Visiting Che Guevara in Central Park
The American Thinker ^ | November 23, 2008 | Jack Kemp

Posted on 11/26/2008 1:22:54 AM PST by ebiskit

I read in AT that a statue of bloodthirsty revolutionary Che Guevara has appearedChe in Central Park in Central Park, so I went to 5th Ave. & 60th street to see it for myself.

The statue is supposed to be on display until, significantly enough, May 1, 2009. It is definitely not a permanent location. This Doris Freedman Plaza is a concrete cobblestone area located just outside the southeast entrance walkway to the park. A mounted poster states the exhibit of three statues, Julius Ceasar, the "Anthropomorphic cabinet woman" (from a Dali painting) and Che Guevera were all inspired by Barcelona street performers. It also says the art display was made possible by the Public Art Fund, the City of New York, the NEA, and the New York Council for the Arts.

The base of the Che statue has some interesting things written on 3 sides. One side has a website address www.elchevive.org ("the Che lives" in Spanish) which is no longer accessible via the internet. Another side says "viva la re-revolution," i.e., long live the re (or new) revolution, in Spanish. The third side says "Seamos Realistes Exijamos Lo impossible." This translates as "We are realistic. We demand the impossible."

The Julius Caesar statue on display at Central Park's entrance has no title name or any comments on its' base, such as "Veni, Vidi, Vici." The statue of the lady also has no base capable of including writing.

Jack Kemp is not the politican of the same name.

Maybe it’s time to start sticking little white crosses in the ground all around the statue in memory of all the people Che slaughtered.
Wish I lived there I’d do it myself. On second thought, with all the people who voted for THE ONE living there...I don’t think I could stomach it long enough to get the job done.

Perhaps a Cuban in New York could take a sledge to it and claim as his defense that it’s original placement was a hate crime......

Just kiddin’.....

But that’s what the lefties would do.....

I respectfully disagree.

It would be a free speech issue as one was merely expressing an opinion about the statue.

What would there be a website on the statue that no longer even exists? The statues are bronze and that is fairly durable so they will last some time. Not that I would promote doing physical harm to a Che statue........................for shame! But, if you have a dog and are in the area, I see nothing wrong with a few, well-thrown, fresh dog turds. It will give the statue that “authentic Che” smell.

"The Julius Caesar statue on display at Central Park's entrance has no title name or any comments on its' base, such as "Veni, Vidi, Vici.""

The actual quote from Caesar is: "Veni, Vidi, Vicki."

A well-placed Obama campaign button would achieve the same effect.

Isn’t it disgusting that he passed that law and conveniently made it for only sitting office holders? No matter what you think of Rudy that was clearly the reason.

Interesting argument. In any event it wouldn't be a horrible thing if the statue was destroyed of defaced on Thanksgiving Day as a was expressing gratitude for our freedoms and contempt for those like Che who seek to deny it.

Everything about Bloomberg is disgusting.

He’s been heaping so much praise on Obama I am beginning to think he’s wanting a position as an adviser or something to get himself out of NYC.

Hard to believe that our large Cuban American community (Clemenza is our ethnic expert: aren’t they mainly in Union, NJ?) would allow this piece of sh*t to stand.
