tactics honed to precision in New York City, Chicago and Hudson Couonty New Jersey to steal the election - just as we are viewing in Minnesota.

As I was one of the recounters in the 2004 WA gubernatorial election, these rules are correct. It really was pretty straightforward to figure out intent, nobody got cross-eyed peering at holes in punchcards.

The fix came in with ballots that were "found" after the first count was done on Election Day. Hopefully, Coleman's got some folks familiar with those shenanigans, and is keeping an eye on recount ballot counts, versus original ballot counts.

“just as we are viewing in Minnesota”

Well, I was thinking the same thing, until I saw the spread widen to 180 on Saturday night. Hennepin County (the most liberal one out there) hasn’t been the boon for Franken at least yet.

If they’re going to steal it, they’d better get busy, because more than 2/3 of the votes have been recounted, and Coleman has only seen a net drop of 35 votes. Both candidates are roughly even in challenges, so that will likely be a wash. Any wide swings now after this far along are going to be tough to cover up now. Do I think they’re still going to try to steal it? You bet, but their window of opportunity is shrinking fast, much to my surprise.

I’m no big fan of Coleman, but we need him in the Senate.

Correction, the only way we will overcome the rule of the new Communists Party (formally RATS) is a uprising. The Communists will never allow another election but will just extend the ruling party indefinitely. The Constitution is done. The new rule will be Global, with it’s head at the UN. The US will be one of the Third World and forget capitalism. Horrible thought. Well, if we don’t get busy, that will be it.

The ONLY way to beat the Democrats again - EVER - is by double digit numbers by out-cheating them. There, fixed it. We cannot win by "enough" numbers against people who cheat with impunity. Our side and theirs are playing by different rules of engagement.

Dang it has to be depressing to be such a negative person.

Facts don't back you up, but go ahead and live in your depressing little world but it is so far from realistic as to be laughable.

“Dang it has to be depressing to be such a negative person.”

I must admit I was feeling pretty negative about the developments early on in the recount, but since it’s been made more understandable, I’m not so dour in my prediction. Coleman may pull this out after all. But I am still stunned that so many people in MN would vote for some scumball like Fecalfranken.

My problem is with the "mail in" vote and it is now "huge". If you're a registered Republican and sent in your vote, how do you know it was counted??

Change the day at the polls to a Saturday. And "Absentee" means you're out of Town....not sitting in a bar two blocks away from the polling place because "you don't wanna stand in line".....or whatever excuse you have.

Everything attached to voting is getting chaotic...ballots in different languages, illegals voting, criminals voting, all different times...

In a Federal Election, all rules should be absolutely consistent....and ALL ballots should be in English.

This has nothing to do with federal courts. Minnesota courts have jurisdiction.

Or for Jesse Ventura. It makes me think that maybe Jery Springer COULD have won here in Ohio.

So you’re *absolutely* certain that Frankenstein won’t be able to get some Carter or Clinton-appointed Federal judge to take the case on “civil rights” or “equal protection” grounds.

Take a deep breath. Your opinion is understandable but it isn’t fact-based. In fact, the lesson learned from this is that well-written election laws, coupled with flawlessly designed ballots make election theft improbable.

I also disagree with your statement ath the only way to win is by double-digits. We need to modernize the party. Voting right isn’t enough anymore. We need people that know policy cold. We need people that consistently articulate the conservative message in appealing way. We need to use 21st Century technology for fundraising, event planning & to bypass the Agenda Media’s filter.

If we don’t do those things, then we’ll forever be the minority party.
