If he's a Marine general, that's good enough for me.

Looks sterling. What gives? Am I neurotic for thinking these recent sensible team picks are to lull us into a false sense of security? I even think he picked Hillary to fire her later, so that she is no problem for him in the Senate.

Obama’s primary international objective is to cleave Israel from the United States. Jones, along with Obama’s own Dr. Rice, is one of the most stridently anti-Israel government officials in 16 years.

Dr. Rice? Is this an oblique reference to Condi, or is there another Rice I don’t know about?

Jones is a Marine four star, former Commendant. GWB sends him to train palestinians, he trains palestinians. I don’t disagree about Condi being anti-Israel, more accurately pro-Arab like her boss, but imo Jones now gets a chance to make his opinions known.

This kind of appointment, with the news that Gates is staying on and Hillary at State is going to drive the moonbats on Kos and DU absolutely nuts.

I can't read Obama at all. I tend to think that he's doing this because, 1) he saw a scary intel report and 2) He doesn't really know anyone who can do these jobs. His crowd in Chi are hacks, radicals and dirtbags. In 77 Carter had a circle on which he could draw and Clinton had one as well, though more dirtbaggish than Carter. Obama has no one so he goes to find well known grown ups.

Steely national security choice - in time for the Georgia runoff. O’Bomber’s looking for the magic 60 and can ignore Jones or replace him as soon as he wants.

It's

2) He doesn't really know anyone who can do these jobs.

This guy is clueless, a nondescript state Senator, with no record, thus no connections, in the US Senate.

Be glad he at least has the common sense to reinstall the Clinton administration (dems, could have voted for her and gotten the real thin) than plumbed the depths of his Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, Tony Rezko et all connections.

Is he a disciple of Zinni? Also, there’s nothing saying Obama has to listen to the guy. He could be window dressing.

I don’t consider a Georgetown degree in a positive light. I do not know any graduates that are not flaming liberals. The fact that he declined an offer to serve as deputy Sec’y of State shows his bent.

I should have been clearer. I was referring to Susan Rice, not Condi.

I just looked him up and saw he suggested a NATO force for the West Bank (posted it). Don’t know if that’s a good idea.

General Jones, 64, who grew up in Paris and headed the US Marine Corps until his retirement last year, has been a critic of Mr Bush’s foreign policy and decried what he described as Donald Rumsfeld’s “systematic emasculation” of the US military’s top brass. Last year he conducted an investigation on behalf of Congress on the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan.
