Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has suffered a setback in regional elections, losing several key votes.
While Mr Chavez's broad coalition managed to hold on to most of the regional governors' positions, he did lose the most critical votes including the mayor of Caracas and the governorships of the country's two most populous states.
The mayor's job is often referred to as the second most important position in Venezuela.
While Mr Chavez's popularity remains high, he has never recovered from the surprising loss last year of his sweeping constitutional reforms.
He maintains he still wants to amend the country's constitution in order to run for re-election in 2012, but that now seems unlikely to pass.
The two states that voted against his coalition have almost half the population of Venezuela.
To quote Brook Benton and Randy Travis:
“It’s just a matter of time”
Chavez’s main hold on power has been oil wealth, and showering his supporters with it. That is vanishing before his eyes. He may well be “dispatched” in short order.
Nothing that a bunch of thugs with AK-47s can’t fix.
There are many benefits to a crashing economy, this being one of them.
These idiots spent like $147/barrel oil was going to last forever.
Hey Hugo, what are you going to do if oil hits $15?
I am going to thoroughly enjoy watching that meltdown.

“Lost the election? We know what comes next... “

And BTW,Dasher,on my recent trip to Southeast Asia I met a couple of great Aussie guys from Sydney on a tour.It was fun swapping stories and talking politics.I was surprised by how much they knew about US politics. It was fair dinkum all the way!
Hope this nasty POS gets the “Mussolini treatment” soon and I don’t mean a new mistress...... :^)
You are not suggesting a sip may have been shared from time to time???
No,not really. It was a tour of the Mekong Delta in Vietnam during the daytime. They had a beer but I didn't,i was so afraid of getting food poisoning, etc that I only drank coca cola.they were braver than me.But it was a good day.

VZ oil is most likely lower than what that sweet crude is selling for. It’s most likely before $40 a barrel. So this commie thug is toast.
I expect these opposition leaders to be found guilty of corruption or whatever and replaced by people hand picked by Chavez.
We saw what happened the last time Chavez lost elections - he took everything he wanted anyway.
“Votes? Wih don’ nid no steenking votes!”
Off shore oil is the only thing keeping the socialist Republic of California going, and those nuts want to cut off their own spigots. At least Chevez and the Veni’s know they need to keep pumping. They are smarter than the average Californian.
Hanging upside down at a gas station, and it should be a Citgo.
